As much as people may hate to admit it, we have a lot of players that have been poor in the PL but will be a class above the majority of players in the championship

If we had a spine of

Coady/Faes/Vestergaard

Soumare/Ndidi/Winks

BEK/Ayew

Along with our impressive academy players we would absolutely pi55 it - even with a points deduction

Hang on, are we talking about the same Skipp that was in the championship team of the season?  And you’d play the ball boy ahead of him?

Pretty much everyone was diabolical last season…. Skipp as not as awful as many would have you believe

Stop drinking the Foxestalk coolade my man…

5 years ago? I think it’s clear to anyone who saw him play for us last season he’s not the same player he was that one season, whether it’s down to injuries or confidence I don’t know.

But saying everyone was diabolical isn’t a valid defence of him it’s a cop out. What does he actually offer based off of what you saw last season? Even Soumare for all his faults can show moments of courage, take the ball from the defence and drive the team forward. Skipp seems to hide when he’s on the pitch and hasn’t shown he can affect games, with or without the ball.

And as for Page I’m not sure how you can’t see the potential he has. Granted he’s still so young and it is only pre season, but his performances in these games have been impressive for someone having their first taste of games in the first team. He and the other youngsters coming through have done enough so far to be taken seriously and not just be labelled “ball boys”.

We actually have no good 11 to field at the present due to lack of forwards. Ayew is the only really choice or young Evan’s. Until we sign someone all endeavours will be for nothing. Both Mavadidi and `Fatawu will have to learn they cannot go missing for long  periods in games. I do not believe that either will deliver more than 10 goals a season.. if Cifuentes wants a press the whole squad needs to be fitter than last season. Hard press means not using Soumare. We also desperately need so height our squad puts us firmly in the ‘vertical’ challenged category.

LOL  combined their total goal contribution was 39 and that’s ignoring any penalty’s they won.  That’s almost a goal a game. People forget that our forwards weren’t performing at a particularly high standard then either.

I forget how badly one bad season warps people’s minds

It's copium.

He got injured and didn't recover very well last year so everyone's convincing themselves Stolarczyk is better in advance so that we're less depressed when he leaves for way less than he's worth.

People don't believe Jakub is better :D, it's almost a certainty he'll leave. We need funds for the gaffa to bring in who he wants!

This seems like a symptom of the long-standing Foxestalk logic virus that whoever is sitting in the reserves is the best player in that position.

Time will tell…. I hope and think that he may come good in an organised team that’s well managed…. He did, if memory serves me well, have a couple of encouraging cameos towards the end of the season, but he didn’t really get a run in the side…

I suspect we both hope I’m right on this point!

I honestly know nothing about Page as I’ve missed most of the friendlies as I’ve been on holidays…. Sounds promising though!  (I wasn’t necessarily referring to him as the ball boy by the way, I was just making a point!)

Sorry if I came across a bit ‘pointy finger’, but  Ayew gets the dogs abuse too and didn’t deserve it from what I saw of him…. It just appears that FT has a number of hate figures and the general ‘thinking’ leads to daft posting…

BEK is pin up as he’s easy on the eye, but there is a reason why he won’t go for big money as his underlying stats are pretty poor

BEK is simply not an attacking midfielder. Stick him in a deeper role as as the point of contact to progress the ball up the pitch and he will be elite.

Compare him to someone like Winks, he is taller, more physical, better passer, better workrate, more press resistant, better ball carrier, better dribbler. We should be playing him in the same role that Winks plays, not as our furthest forward midfielder where he is isolated a lot of the time.

Interesting…. I can see what you’re saying

I thought he was brought as CAM / 10?

Has he ever played that role?  Would be interesting to see how Marti uses him…

He plays deeper for Morroco. I have a feeling he is going to be misused here until he leaves then another manager 'discovers' his best position.

He may never be a goals and assists machine but his quality on the ball is undeniable, we dont get him the ball often enough. Based on him playing high up the pitch in our last friendly I fear we have another manager who doesnt understand how to use him, hopefully if Cifuentes has anything about him he sees the light.

Cifuentes strikes me as a sharp guy…. Let’s see what he sees….

I wasn’t aware that he played deeper for Morocco…

I go to the ground to watch exciting talent…. And although the outcomes were a bit ‘meh’, he did at least get me out of my seat on more than one occasion….

I shall watch with interest

Mads

Ricardo/faes (yes I know but at this level he's a cut above), Nelson, Justin

Fatawu, Winks, Ndidi, BEK, Mavididi (Monga off bench to start with)

Ayew

Ayew to hold the ball up and bring others into play. If we need someone to run in behind stick Mavididi up top and put Monga on the left.

I find it utterly mad it’s 2025 and we’re still seeing Ndidi in predicted line ups

He's the first one I'd pick as well. Says a lot about the others.

Never really thought of it like this but you might be onto something. He doesn't score enough that's for sure.

I feel a bit sick having Faes in my starting 11 at any level but I have to agree with this.

An athletic, hold up man though would see us having a good season to a very good one though, captain obvious comment, I know.

Of course - it would be great for Skipp to end up being a success here and this season is probably his best chance. Maybe a place in a working system and lower quality opposition is what he needs to bring back his confidence and kick start his career here. But to do that I think he will have to prove himself to start over Winks as I don’t like the idea of them playing together.

And you’re right RE Ayew - he gets a lot of stick because he symbolises the clubs decline in recruitment and long term vision. But he’s far from being the biggest problem in the squad and I don’t think playing out wide suits him at this stage of his career. I think  he could be a valuable member of the squad if used as a 9 or 10 this season.

Yes, as it stands, I would choose those 11 players, but in a 4-4-2 with Bilal in a free role off Ayew

it’s either Winks or Skipp…. I think you’re right…. Winks was amazing last time out in the championship….  But I just have a sneaking suspicion (maybe more in hope than expectation) that Skipp could come good….

Winks was a different player without Enzo…. It can make all the difference - confidence/ how you’re deployed

I can easily see Ayew starting at 9 and having a reasonable season…. With a combo of BEK, Monga, Fatawu and Mavididi in and around him, we  could be pretty tasty going forward…

For me the starting 11 have to come from this 13 (as we stand):

                              Hermansen.

    Ricardo        Nelson         Okoli.     Justin.

        Winks./Skipp    Ndidi.   El Khannouss.

        Fatawu.        Ayew./Daka.      Monga

Mavadidi and Ricardo are injured Cifuentes didn’t say why other than they will need to see the medical team, there was another player as well  but I didn’t catch the name
