Very philosophical this debate. I think this is a Hobbesian (not Jack) perspective. My old philosophy lecturer would be very impressed and he used to keep a live tortoise on his desk in honour of Aesop's fables.

Rousseau was right.

Hobbes' viewpoint on this matter will lead to only one logical outcome.

Much as they do with any socialist government around the world, I suspect he'll feel the full force of the American machine in an attempt to destroy him and his kind of politics.

No doubt. But he has enough behind him in the position he has to at least apply some resistance. And he looks up for the fight.

You're clearly a psychiatrist and have sussed out my blind hatred for the bitch is that I've been shunned by the cow

It's the stories and bitterness of the woman I hate. Posters of Gordon Brown on her wall, lying on her CV, dodgy as **** transactions etc etc and her sheer ****ing incompetence.

An absolute complete and utter wanna be and about 5 / 6 levels above where she should be.

If she was middle management you'd be thinking O **** she's ****ing useless

Fair enough and the elaboration is appreciated, mon ami.

Not sure why it’s the U.K.’s responsibility to i.e. improve the Albanian economy to stop economic migrants coming from there via small boats. It’s up to each country to sort out their own economies and I don’t believe it’s the jurisdiction of a sovereign nation to fund the economies of other sovereign nations.

As I said to leicsmac, though, I suspect this isn’t something we’ll agree on! Maybe there could be a voluntary tax scheme where people of the mindset that you and leicsmac have could pay additional tax that can go to other countries to improve their economies.

Have you never heard of charities.

And he managed it in five minutes.  We need to wait until the end of her tenure bwfore we can truely assess where she stands in that league table.  Especially given non of the last half a dozen have improved the lifes of the average citizen.

In all seriousness though, it will be the world markets that will be the most accurate arbiter of anything Reeves does Budget-wise, so I guess we'll see what they say and do.

The bond market responded well initially to her speech, which is what she's after. There's going to be no tax giveaway as some chancellors have had the luxury of indulging in the past, so somebody will be upset whatever the outcome.

In hindsight, they should have just said last year that finances are much worse than we thought, we are going to reverse the NI cut bribe put in place for the election.

any murmurings wether she will increase 20% threshold, 40% or 45%? i.e. expand the bands

More likely they will be frozen for longer creating more fiscal drag.

You're easily blinded by your chosen media aren't you?

You hate her because she had posters of Gordon Brown?

Her first budget was pretty good. There's room for argument about the effect of NI changes, that I'll grant you, but it's hard to ascribe a single cause to continuing economic stagnation.

The farmer issue was a non issue blown up by wealthy landowners that aren't farmers.

She laid the ground to pump £100bn into capital projects which was much needed and should provide an economic boost in time.

Not a chance - they will be frozen and probably increased % wise.

3p per mile EV rate being floated.  There's another £450 sucked out of me per year.  Not like the government have been encouraging transition to EVs at all.

Well the idea she's done nothing but bad is clearly nonsense isn't it? A little bit of balance wouldn't go amiss.

Notice how I'm prepared to accept there's an argument to be had regarding the NI increase on employers. Those of you that like to use laughing emoji and flippant comments very rarely seem to invoke any sense of complexity, nuance or balance. You carry on.

According to The Telegraph and being repeated by other outlets AGAIN.

They keep coming out with this stuff and I suppose some of it might come to pass sooner or later

I get the point that as more cars move to EV fuel duty revenues drop, but when they're issuing fines to manufacturing for not shifting volume of EVs, being big supports of green initatives and offering frankly outrageous discounts through salary sacrifice schemes, it's just a mess.

One of the more right wing posters linked to the treasury saying working people were people earning up to something like £48k, so just under higher tax rate. Presumably getting at the fact that might allow the government to raise the higher rate and claim they haven't touched working people. Tbh there's so much nonsense being put out about the coming budget it's very hard to predict. I'm expecting some surprises on the positive side as well as potential tax rises as they will be keeping it all very heavily under wraps.

Rags like the telegraph really need calling out for attempting to scare everybody about what's coming leading to people cashing in pensions early, making investment decisions they otherwise wouldn't etc, all based on nonsense.
