Manwell Pablo Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 My bet is now it's someone from Portsmouth. They have plenty of good strikers but don't really need them now due to this huge influx on money...have just signed someone new for 4.1 million which leaves them with more strikers then they need: Lomana Tresor LuaLua: GP 16 | G 3 Age 25 Collins Mbesuma : GP 4 | G 0 Age 21 (previously South African player of the year with 35 in 34 games) Vincent Pericard : GP 5 | G 0 Age 23 Dario Silva: GP 13 | G 2 Age 33 Svetoslav Todorov: GP 11 | G 1 Age 27 Of all of them LuaLua, Pericard and Todorov (who was awesome at this level for Portsmouth) are pretty exciting although Todorov is the most natural finisher. All have gone for sums of around 1/2 million and are down the pecking order now. As for when was the last time a signing really excited me...Mancini or Collymore (and even more so after the Sunderland game) Todorov is not a bad shout, the rest are probabley out of our prince range.
London_Fox Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 Same logic now applies for Birmingham who have got Sutton in but it looks like Pandiani, Forsell and Heskey are above us (having said that I wouldn't complain if CL pulled off a miracle).

Shauno45 Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 Also add Olisadebe on Portsmouths strikers list, on loan for the rest of the season
Strokes Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 Same logic now applies for Birmingham who have got Sutton in but it looks like Pandiani, Forsell and Heskey are above us (having said that I wouldn't complain if CL pulled off a miracle). Haven't they got that Nafti Kuqi aswell?
guildfordfox Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 Haven't they got that Nafti Kuqi aswell? Yeah, and Steve Bruce has said that he is available for loan, no idea how good he is tho!
teblin Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 Todarov is a very good shout if he is fit! I can't see the fowler thing myself but if it happens well done craig he can certainly finish. webber? read he was unsettled at sheff utd?
London_Fox Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 Yeah but since we're guessing high profile I left out both Olisadebe and Nafti Kuqi because they don't quite fit the bill of strikers with experiance of scoring goals at a high level (and I don't know anything about them to be honest). Todorov is now fit I think but does have a habit of picking up serious injuries...I guess anyone we pick up from a Premiership or decent European side will have had some problems with form ro injuries because no-one is going to let a top quality finisher who is in form and injury free go. Add another name in which hasn't been mention...Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, end of season loan so he gain get back to match fitness and he must about fifth or sixth choice at united now...that would get me excited!
Ric Flair Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 Some of the names being thrown up here are ridiculous. Why the **** would Olisadebe be up for grabs when Portsmouth only signed him yesterday. Morons.
Ric Flair Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 What about Brett ormrodd... bet yah I mentioned him the other day, definately a great player and not out of our league.
syston_fox Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 Can I just add that it says its only 50-50 that this new player will come so dont get to excited...... What about Francis Jeffers anyway? Rangers sent him back to charlton a couple of weeks ago.....just an idea
Fox in a Box Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 I mentioned him the other day, definately a great player and not out of our league. does he play at saints still? trev benji is also on the transfer list at peterboro
Leicester_Mad Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 Some of the names being thrown up here are ridiculous. Why the **** would Olisadebe be up for grabs when Portsmouth only signed him yesterday. Morons. they were just adding to the list of pompey strikers not speculating that we were signing him, chill out love
Raspeir Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 i think the Osiladebe thing was just a genuine mistake.. He's international class and was with inter not that long ago, Pompey have signed him on loan for the rest of the season to try and ease their goalscoring problems As for Todorov.. he tended to feed heavily off of Merson when pompey were storming through Div 1, I fear that whoever we get in we might still struggle without that creative spark of a midfielder we had in Izzet last time around..

Janx Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 But is that 50/50 on clinching the deal at all or in time for Sunday? sorry to repeat myself but I see no substance in this story...... it tells us nowt!
Ric Flair Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 does he play at saints still? trev benji is also on the transfer list at peterboro Still at Southampton, but rarely gets in.
davieG Posted 6 January 2006 Author Posted 6 January 2006 sorry to repeat myself but I see no substance in this story...... it tells us nowt! Well if you're repeating yourself I will You're right and the chances are it's just a bit of propaganda to boost ticket sales for sunday.
London_Fox Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 I don't know about that...while Todorov did feed off Merson, who wouldn't? It's a question of whether he can adapt and feed off our midfield. Stats show that creating chances isn't our problem and Todorov seems to have enough quality to convert those chances. We're going to struggle to find an inspirtational midfielder to create chances and a quality striker to convert them with our status and I suspect our funds. Stephen Hughes can play that role and when he pulls his finger out so can Gareth Williams (by the way Man City are trying to sign Ashton and Danny Murphy so it seems unlikely that they will also spend money on Williams).
syston_fox Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 But is that 50/50 on clinching the deal at all or in time for Sunday? I dunno. I wouldnt be suprised if we dont sign anyone until after the spurs game. I think that Levein isnt in any hurry because he knows his job is safe so doesnt have much pressure on him from the borad. They need to offer him an ultimatum. Get a certain amount of points from the next 5 games or you're out. That would give him the kick up the backside he needs!
Manwell Pablo Posted 6 January 2006 Posted 6 January 2006 they were just adding to the list of pompey strikers not speculating that we were signing him, chill out love Well if we wanted a List of Pompey strikers we would of asked one. I'm quite sure that wasn't what they ment. I cant blame him for the use of the word morons. Their have been some ridicoulous names mentioned on this site over the past month.

This is the thing with all this speculating and saying they & CL should do this that or the other, apart from not yet sacking him we don't know what they've said, how much or how long he's got - in fact we know FA
