Samu Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 Douglas 7-A couple of dodgy kicks but hey he kept a clean sheet. Stearman 7-Miller was causing him a few problems but he dealt well with him. Kisnorbo 8-Generally very solid, a couple of brilliant and crucial touches when needed. McCarthy 8-Same as Kisnorbo really, both played very well. Great to see his enthusiasm though after the match had finished by coming over to the crowd. Johansson 7-Dunno if a 6 is a bit harsh but thought he played quite well, just a couple of bad passes. Maybury 6-Ok but not a right winger, got caught out a couple of times but did play a great through pass to Hume in the first half which he should have put away. Joey 7-Played well, couldnt quite take control of the game but good nonetheless Weso 9-First time I'd seen this lad and I can't remember him putting a foot wrong. Brilliant. One great surging run in the second half. Loved it. MOM. Hughes 7-Good performance and looking like the quality player we signed last year. Fryatt 8-Quietish first half but a couple of brilliant turns. Was difficult against a physical Lescott but took his goal well. Hume 8-Won quite a few balls in the air which was suprising and general workload fantastic. Overall I got a ticket at the last minute and thoroughly enjoyed watching a well deserved win. Second half they just came out and played brilliantly. Yey we won
Mark Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 Douglas - 7 Stearman - 7 McCarthy - 9 - See his passion at the end - Legend! Kisnorbo - 9 Johansson - 6 Maybury - 5 Gudjonsson - 6 Wesolowski - 9 Hughes - 6 Fryatt - 8 Hume - 5 O'Grady - 6
Bert Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 Rab - 7 - hardly anything to do, except 1 decent save from Miller Stearman - 7 - Kept Miller quiet, good going forward. Nils - 6 - bit clumsy at timesw but solid in the air. Paddy Mac - 8 - another solid display, very composed. Kisnorbo - 8 - He's so much better at centre back. Maybury- 6 - exactly the same as Samu. Hughes - 7 - worked very hard, some classy touches to. Gudjonsson - 7 - did his job. Wesolowski - 8 - excellent all round performance. Fryatt - 9 - Motm, never stopped running, always a trouble and scored. Hume 8.5 - very to close motm, ran himself into the ground, a very intelligent display. O'Grady - 7 done well when he came on.
Goddard Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 I thought hume played well. He's got a great leap and he didn't give their defense a second on the ball
Swedging Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 Douglas - 7 - commanded the area better than normal. Not sure about the ball that came of his noggin, though. Stearman - 7 - not as powerful a presence as he often is. McCarthy - 7 - looked much more convincing in defence but missed when it looked easier to score Kisnorbo - 8 - beautiful positional play. Not so sharp when moving forward. Johansson - 7 - for once, left side wasn't the normal weakest point of defence. Maybury - 5 - ach. Play him elsewhere. Gudjonsson - 6 - sometimes influential, sometimes erratic Wesolowski - 8 - great performance. Strong on the ball, gets in good positions, and plays the quick, simple, RIGHT ball often. Hughes - 7 - some great touches, playing others in, but not always in the right place. Fryatt - 8 - great hassling, poaching and eye for goal. Looked a little slow at times in the 1st half, though: is he carrying a minor injury? Hume - 8 - superbly disruptive and at last seems to be linking well with team-mates O'Grady - 6 - played too deep for my liking.
Durnerz Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 Douglas 7 - Good reactions in goal and came out very well, looks much more confident. Stearman 8 - Stuck to his task brilliantly with Miller and looked decent going forward. Kisnorbo 8 - Dominant in the air, tidy on the floor, looks a different player. Mccarthy 7 - His headers went here there and everywhere first half but picked up in the second. Johansson 9 MOTM - Best game ive seen him play at left back, dominant in the air, played some brilliant balls over the top and stuck to his task with Ricketts. Maybury 6 - Did ok, slow at times to react but stayed with his runners the majority of the time. Gudjonsson 7 - Alway busy in the middle and played some quality corners into the box. Wesolowski 8 - Full of energy, classy on the ball, strangely good in the air for his size and gets stuck in, a real gem. Hughes 6 - Went unnoticed a lot but did a lot of running off the ball and provided a creative spark at times on the wing. Hume 8 - Brilliant work rate with playing Striker and Midfield when we were defending, impressive contests with Lescott in the air but should have scored. Fryatt 8 - Work rate was brilliant when he was up front on his own, took his chance well and kept the ball. O'grady 6 - Did alright.

Monk Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 Douglas - 7 - nothing to bother him much - dealt with that nasty bounce well. eventually. Stearman - 7 - some solid tackles towards the end McCarthy - 7 - Plenty of header, but they rarely fell to a leicester foot Kisnorbo - 8 - all credit to the guy for MOM. Solid Johansson - 7 - some careless throw ins but was injured so you got to hand it to him for putting the shirt on for 90 mins Maybury - 7 - gets out of position too much but made some important tackles in the second half Gudjonsson - 7 held the midfield well. Wesolowski - 9 - Joe Cole in disguise. Awesome mazy runs and holding the ball up to help the team regain their positions when attacking. Hughes - 7 - didnt win enough 50-50 balls but he is my new 'savage in the making' so its a 7 Fryatt - 9 - bloody awesome. always looking dangerous as a skilful striker and as a poacher Hume - 7 - good link ups but rarely looks like scoring O'Grady - 7 - held the ball up well when we needed to in the last 10 minutes and got some good lay off headers to matty F
Ricey Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 Douglas - 7 Stearman - 7 McCarthy - 8 Kisnorbo - 8 - Looked very assured at the back with Paddy Johansson - 7 Maybury - 6 - Very poor, worries me Kelly thinks he's a winger Gudjonsson - 7 Wesolowski - 9 - What a player, bossed the midfield! He looked confident, very good on the ball, good vision and was very vocal. Hughes - 7 Hume - 7 Fryatt - 9 - Never gave up and won a fair few aerial battles O'Grady - 7

lush Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 Maybury - 6 - Very poor, worries me Kelly thinks he's a winger why a 6 if hes very poor? kelly doesnt think hes a winger, theres little other choice for him, and stearman drifftted out onto the wing in the first half.
The People's Hero Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 why a 6 if hes very poor? kelly doesnt think hes a winger, theres little other choice for him, and stearman drifftted out onto the wing in the first half. Why am I surprised that you queried Maybury's rating? Maybe he'd play better in his 'natural' position of central midfield, eh?
Ricey Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 why a 6 if hes very poor? kelly doesnt think hes a winger, theres little other choice for him, and stearman drifftted out onto the wing in the first half. ...because the team won and he wasn't very awful How can you say there's little other choice when we have Smith sitting on the bench?
davieG Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 why a 6 if hes very poor? kelly doesnt think hes a winger, theres little other choice for him, and stearman drifftted out onto the wing in the first half. Stearman didn't 'drift' onto the wing he continually swapped places with Maybury on purpose, you could see them arranging it throughout the game; so that he was at the back defending free kicks & goal kicks and further down the wing when we attacked, presumably to take advantage of his height. Maybury was poor today but apparently he's been ill these last few days. As for playing on the wing, it would seem that Kelly is not adverse to playing people out of position Maybury, Johansson and Hughes the difference is it's not perceived as a major problem when you're winning. With Maybury in the team it also makes us a more defensive outfit again not a problem if you're winning.

The problem with having Maybs and Stearman swap is that now and then they'd be confusion and no one would be filling the right back position. Add that to Nissa drifting into the middle you geta defence vunerable to attacks down the wing, however Wolves did not exploit that today.
Libertine Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 Momo is back now anyway as Guinea were knocked out last night. So he should be available to play on the right wing. I'll be glad to have him back too, considering he's the only right winger we have in the squad, hopefully Kelly can give him a kick up t'arse and make him show us what he's capable of.
The People's Hero Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 The players played with no confidence but with an abundance of fear under Levein. Sylla is actually one of those whom could benefit from Levein going the most. If he still has the heart for it , that is.
Bert Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 I'm sure he will do 'cos he will want to impress the new manager. (Sylla that is) I think many people's problems when Levein was in charge was that there was so much expectation (prior to what Levein had said in previous months) thus putting extra pressure on the players to perform, now Levein has gone and none of the same excuses are coming out every week the players seem to be playing a bit more freely and i think they have shown this in the past few games with the will to fight tooth and nail for the club.

Sylla is actually one of those whom could benefit from Levein going the most. If he still has the heart for it , that is. So true. A perfect example of this is Smith. He played amazingly at first booming with confidence, but as stated by many, towards the end of CL's reign he looked as if he was scared to run with the ball.

Also the 'awful refereeing' against us and 'wonder goals' from the opposition seem to have dried up. Levein was just really unlucky, like he said.

LCFC UK Posted 4 February 2006 Posted 4 February 2006 Johansson 9 MOTM - Best game ive seen him play at left back, dominant in the air, played some brilliant balls over the top and stuck to his task with Ricketts. I went to the game, i dont know how you can give Nils a 9 and on top of that MOTM, fair do mate its your opinion , but my god he was awful, theres passing, and theres hoofing! He was constantly out of position, never marking his man, in fact all attacks came past his side, they obviously realised he was the weak link..hence how they hardly ever attacked Stearmans side. I hate to say it but ive watched him all season, he is the worst player i have ever seen where a city shirt, he is unfit, overweight and a complete waste of space, my brother said to me i dont know why they dont just take him off and put a forward on for him, because he may as well not be playing at all, bitt OTT yeah but could see his point. I hate to slag players off, but when they are as bad as him, they deserve it. Kisnorbo got the offical MOTM, which i just cant understand - maybe for the stick he got recently. MOTM by a mile was Gudjohnsen, he pulled all the strings and to be frank we will be lost with out him, Matty Fryatt will be a legend, he is unreal. Never gives up and reads the game unbeleavably well, there is something about him i just cant put my finger on. Overall a good game, wolves were plain awful, and there fans, my god i think Crewe made more of a sound then them, i honestly did not hear them sing one song, unless it was the kop where i was sitting drowning it out! Up The Blue Boysssss

[..] You and me obviously wnet to different matches then. I thought Johansson had an okay game defensively. Also, there were plenty of times when they worked the ball down the right hand side.
