Libertine Posted 31 December 2005 Posted 31 December 2005 Levein: 'It's Groundhog Day' Craig Levein was again left frustrated after watching his Foxes go down 1-0 at the hands of Norwich at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday. Again Leicester had more than their fair share of chances and possession, but they would fail to capitalise. The only goal of the game came in the 71st minute - Paul McVeigh wrapping up the points for the visitors. Levein said: "We have been here before. It's Groundhog Day. I felt that we played very well, as we have been doing previously, but we didn't take or chances. "We can't afford to miss as many chances as we did. We should have had the game tied up. "There were three occasions today when the ball has flashed across the face of goal. A striker should be scoring there - but they didn't. I thought our strikers played well, but when the ball flashes across the goal inside the six yard box you should be scoring. That's why I am looking to bring someone in in that position. "The game should have been beyond Norwich's reach in the first half. Until they went in front they hadn't really had a chance. "It's tightening up at the bottom and that is something that we are obviously aware of. If you look at the effort and the workrate that the players have put in then you will see that they had a real go. You would expect that at home. They went right to the end. "I think the supporters were appreciative of how well we have played today. My job now is to bring someone into the club when the transfer window opens to try and help us turn the corner. "There is a long way to go and we will be judged on results. I still believe we have got the right players, although I do think we need another striker. "We outpassed, outplayed and outshot our opponents again today. I believe that the missing ingredient is someone who can put the ball in the net. "I haven't even thought about walking away from my position here and I never would. This is a job that is going to take two or three seasons and I would never walk away from it."
Sparky Posted 31 December 2005 Posted 31 December 2005 ffs , what a willy puller this guy is ? its groundhog day ! what a nine carrot twat . GET OUT OF OUR CLUB!!!

This is a job that is going to take two or three seasons and I would never walk away from it." Right well he is not going to resign, we can't afford to sack him, so looks like the only way we can stay up is if we support him. I still want him out, but I realistically know its not going to happen so am going to support him.
Cal Posted 31 December 2005 Posted 31 December 2005 He seems to think he'll be here for two more seasons..
Muz Posted 31 December 2005 Posted 31 December 2005 He's a stubborn bloke. And is driving the fans away. He has too go , but the only way we're gonna get rid is if , he moves to another club , very unlikely , or we're gonna have to sack him. I for one will continue to call for his head' unless things turn dramatically and we turn the season around.
Bert Posted 31 December 2005 Posted 31 December 2005 It should be "levein it Giro Day" Well the board seem to have told him that they want him to stay and he seems pretty certain he'll still be here so we may have to put up with it
City_4_Life Posted 31 December 2005 Posted 31 December 2005 Right well he is not going to resign, we can't afford to sack him, so looks like the only way we can stay up is if we support him. I still want him out, but I realistically know its not going to happen so am going to support him. Like i said earlier i dont think he will walk out on us and he will stick through it which i think is good on him. I will also keep supporting him until he has been sacked or he has left.

City_4_Life Posted 31 December 2005 Posted 31 December 2005 You should support the club after he leaves to That came out wrong, of course i will support the club after he leaves
Chimp Posted 31 December 2005 Posted 31 December 2005 That's a pretty honest and factual analysis of the match from CL there, it's certainly true that we had enough chances in the first half to put the game beyond Naaarrich. I'm a bit concerned about his assumption that bringing someone in is going to magically fix things. There's no guarantee that, even if a proven striker comes to us, that they'll perform any better than our current strikers. I'm also concerned that he seems to have just acepted the defeat, like it was inevitable. The reference to 'groundhog day' just seems to me like he never expects to win games? Worrying. Hmmm, not sure about his reference to not walking away from things, it could either mean he's the type of person that will strugle and strive in the face of adversity or he's just too stuborn to accept that things are never going to work out. Roll on January...
Anish Posted 31 December 2005 Posted 31 December 2005 You may not know this, but it was Jon Barber who interviewed Levein on this piece, and Barber certainly put Levein under some pressure with some tricky questions. Barber's come under fire a number of times on here but respect to him for the questions he asked today - it showed some bottle. As for Levein saying he won't resign - do any of you blame him? He's probably earning more money here than he has anywhere in his career before, so why should he walk away? He's got every right to stay - if the club want to get rid of him they'll have to pay him off.
ithuriel Posted 31 December 2005 Posted 31 December 2005 im not paying any more of my hard earned cash to sit and watch that rubbish.
john_lcfc Posted 31 December 2005 Posted 31 December 2005 i was joining in every anti levein song going around today in L1 of which there were quite a few. i think the guy is clearly not good enough for the job and is out of his depths. he clearly isnt the right man to take leicester foreward.agreed? however we cannot afford to sack him he is contracted to far and to pay him off would cost a fortune. it wouldnt cost as much as if we were to be relegated though but if we were to sack him which i feel we should we as a club must have a man who is going to be in charge for the rest of the season at least. if not then realistically hes going to stay so we need him to resign. LEVEIN OUT LEVEIN OUT. we could maybe get a caretaker in for the rest of the season, to replace levein who is likely to take us down however is there any point? discuss. im not sure what to think or want or chant at the moment i think anyone would be better than levein at the moment after watching that shambles
TornadoShaunUK Posted 31 December 2005 Posted 31 December 2005 I must say I kind of feel sorry for him after today but things just aren't working out. I am not convinced that a striker is our only trouble. IF he manages to get decent striker in january theres no guarantee hes going to be the free-scoring goal machine we need. I know hes going to say hes not going to walk out but hes bound to say that, if he really starts feeling the heat after hes had chance to bring a 'goalscorer' in it could be telling as that's his main claim that we aren't winning games at the moment. I just thought to myself he came he and said he wanted to make this place a fortress, we must have teams at the moment thinking "3 points, its ok we've got a trip to the Walkers in a few weeks.." <_<
lush Posted 31 December 2005 Posted 31 December 2005 Levein said: "We have been here before. It's Groundhog Day. I felt that we played very well, as we have been doing previously, but we didn't take or chances. Hes talking about one in the last six games...the spin craig is coming out with now is more incredible than foxes trust. Hes obviously panic stricken, hes not thinking straight, trying to turn attention away from his jobs future. "There were three occasions today when the ball has flashed across the face of goal. A striker should be scoring there - but they didn't. I thought our strikers played well, but when the ball flashes across the goal inside the six yard box you should be scoring. I believe that the missing ingredient is someone who can put the ball in the net. Yes, we certainly need another striker to not only partner hume, but to add competition with elvis aswell. I heard a rumour west broms earnshaw is available, now he would be great. Have we enough dosh? "It's tightening up at the bottom and that is something that we are obviously aware of. If you look at the effort and the workrate that the players have put in then you will see that they had a real go. You would expect that at home. They went right to the end. Someone on Rivals mentioned some players were arguing. Ive seen this a few times recently myself. Is craig defending the possibility the players have lost interest? Palace and sheff wed away next, not easy, but a chance to distance themselves from the moaning pressure brigade. "I haven't even thought about walking away from my position here and I never would. This is a job that is going to take two or three seasons and I would never walk away from it." And hes not talking about last season neither. This 2/3 year plan started in august.
Thracian Posted 31 December 2005 Posted 31 December 2005 "Stand not upon the order of thy going but go at once....." Wm Shakespeare. What a great director old Bill would have been.
Jordan Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 I don't think Levein's long-term plan accounts for relegation into the League One, so he'd better figure out something to fix things ASAP and get back to his master plan when his team isn't teetering on the brink of the fvcking relegation zone (or worse).
Durnerz Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 "I think the supporters were appreciative of how well we have played today. My job now is to bring someone into the club when the transfer window opens to try and help us turn the corner. So he didnt notice the chants of "LEVEIN OUT" then from the entire kop?

I couldn't believe that comment. How out of touch can you be? There were tears in some fans eyes when I walked out and not because of the cold. Some were just shell-shocked. After the banal questions of the Reading Press conference, well done John Barber if you asked some real questions. Nice to hear from the directors now.
MC Prussian Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 "Craig Levein was again left frustrated" "People want success immediately, that's how it is in football, but I'm happy with the long-term strategy even though we have hit a stumbling block." (Levein on bbc.co.uk) I would have agreed with the second bit. A couple of months ago. But now, you just can't use that argumentation any more. It's too late. And it just shows that the responsibles have run out of valid points. Now, the longer it goes, the more frustrated I become. All those games, I've never heard any sincere comments, just the same old excuses. I'm sick and tired of the repetitious responses we get from the club responsibles, nobody wants to take the blame and admit that they've made mistakes. It's just like one big "Evasion Day".... There is no character in those post-match interviews, a fact that also represents the lack of character within the team and the management. We've fallen into a state of unconsciousness, where everybody just neglects to take care of the business. It's simply a shame. If we had the chance, we should replace the ENTIRE club, from top to bottom.
lush Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 I somewhat amazingly agree with swisspiss, that no one seems to wana take blame. Craig blames the strikers for not scoring, yet he bought them here to score goals. I think with the exception of the exceptional hume, the others dont seem good enough. But lifes so up n down, is it the fault of de lump? Whenever hammond partnered hume, we looked threatening, so why is craig portraying blame when he picks the front 2? The board dont wana take blame, because they`ve ensured our money to a longer term contract and finace of craigs plan. The facts speak for themselves, not one of lcfc`s "comrades" (foxes trust, mockery etc) have "hit out" at craigs desperate disaster. It is then left to the decent bluearmy following, to disect the turkey festival bonanza pieces left, come january the 1st 2006? When will we decide the outcome of our club? Yes yes, i know i said give craig until atleast jan 31st, but the running of the club until then, should not bullsh!t us. Ive been trying to explain for months now, that those who run OUR club, dont give a flying about us. This is time to take on board what ive been saying. YOU (and i mean EVERY decent foxes fan) have a massive voice to change things for the better. That doesnt mean getting rid of levein, it means getting rid of the spin that blags you. Theres only so many chances in life to change things, let this be one of them, for you will not get another one for YEARS!! Im drunk, and if ive not made sense, you know why
MC Prussian Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 This is from TheBlueArmy.co.uk: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- City boss insists: I'll tough it out! Craig Levein is sticking to his guns - even though Leicester City's Championship plight is drawing increasing criticism. Every City manager gets it at sometime or another, but Levein said today he has no intention of allowing the stick to deflect him from what he insists is the right path. He said: "I am here to do a job and build a team. We have hit a sticky period - it happens - but it doesn't change what I believe in. "We need to solve a short-term problem of goalscoring. "This is a three-year task," he said. "We have changed the whole club and the team has only really been together since the summer. "Go back a year and we lost to Rotherham. We are a much better team now and that will be proved. It is easy for people on the outside to be negative, just by looking at the league table. "But it is those who believe in, and understand what we are trying to do, who will be proved right." City are hovering too close to the relegation frame in 20th spot and the holiday programme could see them slip into the dreaded 'drop zone' if their results, and those of other struggling teams, do not go their way. Levein, preparing his team to face an in-form Norwich today and a trip to promotion-chasing Crystal Palace on Monday, said: "That is something I am not considering. "It has been frustrating. Some people out there think we are heading in the right direction, others don't. "From my point of view, it would be wrong to say I am not worried in the slightest about it, but we have enough players with the right attitude. "We don't think we are entitled to be anywhere in the league table other than what we merit. "And, as long as we keep working away, and do the things we feel are right, then it is up to me bring people in and turn it into victories. "Our thing is getting over this immediate problem and going on a run, and that means scoring goals. Then you will always have a chance." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Somebody having illusions? The results are on the pitch, day in, day out.
The People's Hero Posted 1 January 2006 Posted 1 January 2006 Oh God. We're stuck with this incompetent, arrogant, stubborn, half-witted idiot until he gets bored then? Great start to 2006. Never been outside of the top two divisions. It's been nice being able to say that...
