Came on after 70 minutes and has done well so far helping them get forward

Unless they score a late goal though it looks like Cardiff will be relegated today

Great loan experience for Alves, rather than not being trusted to start and relegated from the premier league with Leicester, he’s instead been not been trusted to start and relegated from The Championship with Cardiff. An absolute dream loan move that will have worked wonders for the lad’s confidence. 🤪

It's odd isn't it.

Some just love to be miserable.

It's been a good loan, decent minutes, he'd got his first senior goals and assists.

He would have learned a lot.

Yep, same slightly applies to Braybrooke whom at the very least got a taste of a really competitive environment. We were right to call him back but anything is valuable compared how we’ve been treating some of our prospects

I think the problem is fans expectations with how good a player is going to be.

Alves seems to have okay reviews in a team which failed to stay up this season in the championship. Bear in mind how we’ve played these lower half championship teams and seen the quality, that’s the benchmark.

we’ve produced some fantastic youth players who have gone on to be England internationals - Barnes, Chilwell, etc.

but for everyone one of those, there are McAteers, Luke Thomases,  etc. who fans deem not good enough.

Generally people on this board expect way too much of youth players.

My point is, let’s not put too much pressure. There’s promise but the expectations need to be realistic. We’ve seen he doesn’t regularly start for Cardiff. Yes it would be amazing if he realises what we all hope and have seen him produce in glimpses, but let’s not put the weight of an entire city on someone where there just isn’t evidence that he’s there yet.

19 year olds first ever loan after having his knee snapped in half. He’s done fine and it will have done him the world of good.

Why are our fans so desperate for him to fail?

I’m the exact opposite of wanting him to fail. Look throughout this thread and I’ve been praising him. My point, which you have completely missed, is loaning him out to a club like Cardiff, struggling in The Championship is no better and probably worse for his development than keeping him here. I would’ve given Alves game time at Leicester.

It was a poor loan. He should’ve got game time here. 19 year old Will Alves is twice the player than 32 year old version of BDCR.

Fair enough apologies then. I do disagree with your point though about it being worse for his development. He had barely played any football for ages. I think at this point he needed to just go out and play wherever. He looked notably fitter as his loan went on

My point is he could’ve done that here. He’s better than BDCR irrespective of his inexperience. When you look at the minutes Reid has had here recently and throughout RVN’s time, that could’ve been Alves.

You do realise that Alves is 19 right?

Barnes and Chilwell at the same age were at loan at MK Dons and Huddersfield.

Sorry that we get excited about Alves in the squad on a match day ahead of dross like Reid or Ayew.

Based on what metrics?

He scored and got some assists at Cardiff in he's first step in senior football, would he have done that here?

Those goals and assists will have given him confidence that he can play senior football!

One of those out on loan in the championship along with Ben Nelson hopefully will be OK for us next season will most likely be on a manageable wage unlike Hamza Choudhury

I could throw it back at you and say, in light of his lack of game time at Cardiff compared to the game time a failing Reid playing in his position got here at Leicester, AND the fact Cardiff were relegated, based on what metrics was the loan a success?

If he’d been given game time here he could’ve. My point has been throughout this thread that Alves should’ve been given way more opportunities here this season. It’s another failing of our club that whilst we are stinking the league up, and rinse and repeating non performances from Reid we have to send a creative player out to the disaster that is Cardiff City to get some experience. And what has he got from it? Dropped from the starting 11 and a relegation to League 1 on his record.

Can he be recalled after Cardiff's last game next week? Would be nice to see him get a few minutes for us before it's all done and dusted.

Then again, RVN is clearly not interested in blooding the youth so I doubt it would be worth it.

He played his first senior minutes in football at higher level than Barnes (L1), KDH (L1).

He managed a similar amount of minutes in his (639) Championship loan the Chilwell (660) did in his first and only loan which was at Championship level with a game to go.

He's scored and managed 3 assists, which will give him confidence.

He's been push out of he comfort zone, have to go to another club, dress room, which will have challenged him.

He's got nearly as many minutes at Cardiff (639) in half a season  as BCDR has in a whole season at LCFC (741).

He's played at the level we are competing at next season so will understand the league.

For me it's been a good loan.
