Head Honcho Posted 31 January 2006 Posted 31 January 2006 I have decided to stop eating meat(but not fish) and was wondering if anyone can give me any ideas on what to eat, I was walking round Tesco earlier and all they had was bloody ready made meals. I'm looking for some good recipes that I can cook myself and don't want to go down the soya or tofu route.

I actually use quorn mince or pieces, when mixed with other things it tastes fantastic, I made a fantastic vegetable chilli last week - just make it as you would normally but omit the meat part and Bob is indeed your mothers brother. Basically I make stews, pasta sauces etc and just dont put the meat in

The People's Hero Posted 31 January 2006 Posted 31 January 2006 I love meat. I'd really hate to give it up. Having said that, I've had some veg dishes which were superb. Some Thai stuff (if you like that sort of thing) is just amazing - so tasty. If you're still eating fish... prawn/salmon salad is great with a nice dressing and some new potatoes. I sense you're looking for a something a little more culinary and less obvious though.

The People's Hero Posted 31 January 2006 Posted 31 January 2006 In places like China/Thailand, a lot of the population (compared to here) I believe are vegetarian. My brother lives out in Hong Kong and has become vegetarian since moving out there. I believe there is great seafood available. Anyway, in short, some of their dishes are very good and do not contain meat - might be worth a little extra research.
Guest Posted 1 February 2006 Posted 1 February 2006 Quorn makes me puke But I'm cheating too as I will be eating fish just no meat, carbs or white bread which makes it difficult cause in the past I ate everything with spuds or bread Is there any reason why you're cutting out carbs as well? If it's for weight loss, you'll end up ill, especially without the protein as you will lose muscle mass quicker.
Babylon Posted 1 February 2006 Posted 1 February 2006 not strcitly true as our teeth and bowls are made for Veg, but feck that.... I luv ma babybackbabybackbabybackbabybackbabybackribs! They are also made for meat!!! That's why we have four flesh rippers at the front!! Hmmmm bacon sarnie with brown sauce!!!

If it's for weight loss, you'll end up ill, especially without the protein as you will lose muscle mass quicker. I'm not as active as I used to be so need to lose about a stone, but its not just for weight loss, I also want to start eating healthily so I thought a mainly fish diet supplemented with vegetables, brown rice , brown bread and wholewheat pasta would do, but don't really know how to combine them, they all sound a bit bland, but I'm determined to stick to it. Best thing I've done so far is to start the morning with porridge, That keeps me going for about 4 hours, I'll then have a bowl of Muesli with a Banana then nothing until 6ish, and it's here that I'm stumped on what to eat

City Fan Posted 1 February 2006 Posted 1 February 2006 If you don't want ready made meals Allen, the easy alternative is just to EAT MEAT!!! Mmmmmmm meat........

Chairman of the Bored Posted 3 February 2006 Posted 3 February 2006 I've been veggie for 20 years and I'm as fit as a fiddle (apart from a dodgy cartilage, bad back and sore head every time we lose). Can I recommend Delia's Vegetarian Cookbook. Truly amazing. Try: Indian, South East Asian, Italian and cheese toasty brevilles. We should have a veggie corner at The Walkers. Meat eaters fart terribly I've found. Just don't ever go to Chesterfield and ask for veggie food. I went to see Bournemouth there a couple of years back and a guy in front of me asked the woman on the burger stand "Have you got any veggie food?", "Of course we have" she replied. "I can do you a nice burger with onions only."
