McAteer barely got a sniff at Forest Green Rovers in League Two. 6 months later he was starting in the Championship for us. We can debate individual cases but the culture at this club does not currently promote the confidence and belief of blooding academy players.

The Premier League is just a whole different level to the Championship though. No matter what people currently think, we would probably be top of the Championship now if we was in it.
I wouldn’t at all be against trying Alves in the Championship. He’s done nothing to suggest he is ready for a Premier League start though and also can’t be tearing it up in training.

The simple difference is we are up against world class defenders and Cardiff aren’t.

😂I wouldn’t call the Everton defence world class for a start. Plenty of average players in the PL, we’ve got a squad full of them!

You’ve given a bad example there. One of the best defences in the league. Most clubs in Europe would like to sign Branthwaite.

Branthwaite is not world class mate😂. He might develop to be towards that level in the future but at the moment he definitely isn’t. Nor is Tarkowski, nor is Mykolenko nor is a giant centre half in O’Brien playing as a makeshift right back (who btw pocketed BDCR.) There’s plenty of average defenders in the PL.

The level of quality overall is far higher than the Championship. There isn’t a single world class defender in the Championship. The two leagues aren’t comparable, which is why we’d be top of one and nearly bottom of the other.

I’d say in 9 cases out of 10 it’s as simple as that for Braybrooke. You don’t perform well enough for Dundee, in most cases that wouldn’t mean you are ready to start in the Premier League.

Those players that might not do it in training have probably proven themselves either at that club or at their previous clubs.
Alves hasn’t proved anything.

Perhaps living away from home was affecting his performance? Maybe Dundee just wanted additional bodies without signing someone on a permanent?

Whether he’s good enough or not give me Alves over Reid or Ayew. Even Jake Evans. I just want to see something different. I’m desperate. Our squad is so stale. Some pace and flair would be nice.

Are we sure this is still happening? No announcement despite both managers discussing it.

Wonder if our final throw at the dice at a left sider has failed and we're going to screw Will over again?

I hope it absolutely nails this opportunity.

It's pretty much now or never for him. He's going to have to learn how to mix it very uickly.

You can't just play when you have the Ball.

Why would anyone want this over a short video of him pulling at his top like he's having hot flashes in a weirdly lit room?

I’m not saying the leagues are comparable, I’m saying that there are plenty of defenders in the premier league that wouldn’t look out of place in The Championship - all of ours for a start and plenty of other teams have players in their teams who might find the championship not quite the walk in the park you make it out to be. If Alves had a game in the premier league he wouldn’t be up against a world class defender week in week out, sometimes he’d be up against a defender who just happen to be fortunate to be playing at the highest level because of luck or promotion.

I don’t think it’s that cut or dry. Cardiff are in a mess, playing badly, getting spanked and in a relegation fight. It’s not going to be easy for him to turn that around. That’s exactly what Cardiff fans will be expecting of him. We would’ve been better loaning them BDCR and giving Alves minutes here without the pressure of expectation he’ll have at Cardiff.

The problem with your last statement is he's not good enough yet to play her. We have to take that as a given as he hasn't done enough to impress 4 Managers.

Though he does  have to step up somewhere as time is ticking by for him and his career.

Playing well in a poor championship team might give him the confidence to express himself , As it's all about confidence for young players while finding their feet in the game.

Can’t believe how many Lcfc fans are applauding a move that further weakens our squad. If Cardiff think he’s good enough to be a major player in staving off relegation  there then at the very least he could play a key role here even if it was as a sub with 30 mins to go. We are absolutely awful and yet we have used the January transfer to weaken our squad. Cannon, Hamza and now Alves, all better than some of the wasters we have here who have already demonstrated that they are NOT going to keep us up either with ability or even effort/fight.

He would’ve increasingly become an option as RVN realises that Ayew and BDCR aren’t the answer. On top of that, he clearly isn’t going to get the Fatawu replacement that he was expecting in the transfer window. With one player in and 3 members out we are clearly weaker than before the window.

I don’t think this bit is that fair on him

Rodgers really liked him and gave him his debut at 16 but he got that horrific injury

Enzo also really liked him but he was out injured for most of his time here

Cooper had basically no interest in using youth during his time here and so far it has looked the same under RVN (although maybe more understandable as he is under a lot more pressure and not willing to take risks)

Fair points. As you say I doubt Ruud can take that chance especially when he's trying to instill decipline into Bilal and Facundo's game, even Soumare at times.

Still a little less pressure on the lad might help him. Let's just hope he makes it but it's a big step up.

I think that’s two managers now who have hardly picked Alves. I’d agree him going makes us weaker if he had played more..
