Thracian Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 What does everyone think England should do in their last match?. Take a day off - or try to get Owen/Rooney fitter and our team looking more cohesive and threatening?
Mark Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 Owen's done nothing to deserve another start. I say we give Walcott a start with Crouch, seeing as we've taken him he may as well get a game now if Sven has any plans to let him play any part in the knockout stages. Start Lennon on the right wing - in place of Beckham and really go and attack Sweden. Bring Rooney on for Crouch/Walcott in the 2nd half depending on how they've performed.
Nationwider Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 Take a look at Carrick in central midfield? The Gerrard-Lampard axis still isn't firing. If one has to make way, its obviously Lampard. I don't think Owen's going to be fully match fit and match sharp at all during this tournament. He's barely played this year, after all. Crouch and Rooney? Carrick and Lampard? I don't know, to be honest. Sweden's a nuisance game now. Can't we just give Stearman and Fryatt a run out?
stez Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 robinson neville(if fit) terry ferdinand a.cole beckham carrick gerrard j.cole crouch owen then bring lennon, rooney and a.n other on later when the swedes and owen are getting tired. sorry but lampard isn't earning his place. beckham is only in my side because, as captain, he won't be dropped his dead balls were mostly woeful today. looking ahead to the euro qualifiers: robinson johnson terry © ferdinand a.cole lennon carrick gerrard downing crouch rooney
Anish Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 Crouch missed a hell of a lot of chances today, which is conveniently forgotten because he finally scored. That missed chance in the first half was abysmal and the time when he tried to flick it up and then try a bicylce kick was embarrassing. I think we should stick with Owen and Crouch though, Rooney wasn't great when he came on (besides the first 5 minutes) and I don't want Walcott in the team. Carrick should play and Lampard dropped, we would look much more balanced and it would raise Gerrard's level of performance no end. Beckham should be given strict instructions to stay wide because we can't afford 2 wide midfielders drifting inside all the time and therefore restricting our play.
BartonFox Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 England need to get a result in the final game to ensure they don't face Germany, they can't go messing about and being cocky. After 2 games it is hard to see how England will get past round 2.

Germany could end up finishing 2nd in their group, so if they are to avoid the Germans England will need to drop some points against Sweden.
Thracian Posted 15 June 2006 Author Posted 15 June 2006 Becks was pretty closely marked until Lennon came on and seemed to have no answer. As you say his crossing, and his free kicks were awful. But T&T couldn't cope with the two wide men and Beckham's cross for the vital goal was still a match winner as was Crouch's goal once more. The consequence of playing two wide attackers will give Swen a lot of food for thought and certainly another important option.
Bert Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 We're through now, so why run the risk of getting our bigger stars injured. Leave Rooney, Terry, Lampard, Gerrard and on the bench, Start Walcot and Crouch, 'cos c'mon what's Owen done so far? We can play Beckham(Jenas if we need to rest Becks to) and Carrick in the middle, with J Cole and Lennon on the wings, both of the latter have enough ability to beat there man one on one and then lay a ball off and create an opening. Just my opinion on this matter.
moseeds Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 I hate crouch. Can you imagine...the brazillian line up is announced, the the english...number 11...Peter Crouch....its a national embarrasment..the queen should intervene on behalf of the nation...high treason for claiming to be a striker! And I hate sven. No one can give him any credit for this victory against T&T. none. Not even a tiny bit. There got it all off me chest. Cmonnnnn england!!
Benji Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 I'll wait for tonights game, if we are guarenteed top after tonights game i'll be more experimental

Suffolk_fox Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 Germany could end up finishing 2nd in their group, so if they are to avoid the Germans England will need to drop some points against Sweden. I would rather face Germany than Ecuador to be honest. I think we can take the Germans, they are very vulnerable in defence and likely to fold under the attentions of Rooney, Lennon and Giraffe Boy and Beckham. BTW, have you noticed the similarity between Crouchy and Munch from 'Two Pints'???
SystonFox Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 we need atleast a draw on tues. i think we'll beat them 3-1
Bert Posted 15 June 2006 Posted 15 June 2006 I don't care who we get, if we want to win the world cup we're gonna have to play the big teams at one point. If we do get Germany and beat them teams will be scared of us.
Jay Posted 16 June 2006 Posted 16 June 2006 I would... Drop Beckham although he puts in the odd good cross he has no pace, can't beat the last defender and doesn't stretch the defence anymore and to keep Beckham in the side you have to ruin the game of the 2 best midfielders in the world!!! And I simply don't think he is as good as either of them anymore, IMO we would have a better team and create more chances with him out of the side Move Gerrard to the right wing a position he is used to playing for Liverpool Bring in Carrick as a holding midfielder to sit, wait and let others play their natural game keep Cole on the left upfront has to be Owen and Rooney with big Crouchey to come on after 70minutes BUT as Beckham has to start and HAS to be Captain as a requirement of the sponsors this is never going to happen
