Pace and Power

Lots of discussion around some players we need to go that have not yet although the club has started to freshen it up but my biggest concern is we do not lack technical footballers (short at centre back - neither Okoli or Souttar are ball players) and all the signings made lack power and pace - two ingredients we desperately lack and cannot see us being successful without these two qualities….any thoughts ?

Been a chronic issue for years. I don't think our business has done much to fix it either.

Squad issues wont be fixed under the current ownership.  At the moment its just hoping for the best, and I would like us to start the season with no more signings.  Minimise the spending.

I always thought Burns was on the shorter side, but the difference in stature when he came on compared to most of the attack was noticeable.

We need a bigger, more physical central midfielder, able to win tackles and headers and then play it simply (a cheap version of Sander Berge). Of the players we have now, I would honestly try Faes there (if he stays).

The incoming CF should add some physicality. Even Okoli, despite his size, is not dominant in the air.

We MAY dominate possession but there will be many times in games when we need a physical presence through the spine of the team (CB,CM,CF).

I've suggested we play Faes in midfield before, I think that could be his best position. He's good with the Ball at his feet can see a pass and can challenge for the ball in the air.

I can't see how it would weaken the team playing the Skip role for a few games to see how he gets on.

The only other pace we have is Okoli as you said and Aluko and Coulibally who Russell doesn't seem to think are ready. But I feel we need their Pace and Power in the team as we move too slowly going foward. Allowing the opposition to get set up defensively. But it's early days yet, Things can change quickly.

Aluko certainly has pace and power, barging past people like they don't exist. He was good in preseason and again in his short cameo yesterday. To a lesser extent you could probably include Woyo and Page. I think the one guy that will give us a new dimension is McFarlane, 6ft+ and by all accounts rapid.

We’ve had one good DM since 2017, we’ve always been shit without Ndidi. We need a player that can win the ball back and adds some steel to our midfield as Skipp isn’t it, Choudhury is the closest thing but he’s a limited footballer.
