Available Managers

Recommended Posts

We heavily researched the stats on over 50 managers at the time, CL's read at the time of research:

Craig Levein's managerial career

Team Hearts............Cowdenbeath

Games......168...............127

Won...........73.................46

Drawn........41.................26

Lost...........54.................55

That was a career win ratio of 40.3% - from memory only 2 other managers had a better record & they were at lower League clubs, so we felt CL was the best option.

The club did similar research as we had a long discussion about it

Thanks for getting back to us, but with respect, Cowdenbeath play at a level roughly equivalent to the Conference. Therefore his record there doesn't appear to be particularly relevant.

It's also well documented how difficult SPL managers find it to adapt to managing south of the border. The examples of Walter Smith, Jim Jeffries and Bobby Williamson spring readily to mind. Even Sir Alex Ferguson, who guided Aberdeen to numerous domestic and European honours, took years to settle at Old Trafford.

Whatever promise CL may have shown at Hearts (and indeed in his early days here) has long since disappeared. The level of disillusion among the faithful will be all too evident from the rows of empty seats that will be on show at the Spurs game, which in other circumstances could have been filled.

Big decisions will be needed in the days ahead. Peter Taylor pleaded in the summer of 2001 for more time from the board of the day, and was given it.

We have yet to recover from the effects of that misjudgement, which almost proved fatal to the club.

Should another error of similar magnitude be made, we may not be so fortunate second time around.

To be fair though, the 'Super Stevie Claridge' chant was a reference to the '96 Play-Off final, not a request from the fans for a new manager.

 People saying Cottee, Claridge, Elliott and Dublin are "Leicester people" with passion. What they have in passion they lack in management experience - the opposite to Levein - i wouldnt want any ex-Leicester hero to come and manage us because in 1years time they will be the most hated man in the City.

Steve Claridge as Martin O'Neill's assistant for 5 months? O'Neill still has a house near the area and would be able to take care of his wife as well as managing a club.

What, just chuck her Brekkie through the window from the training ground?lol

A city fan on the football phone in on Heart FM seems pretty confident that City have enquired about his availability

Not for me (sorry) a great player yes, but we need an experienced manager to dig us out of this hole at the moment

a) Someone with experience.

b) Someone cheap.

c) Someone with a good recent track record.

GM ticks one of those criterias.

And what are the chances of finding a manager with all that criteria, who would actually consider taking over this shambles of a club?
