Worcester 0 - 1 Quorn

I wasn’t present in person but from numerous conversations with fans & a player, the first half belonged to Quorn with the woodwork saving Worcester three times. The evergreen Billy Kee involved in a couple.
Inevitably, Worcester regrouped after the interval and made life difficult Tom Allsopp making the transition to Step 3 well producing some good saves to keep Quorn in it.

Game was settled at the death with debutant Sub, and Leicester born, Flynn o’Boyle capitalising on a mix-up between Defender and Goalkeeper to grab the winner. The former Wigan u21 instantly the hero.

Onto Tuesday’s first home step 3 against Stourbridge.

North Warwickshire derby tomorrow, Atherstone Town vs the Boro. First time since we reformed a match will be segregated, maybe a little tense atmosphere. Not played them in a local competitive league derby since 2009. Should be decent crowd with around maybe 300-400 from Nuneaton expected. Possible 800-1,000 been years since Atherstone attracted that many.

Be a big police presence won’t there? I remember Atherstone fans chasing Barwell players off the pitch a few years back in an Fa cup game.

A very mixed start for Hinckley in the most non-league of ways, first game being a 6-0 away loss at Daventry on 26 July. 11 players out, the ones there not really turning up and Daventry wanting to make an impact first game, a very poor result to start the season.

Made significant improvements on the following Wednesday at Cov United away, 1-0 up in the first 10 minutes, managed the game well until our main CB came off with a groin pull, and 87th minute a Cov free kick found a free man for the equaliser, Hinckley quickly came close to regaining a league before a (pretty pointless) 40 yard shot hit our own man, bounced back to the half way line to their main striker, who’s eventual shot deflected off the defender; past the keeper and in to make it 2-1 lol quality, budget disparity and a hint of misfortune proving the decider but to go to a team operating well above yourself budget-wise its a gut-punch but a brave performance after such a hammering first day.

Next up was the FA Cup Extra-Preliminary game against once-contenders-now-strugglers Highgate United of the MFL Prem, competitors of Hinckley in the early MFL Div 1 days and subsequently perennial step 5 promotion contenders, the money was withdrawn and they stayed up last year on the basis on reprieves. This was a pretty straightforward first win of the season for Hinckley, perhaps making it harder for themselves than it should have been with a makeshift defence, and ran out 4-2 winners with advancement to the Preliminary Round.

This weekend (my first miss dye to such inconveniences as my partner’s birthday) Hinckley kept up the momentum and secured their first win away at Newport Pagnell. The 2021/22 FA Vase Winners & 2022/23 FA Vase Runners Up seemed out of character so far this season, since giving Nuneaton a tough game at home in a 1-0 loss they’ve since failed to find a victory in any competition, with another home loss, 3-1 against Chenecks, and a 5-1 thumping from Biggleswade, they were handled pretty tamely, a first minute opening goal that was reportedly ‘strangely’ disallowed made up for by an excellent Bryan Kohyrelon goal, and on the stroke of half time a penalty decision resulted in a red card for Pagnell and Hinckley doubling their lead through Chandler Pegg’s conversion. A managed second half, including a second booking and therefore second sending off for Pagnell, saw the game settled at 2-0, getting Hinckley off the mark in the United Counties League Premier South and marking a rapid recovery from the ills of that first day drubbing.

Next up is a challenging home game against Aylestone Park, inevitably favourites for the league and sitting on seven from an available nine points, it’ll no doubt be a tough game for Hinckley but over the last two seasons they’ve proved a handful at times for the more moneyed teams and will be looking to better their tight 1-0 loss in this fixture last year. Following that, Saturday sees Hinckley take on NPL Midland’s Long Eaton United in a home tie of the FA Cup Preliminary Round, no doubt a big test on Hinckley’s cup ambitions this season!

Hinckley should’ve had all three points tonight. Bryan Kohyrelon was immense up front. Good crowd of 340 for a Monday night.

Not forgetting Atherstone v Barrow in the Fa Cup, the so called atherstone fans ran on the pitching trying to beat up Barrow players while they were warming up at half time also stealing the Barrow flag and setting it alight. Few seasons ago the atherstone manager resigned after hearing racist comments made by home supporters. It's very wild around there, its a shame as I know a fair for regulars who are okay just a few ruin it.

We’ll certainly take the point though! lol Thought it was a great advert for the level tonight, plenty of sting in the game, AP are always a good side and we stood up and battled against them well,  in front of a good crowd with a decent atmosphere which was a massive bonus.

Very affirming of my involvement tonight, we’re heading in the right direction on and off the pitch, the final piece is a ground of our own…

What's going on with the Harborough fixture tomorrow (today)? Everywhere listing it as an away fixture but looks to be taking place in Harborough?

Presume Spalding having some work done at their ground?

Spalding installing a 4G pitch but the work has been delayed, so they have switched a couple of fixtures

Should be a good game down there. Our former player Liam Moore is there captain.

Just come back from watch Atherstone Town v Boro, massive 2-1 to make it 4 wins out of 4. Not a vintage performance from Boro but it's showcases what a team we have that come from behind despite playing poorly and still win. Attendance was 1,050 with 540 travelling down the road from Nuneaton, incredible for step five and nice little earner for Atherstone. Atmosphere was terrific from the Boro fans but disappointing from the Adders... not one song from them even when they leading, quite quiet for most. For their biggest crowd for nearly a decade, it was a bit poor from the home support. No sign of any trouble during the match, but sadly it appeared to kick off after the game, a few local Atherstone yobs decided linger around the away end turnstiles after the game around lobbing abuse and apparently waving for a fight and some reports of an elderly boro fan being attacked, but yet to be confirmed. From what I seen most the idiots involved looked kids of just 15 and 16 year olds, who probably didn't even realise Atherstone Town excited until this fixture was announced.

Nice little traditional non league ground Sheppy Road, if want to see a proper old school non league ground with character then Atherstone Town one to visit.

EDIT: Since further reports of lad getting glassed as well, just crazy. Sad for Atherstone Town as we know these involved are not the regular supporters.

You’ve missed the bit about the Nuneaton number 3 that went in 2 footed and studs up  and walked away with a yellow. And the soft penalty that turned the game. All the best for the rest of the season though, I find it a little amusing that Nuneaton play in Bedworth, and Coventry play in Exhall.

Non-league mate. Where men are men, proper football, no VAR, no tippy tappy sh1te, no passing of the ball, can drink a beer in the ground. Ref must've been a real woke to give a yellow for what sounds like a proper challenge

Good start to the season for Jersey Bulls. Through to the next qualifying round of the FA cup, and started the league season with a solid away point at Margate on Saturday. They had to get an emergency keeper with a few hours notice to travel from London, as the no.1 was ill. He met the team for the first time 20 mins before KO! Great effort to only concede one under the circumstances

Thats how football works at times, no var at this level to back it up.

Attendance going up to 1290, absolutely fantastic turn out at step five. 660 from Nuneaton.

St Andrews 2-1 up against North Kilworth 3 minutes to go and all of a sudden the floodlights fail, not for the first time this has happened.

They’ve now turned the comments off on X and no sign of whether the game restarted or not.

Quorn 1 - 1 Stourbridge

A good match befitting of the occasion that being Quorn’s first Home game of Step 3.

Stourbridge came out the blocks first ten but Quorn grew into the game more as the half went on. Save of the night from Stourbridge Keeper Amos from Beswick before pre-season enigma Digie slides home Quorn’s opener.

2nd half Stourbridge come out again and the game gets a little feisty Asst Gaffer Wilkesy seeing a soft Red for not a lot. Stourbridge direct approach and fitness pays off with a couple left with an equaliser very harsh on Quorn who will rue missed opportunities to have gotten a second. However a point against consistently Top Ten opposition is a great return.

More importantly, although the adrenaline of early season will be flowing, Quorn shown they can compete at this level

Questioning if to do Lutterworth Town on Saturday - hosting Chasetown. A poor place to watch footy but I honestly think they might win UCL North and they will give Chasetown a right game.

I agree actually, inherited a close knit LR group that’s likely too good for step 5. Will go under the radar and won’t be the scalp that AP, Cov United, Nuneaton or Atherstone are so might go under the radar. Should be a great game for the neutral on paper.

Hoping Hinckley give it a good go against Long Eaton on Saturday, expect a rollicking but you never know in the Cup and with home advantage we can only go out there and give it our best, hopefully carry some momentum on from Monday and see another decent crowd!

Fa Cup Preliminary Round results (Leics only)

Lutterworth Town 0 Chasetown 1

Hinckley AFC 0 Long Eaton United 3

Sherwood Colliery 3 Anstey Nomads 1

Shepshed Dynamo 2 Clay Cross Town 0

I went Lutterworth. Battled away, two big changes in the first half they failed to take and even one of Chasetown’a quality frontline bagged. Really good competitive game though on a difficult pitch

Seen a few games so far and a couple of observations- far less possession across the back and laboured play, and the eight second rule is being enforced and making games better.
