The Stig Posted 8 June 2006 Posted 8 June 2006 I know most people will be watching on bbc as theres no ads and they have linnikar the legend, but i actually quite like itv, i think steve rider is quite good, and i prefer clive tyldley to john motson any day, im going to watch the bbc coverage and itv commentary, what is everyone esle going to do

Nationwider Posted 8 June 2006 Posted 8 June 2006 I'm just going to watch as much as I can on every channel as it's a month of free football. I can live with just about all the commentators on either side. Its the presenters and pundits that make or break the coverage for me. ITV getting "Smooth" Steve Ryder is a big coup - him and the girl Logan will make a formidable presenting partnership. Retaining Jim Rosenthal is less good, although he has that reassuring well-worn pair of trainers feel to him. He's not very "football" though, is he? ITV's sofa is packed with quality: El Tel, Pearce, Southgate, Earle, Big Sam, NO GAZZA, Jay-Jay and Jimmy-Floyd. BBC's line-up is solid - Lineker, Stubbs and Chiles are hardened pros, although they lack the glamour of ITV's heavy hitters. No doubt Gary's script writers will be hard at work on all the one-liners and puns about Togo, Paraguay etc. BBC's sofa is more shaky. Hansen, Lawro and Dixon are always the first names on the teamsheet, but then it falls apart a bit. Shearer is dull, and I can hardly see Desailly and Leonardo setting the sofa alight (unless Marcel drops his doobie down the back of the Chesterfield during Togo-Angola). Much will be needed from the unpredictable Wright (always good value for England games) and Strachan. No MON listed on the BBC website though, which is a disappointment. I hope he makes the trip.

The Beeb just seems to have a depth and quality that ITV lack. But as said before, I'll watch both 'cos its football and its not on sky. The FA will brick it if MON is on anywhere, he'll be asked the question and he'll give his answer.
