Im not sure really. I like Wesolowski a lot, and he will be good, but i dont know who we will have that can do as well as Joey has been doing.

I know theres a lot of hype following his goal on Saturday, but i think hes been one of the better players all year, and just dont know who will fill his boots

He may well have been one of the "better" players this season Mat_j101, but in the greater scheme of things it shouldn't be that hard to replace him. Historically he wouldn't make the top 20 best midfielders this club has had in recent times.

We'll have to buy someone because there's no-one close to his standard coming through the feeder teams and buying a guy of Joey's calibre won't be easy with the money we'll have available. Major problem. Weso can't do it all on his own even if his recovery goes well.

Jees he has had a good season but with a bit of cash it shouldn't be too hard to replace him! He is hardly the second coming of Muzzy Izzet is he?

He is a top half the championship player, no more no less. There will be plenty of those available within our price range. :)

Seriously, what is his calibre?

He is nowhere near a premiership player and there are LOADS of better players in the Championship. I repeat, a top half of the championship player is very replacable if we look hard enough.

Couldn't agree more Trev. Didn't see many Premier clubs rush for his services to take him back to where he struggled in the first place. I suggest that any reasonable player would look half decent in a side three quarters of the way down the Championship. And that's not to belittle his contribution this season.

So how come we haven't got two or three more midfielders of the same standard if they're so easy to find?

Wesolowski is an 18 year old and he completely outclassed him in the games they played with each other. Williams and Hughes have both completely under performed for city but have as much if not more ability than Joey.

People forget what a muppet Joey was last season.

I haven't forgot, he was rubbish last season.

Hughes could turn out to be brilliant for us yet and so could Williams if he can be bothered to move his little toe.

Joey certainly didn't perform anywhere close to his potential last season but I think it owuld be harsh to say he was 'useless'.

In regard to replacing him, yes, I think Wesolowski can more than adequately fill his shoes.

I don't think we'll be able to find somebody who can shoot as well as Joey.

People say Hughes and Williams could be brilliant for us, but I don't think they are anywhere near as good as Joey. If you compare what Joey does and what Hughes and Williams do when they are playing, Joey gets far more involved in the play and has been at the heart of most of our good play. He has been our most creative player in terms of assists this season, and also contributed 9 goals from midfield which is a incredible total. Williams and Hughes wouldn't get that many between them.

I doubt we'll get a player of the same quality as Gudjonsson for free, which is essentially what we have to do because we won't have any money to spend.

But he could be a prolific goalscoring midfielder. Fans underestimate what an art long range shooting is. Frank Lampard enjoys the highest annual club contract in the world because of his shooting ability.

Now that Joey has scored from inside his own half he'll soon be knocking them in from inside his own box.

I still believe if his first touch isn't a cracking shot, it goes astray... his mid distance passing is also really bad!! Not too good at tackling either.... Hmmm certainly irreplaceable!!

Weso is not an option just now. And the two of them complimented each other rather than one outclassing the other. He may prove me wrong but I don't see Weso as a goalscorer. Joey will be player of the year this season, or at least close. And talking about what he did last season matters not. That's like me saying I'm not too struck on Gerrbrand and that nothing's going to change my mind. Gerrbrand can change my mind any day. Good luck to him.

Or Kisnorbo.

I've slated Kisnorbo as a midfielder but as a centre-back, different player. People change, improve, get over injuries, are given different roles. You cannot use last season to to judge a player today. At least I wouldn't.

That's one of the reasons people get selected by a manager and then get dropped. Form changes.

I think people should bare in mind that Wesolowski is coming back from a second serious injury in only a short space of time and could seriously affect him as a player. Ok he has age on his side but is it right to rest all our hopes on him to lead our team to success next season?

I was listening to the Century phone in last night and Birch made a good suggestion, Cavana at Wigan. (Sorry if I've spelt that incorrectly) Apparently he is not getting many games right now and might want a move at the end of the season. Ambitious I know but a proven quality player at this level and his experience in our young side could do wonders I feel.

Kavanagh is an excellent player for this division and with the million they owe us we might get a bit of change!

Has a decent strike rate in this league for a midfielder, my only worry is that he may be going in the opposite direction to the sort of players we should be signing.

I doubt Graham Kavanagh would move but if he did he would be an excellent signing.

Maybe get someone like Neil Danns if Colchester fail to make Promotion.

Historically we have barely been in a worse state financially.

Historically we have rarely been so poor on the field.

I think it will be bloody hard to replace him with 0 to spend.

The million is paying off the money we lost because of low attendances!!!!

We won't have anything to spend!!!!!!

How many of his goals have been penalties? Its not as if the team loses out on those goals if he doesn't take them.

I think fans completely OVER RATE the value fo long range shooting particuarly form an average player like Gudjohnson. Well over 90% of his long rangers go in row Z and ruin potentially prosperous attacks. Most fans are willing to over look all this if he scores one freak goal from the half way line.

I really don't want to make it soudn like I am ona massive downer about Joey. He has worked really hard this season and actually learnt how to pass the ball (his through ball to Hume is something he simply wasn't capable of last season) and as a result been our most consistent midfield player. I just think the idea that a player witha bad first touch, average passing, no athleticism and who can't tackle is anythign but irreplacable despite his numerous positive qualities.

Good season he has had, but he still give the ball away too much!

One thing he does do is cover alot of ground.

He will be missed, i think he might be regreting leaving to be honest!

A 4 year contract playing in the Dutch first division, plus the chance for European football next season (and possibly beyond) is not something he'd regret. He may be sad to leave Leicester but this move is a big step up in career terms for Gudjonsson.

As Babylon said, we will find it very difficult to replace Joey for 0 - irrespective of his apparent flaws.

With the transfer market as it is there must be plenty of out of contract players out there with Joey's ability. After all, he cost us nothing!!!
