Daggers Posted 31 May 2006 Posted 31 May 2006 Ranked 5th in the world ...because they play Venezuela five times a year
placidcasual Posted 31 May 2006 Posted 31 May 2006 ...because they play Venezuela five times a year Slightly inaccurate. Try Jamaica.
BartonFox Posted 31 May 2006 Author Posted 31 May 2006 The group is wide open...Ghana just destroyed Jamaica and if I remember correctly, the US had a tough time with Jamaica during qualifying. I wouldn't be surprised if they finished last in the group, but I do believe they have the quality to finish first. The only team that gave the Yanks a tough time in qualifying were Mexico when they lost 2-1 in Mexico City, Jamaica are bloody woeful, wait until Saturday. There seems to be a presumption that Italy and the Czech Republic will both walk the group in the 2 spaces. Italy struggled to take 4 points of Scotland, had Kenny Miller the ability to shoot then they'd have been lucky to have 2, let alone the fact they struggled against the might of Belarus as well. The Czech team are has-beens.
BartonFox Posted 31 May 2006 Author Posted 31 May 2006 ...because they play Venezuela five times a year Ignorance is bliss, eh? <_<
Strokes Posted 31 May 2006 Posted 31 May 2006 I think the U.S will do well, but i think there are quite a few potential suprise packages out there, the swiss look good, mexico are a good side that many will underestimate and then there is the African sides as well. We are in for an exciting World Cup this year.

The Czech team are has-beens. I think you're forgetting the away match against Jamaica, where Brian Ching had to score a late goal in order to earn a draw. The US were simply terrible that day and deserved to lose. I'm pretty much convinced that I will never see the US win a match in Mexico City during my lifetime.
Jordan Posted 31 May 2006 Posted 31 May 2006 If "Bruce Arena's Star Spangled Army" use the World Cup to make a strong anti-war stand, perhaps by wearing "Stop Wars" T-Shirts like Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody wore in the Spitting Games video, or by booing their own national anthem, or by refusing to play at all, if they did anything like that then I'd have more respect for them. As it is, I hope that they go out as soon and as humiliatingly as possible. I'll make sure the U.S. does all that stuff above if you can convince the FA to do the same thing with the English national team. Deal?
The People's Hero Posted 31 May 2006 Posted 31 May 2006 I think that one day the Americans may actually surprise us all. I mean, think about it. They have potentially the largest pool of talent to choose from in the world. So it would not be surprising to see them have a really strong squad. I think that it would only be fair if each of the states had to qualify then the qualifying states could submit players ROFL. Yeah but 85% of them are hugely obese!
Sigma Posted 31 May 2006 Posted 31 May 2006 The Czech team are has-beens. The Czechs will beat the Americans 2-0.
Jordan Posted 31 May 2006 Posted 31 May 2006 Yeah but that still leaves about 42,000,000 non-obese people from which to choose

BartonFox Posted 31 May 2006 Author Posted 31 May 2006 ...and then consider the fast-growing Latino population of the U.S., and what do they love? Futbol. How dare you come in with such facts and blow the sheltered views of the small minded English football fan out the water.
Lemon Harpic Posted 31 May 2006 Posted 31 May 2006 How dare you come in with such facts and blow the sheltered views of the small minded English football fan out the water. Luckily for the rest of the world, racism is endemic in US soccer. According to this music journalist. Brazil might not have to start quaking in their boots just yet.
Lemon Harpic Posted 31 May 2006 Posted 31 May 2006 I'll make sure the U.S. does all that stuff above if you can convince the FA to do the same thing with the English national team. Deal? Although we are both partners in the Iraq war, the USA has far more blood on her hands than Great Britain. It is very rare to see anyone over here with 'Support Our Troops' stickers on their bumpers. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen one. The need to educate Americans is far greater than the need to educate the British. Very few Brits are brain-dead enough to believe that Saddam Hussein was linked to 9/11, or that he had WMDs. There are a handful of morons in this country who still believe that the war was about protecting the human rights of the Iraqi people, but the situation is far worse across the pond. It's an important distinction. It's no coincidence that the very worst cases of torture and abuse, the most cowardly and bloodthirsty massacres in the war have all come from US troops. Their behaviour is a reflection of the attitudes of your idiot countrymen. It is important that 'Team England' make a stand against the war, I agree, but it is absolutely imperative that the anti-war message reaches the halfwits who inhabit your country, as they are the people causing most damage.
Jordan Posted 31 May 2006 Posted 31 May 2006 Luckily for the rest of the world, racism is endemic in US soccer. According to this music journalist. Brazil might not have to start quaking in their boots just yet. That's more of a reflection of American demographics in general, although it's true that there is far more racism in my country than many of my fellow Americans want to believe. With that being said, however, one thing that makes me love this current U.S. National Team is the diversity of its players. You won't find an Onyewu, a Ching, a McBride and a Mastroeni playing side-by-side on pretty much any American national team (nor most national teams in any sport). t's an important distinction... It is important that 'Team England' make a stand against the war, I agree, but it is absolutely imperative that the anti-war message reaches the halfwits who inhabit your country, as they are the people causing most damage. It is a distinction worth making, but how much weaker would the United States' case for war been if its biggest ally had opposed my government's actions? And right now, while there are many, many people who simply don't get what's going on in Iraq, polls show that just over a third of my fellow Americans approve of President Bush's performance, more Americans than ever before disagree with the Iraq war (and a good portion of those who do support it do so more so that Iraq doesn't descend into further anarchy, or worse yet, become another Iran). The burden of englightening the public about the Iraq war shouldn't fall on the shoulders of a soccer team--they shouldn't politicize the World Cup, but rather make new fans with good play and strong team spirit. It should rather be taken by our irresponsible media. The differences in coverage of Gulf War II from the BBC and American cable news coverage is astounding. I don't mean to take this thread off topic but I've gotta stick up for my squad. Anyway, my brother is a socialist and that hasn't stopped him from supporting our national soccer team--it's the only one we've got, after all. And the secretary general of the Socialist Party USA is also a big soccer fan and will be pulling for the U.S. national team to make a big splash in Germany this summer and for the U.S. military to leave Iraq at the same time.

Why do you hate Iran so much? Aside from the fact that they've started to sell their oil in Euros rather than dollars?
Stevosevic Posted 3 June 2006 Posted 3 June 2006 The USA will not do anything in the world cup. As for their fans, they are all obese and just sit there, its comical.

Jay Posted 4 June 2006 Posted 4 June 2006 That's a little harsh, isn't it? first thing that comes up in Google Images!!! I am sure most people in America have stereotypical views of the English as well!!
