It was judging the teams, pitch and conditions before one side had batted on it, much less two.

So yes, it was, and is.

This team's results (with the exception of India away) really have done enough in the face of difficult conditions to deserve more faith from folks.

Ooop, there goes another. :D

Our batting was poor though. Our bowling attack is way better than theirs and that is why they are 4 down.

Just because we've bowled well doesn't mean some of the wickets we gave away were good, does it, if you think it's reactionary to be critical of some of the shots, e.g., Crawley, then, fair play

Agreed, which means England can still get a result rather than this being a foregone conclusion. As some people appeared to think.

A great deal of the commentary here went a fair bit beyond mere criticism of some of the shots. Which I'll happily admit were rubbish, I'm just not buying into the the fatalistic "we're doomed" bollocks just yet.

Absolutely - it just should have been a bit more comfortable!

Oh yeah the we're going to get slapped based on one innings is perhaps a bit over the top

Bloody hell, this is hostile stuff.

Our bowling attack is outstandingly hostile - it almost 70s windies level  The aussies do not like it up 'em.

They've all brought their best, that's for sure.

Need to break this partnership before the close, though.

Ok, the lower order could have at least tried to stick it out a bit but top order got some good balls or were a bit unlucky. On another day Pope gets the not out and survives, and ironically Brook gets out by trying not to play the short ball.

Crawley has the great quality of finding the edge, Smith played the exact same shot a number of times and missed it every time.

I'd made peace that it was pointless whinging about Crawley because he's playing regardless, but today just really reminded me of how shit I think he is, and how much I hated his initial selection years ago
