Not saying we're guaranteed to be in a promotion battle next season, but I'd say it's actually better they're not heavily punished and coming down with us as a competitor.

Yeah even if the did get 6-8 points deduction no way were we going to benefit and survive

There's no point. And I'm a bit cynical about it really.  Why has it taken until this point in the season to apply it?  Not having a pop at WBA, we're shit and deserve to go down, but what's the point in applying a points deduction when it ultimately has no consequences?  2 of 3 teams are already relegated and the other needs to win both games with WBA getting nothing, so while there's a chance, it's incredibly minimal.  It seems very unsporting to apply deductions to one team where it has an effect on their season (although ultimately it's meant fxxk all, but nobody knew that at the time it was applied) and then apply a points deduction to another when it'll have no effect.  We could have had a 6 point deduction once we'd sealed automatic promotion 2 seasons ago and we wouldn't have had all the shit since.

could argue that that's a result of us spending ages fighting on technicalities tbf

I mean if we had 6 points docked once we'd already won the league so we'd end up on 91 and effectively not mattered, so the subsequent stuff doesn't happen.

As you say though, fighting it on technicalities has ultimately been far worse than the deduction itself.  Whilst we have the benefit of hindsight, if we'd have taken it in the Premier League we'd have fared no different, we'd go down either way.  Same as this season.  But what's happened in the interim of getting promoted and Maresca departing is an air of uncertainty with spurious claims we'd be getting a record deduction, or multiple deductions etc meaning that no manager worth his salt would touch us with a barge pole.  For any promising or established manager, there was no upside to coming to us.  A relegation was always probable.  So we ended up with managers where they were in such low standing that it wouldn't really make a difference to their future prospects whether they were successes or not.  Essentially it was too much of a gamble for any decent manager and a free throw of the dice for the proven failures.  And that's snowballed ever since.

Just enough to make sure there is no relegation threat

Right from the start before west brom went on their run it was common knowledge it would be max 3 points deduction.

Weird, should’ve been at least 3.

3 but 1 less because they have shown that they are reducing their losses. It was under 2m and if what they are claiming about their charity contributions counting towards their loss is true then if anything the EFL have been harsh. The timing reeks but let's be honest we deserve to go down and they don't. Let's just hope this shocks the board into action which us hanging on by our fingernails on a technicality might not have.
