Cobbo Posted 30 January 2006 Posted 30 January 2006 Doh, I was slightly late with my topic Trio Make The Grade Three Leicester City players have been named in a 33-man squad for the forthcoming match with the Italian League at Hull City's Kingston Communications Stadium on Feb 21 (Kick-off 7.45pm). Academy product Richard Stearman, Arsenal loanee Ryan Smith and recent signing Matty Fryatt will now be hoping to make the final cut when the squad is reduced to 16 players in the lead up to the game. As the pinnacle of The Football League's youth development programme, the match will see the best young talent from the Coca-Cola Football League in action against their counterparts from Italy's Serie B. The Football League Under-21 Squad: Goalkeepers Lee Camp Derby County Scott Flinders Barnsley Ross Turnbull Crewe Alexandra (on loan from Middlesbrough) Jamie Young Rushden & Diamonds (on loan from Reading) Defenders Gary Borrowdale Crystal Palace Luke Chambers Northampton Town Andrew Davies Derby County (on loan from Middlesbrough) Simon Francis Tranmere Rovers (on loan from Sheffield United) Andy Holdsworth Huddersfield Town Dean Lewington Milton Keynes Dons Matthew Mills Southampton Wes Morgan Nottingham Forest Richard Stearman Leicester City Kelvin Wilson Notts County Scott Wiseman Hull City Midfielders Chris Eagles Watford (on loan from Manchester United) Billy Jones Crewe Alexandra Anthony McNamee Watford James Perch Nottingham Forest Ryan Smith Leicester City (on loan from Arsenal) Tom Soares Crystal Palace Simon Walton Leeds United Ben Watson Crystal Palace John Welsh Hull City Simon Whaley Preston North End Forwards Dexter Blackstock Southampton Matt Fryatt Leicester City Cameron Jerome Cardiff City Leroy Lita Reading Izale McLeod Milton Keynes Dons Billy Paynter Hull City David Nugent Preston North End Ashley Young Watford The match will be the 13th of its kind, since the two Leagues first met in November 1960 at Milan's San Siro stadium - with the Italian League winning 4-2. The most recent meeting was in November 1998 in Terni and finished 1-1. Tickets can be purchased through Hull City, and are £8 for adults, with concessions £4. Under 7's accompanied by a paying adult can attend for free. Former City boss Peter Taylor will take charge of the side on the night.

Manwell Pablo Posted 30 January 2006 Posted 30 January 2006 I think Stearmen will probabley get in the squad, Smith will have to start playing better, hate to say it but Fryatts got no chance
DaveyJ Posted 30 January 2006 Posted 30 January 2006 I think Stearmen will probabley get in the squad, Smith will have to start playing better, hate to say it but Fryatts got no chance Not ahead of Lita and Nugent, but I think Stearman's got a fair chance of making the team.
Manwell Pablo Posted 30 January 2006 Posted 30 January 2006 Not ahead of Lita and Nugent, but I think Stearman's got a fair chance of making the team. I was thinking more of Young, Lita, Jerome (Nugents got no chance as well). He will be gone im afraid, unless he scores a hat-trick tommorow
Cat Burger Posted 30 January 2006 Posted 30 January 2006 33 man squad? what on earth is the point? Enjoy your trip to Hull for nothing lads.
Nationwider Posted 30 January 2006 Posted 30 January 2006 33 man squad? what on earth is the point? Enjoy your trip to Hull for nothing lads. Yup. Why on earth do we want three of our better players going to play in such a nothing match? Let's hope none of them get picked. The last thing we want is for Stearman or Fryatt to get injured.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 30 January 2006 Posted 30 January 2006 A 33 man squad! Blimey, they're leaving nothing to chance there.

davieG Posted 12 February 2006 Posted 12 February 2006 Peter Taylor, manager of The Football League under-21 team, has announced his final squad for the forthcoming match with the Italian League at Hull City's Kingston Communications Stadium on Feb 21 (Kick-off 7.45pm). The squad, which has been reduced to a party of 21 from the provisional 33-man squad announced recently, includes players from all three divisions of The Football League. As the pinnacle of The Football League's youth development programme, the match will see the best young talent from the Coca-Cola Football League in action against their counterparts from Italy's Serie B. The Reverend Posted 12 February 2006 Posted 12 February 2006 Arrrr is the little Wednesday fan jealous of clubs that actually have some decent young players? Dont say that Manwell or he'll go and have a tommy tank over Chris Brunt
City Fan Posted 12 February 2006 Posted 12 February 2006 So Fryatt isn't in the final squad? Madness. Well thats PT for you, could work to our advantage!
Birch'sLeftBoot Posted 12 February 2006 Posted 12 February 2006 Also being a pretty big Forest supporter (I know, it's not always compatible), Morgan has looked solid in a crap season and should be named. Camp is solid, and of the Foxes, I would say Stearman and Fryatt should go...although Lita is superb and will probably edge the Matty for a spot on the front two with Blackstock. I like the young crop here a lot...I just hope that Weso's injury is nothing at all serious.
The Reverend Posted 12 February 2006 Posted 12 February 2006 Well thats PT for you, could work to our advantage! PT knows nowt about football. FACT. He chooses Izale McLeod in front of Fryatt, when Fryatt is playing in a much better league and has scored 3 goals in about 5 starts. You could say that he hasnt adjusted the Championship yet, but his goals to game ratio suggests otherwise. But, look on the bright side, he wont be knackered for perhaps an important game.
Ric Flair Posted 13 February 2006 Posted 13 February 2006 But no Fryatt? How strange, out of the 3 City players first chosen it has to be said that Fryatt is the in form player. Taylor's a useless cooont though.
Louise Posted 20 February 2006 Posted 20 February 2006 Both Stearman and Smith are out of the final squad with 'slight injuries'. So we've pulled them out then
