Are we competing?

The point was we’d spent in the same ball park as the relegated sides.

Not sure if this includes fees paid for loan players but I’d assume that if we’re in for the same players as the likes of Southampton and Ipswich and they’re willing to pay those sorts of fees, then our only option is to pay them or shop elsewhere.

Im not justifying it.

Circa 6m on agents fees and a few million on legal fees you'd expect?

We'll spend money on everything but transfers. Even when "we were going for it" we never spent much on transfers as the wage bill cannibalised transfer funds and we had to replace players leaving on frees so often.

Agent fees are more than just signing players.  , managerial changes, contract renewals, even a  loan signing is going to cost an agent fee.. we probably used some sort of recruitment agency to  restructure and appoint  our new ‘ upstairs’ people..  that will all be classed as agent fees..also if you indicate you want to sell a player you can contract an agent to find them a club.

You are right and well…. Wrong.

Not all but the vast bulk of players , even academy youngsters, have an agent and the sums that agents charge is astronomical. Historically agents acted both for the player and the club. When  the club agrees to pay the players agent fees it appears in payroll as a benefit in kind .

The restructure of “ upstairs “ is highly unlikely to appear in the agents fees . The fees only represent sums paid to players, coaches or clubs where a sum has been paid to registered agent.

Would free signings and loans still require agents to be paid? I'd have thought so.

Yes . The free signings are never that. From agent fees to re location fees . From a signing on fee to a loyalty bonus.

according to the document released on the FA website, the  list of agent’s fees does indeed include the fees paid to staff member agents not just player’s agents. I’m sure we paid someone to get the Red Bull/ Man city guy, for example… plus of course the managers..

fascinated to learn we've got a guy called Bismark in the academy. Presumably our next big sale to Ipswich.

6m on that when the majority coming in are scholarships/academy grads, and the senior transfers are a kid with digestives for hamstrings, Bare Goals, Temu Soumare, JJ and Mukasa on loan, as well as goalkeeper born before the fall of Rome, a centre back who also has digestive hamstrings and a money laundering scheme from Betis... That's promotion worthy strategic squad building.
