Available Managers

Tony cottee, he played for us under MON so he would have learned a trick or to off him, he ahs played for us so will probably know what we want be passionate for it like us? :D

Errrr...

Tony Cottee (Barnet)

Barnet felt they had pulled off something of a coup when persuading Tony Cottee to leave a decent playing contract at Norwich City to turn his hand to management in what was then the Third Division.

The Bees were looking up, intent on reaching at least the play-offs and booking a return to the Second Division. As with Barnes, it started so brilliantly.

In his first home match after taking over in November 2000 it was Blackpool who made the trip to Underhill. Cottee and Co dished out a 7-0 thrashing, with the boss himself scoring the opening goal. All seemed rosy... for one match.

Barnet won only two of their next ten games, including a 6-1 beating at Harlepool United. By the time Cottee left the club in mid-March they were all but relegated. He won only four League matches in what was a disastrous four-month spell in charge.

His record in all competitions was: Pld-25 Won-7 Drawn-3 Lost-15. And three of those victories came in the FA Cup First Round against Hampton & Richmond and in the LDV Vans Trophy.

They went down on the final day when they lost at home to Torquay United in a relegation shoot-out. It's taken four years for them to recover from Cottee's days in charge, finally winning promotion back to the Football League for the 2005/06 campaign.

yep good point regarding linekar

cottee hasnt managed anyone - granted he learnt a thing or two about MON but its too risky going for someone unproven like cottee (unless he had an experienced mentor alongside him - Sir Bobby maybe?)

The only two I'd consider from that list would be Bobby Robson and Terry Venables.

It's just not going to happen though. We're in the shit, but we'll have to accept that Levein will be the only person to turn it around because we have no alternative.

The new manager should be someone who will get the respect of the players and the ability to keep us up, as now we are in a relegation fight. I beleive that the board should give the job to Bobby Robson on a short term contract and review it again in the summer. This giving time for either Dion Dublin or Matt Elliot time to do the badges needed to manage.

that was a long time ago! and you learn from your mistakes! he would be a good bet i reckon with the current assistant mananger by his side to keep him in line, make CL director of football lol cheeper then sacking him! and he can help cottee on his way! him or Tony Adams!

If that was true, we may as well all slash our wrists now.

We should expect certain standards at our club. And neither he nor his signings have met them!

Tim Davies has openly admitted it's not good enough - but I imagine we simply don't have the resources to pay Levein and his backroom staff off. It's a depressing thought, but that's the reality of the situation. Levein resigning is the only viable option. However, he seems far too stubborn for that. First of all, he think it's only a minority of the crowd who want him out. Secondly, he think we're struggling 'a little bit.' That will keep him going for a while yet.

Tony Cottee, Matt Elliott, Dion Dublin, Tony Adams.

God help us.

At least all four of those individuals have decades of experience in English football. Something that the current incumbent doesn't have.

Whatever were the board (and the Foxes Trust for that matter) thinking of when they deemed him suitable to manage our club?

He did a good job at Hearts and we all know he talks the talk.

What do you think of Stuart Gray? He's currently second man to Hoddle at Wolves and has a decent record. He would certainly fit into the 'young and hungry' managers that we supposedly keep employing

The appointment of Levein was fine and I suggest a large majority of Leicester fans were happy with it.

You're right.

Although a bit of a unknown quantity, his early promise of rebuilding the team in to a younger, hungrier one was music to our ears. We had witnessed the lifeless performances with MA's squad, and that had to be addressed for the long term benefit of the club as we had stagnated. We couldn't keep operating by having a huge turnover of players every summer, so this seemed to be the way forward. His record at Hearts seemed encouraging, but at the same time, there had been a number of managers such as Bobby Williams and Jim Jefferies, who had failed miserabely south of the border. Nevertheless, Hearts fan were disappointed to lose him after he turned the club around.

While Levein talks a good game, he's rarely replicated this on the pitch. Yes, he's drafted in a few young, talented players in the form of Hughes, McCarthy and Hume, but that has been countered by the likes of Douglas, Kisnorbo, Sylla, Hamill, Gilbert (Although never given a chance) and Hammond. Add to that the underperformers in Maybury, Johansson, and de Vries.

The inability to field a consistent side, the fearful approach to games, the bemusing tactics, and the choice of players selected have all contributed to Levein's appalling record as Leicester manager. We have the 5th highest wage budget in the division, and we're 21st in the league with the threat of relegation looming. He's been here for 14 months, and we have gradually got worse, not better as he promised. I understand he has a long term rebuilding job for the club, but his failings are too obvious, and I'm beginning to think he's not the right man for the job.

We heavily researched the stats on over 50 managers at the time, CL's read at the time of research:

Craig Levein's managerial career

Team Hearts............Cowdenbeath

Games......168...............127

Won...........73.................46

Drawn........41.................26

Lost...........54.................55

That was a career win ratio of 40.3% - from memory only 2 other managers had a better record & they were at lower League clubs, so we felt CL was the best option.

The club did similar research as we had a long discussion about it

We DO have the money to pay him and his team off. There's £500K on its way to us from the Beeb, plus another million from Wigan for the David Connolly deal.

OK, it could be argued that the money could be spent in other ways. But if he stays, 5000 season ticket holders will walk away (even if we managed to stay up) at the end of the season, so we'll end up losing money anyway!
