Bert Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 Nice sig DCB. I slept through all but 4 of the thunder claps, and my area of estasblishment wasn't affected
Rincewind Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 Strangely I wasn't affected. My PC did restart this morning when the storm was around but my other electrical stuff was OK.
billabob Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 well we had it in Northampton area and our work was shut for about an hour whilst we all just sat around eating the stock, loved it!
Daggers Posted 5 July 2006 Posted 5 July 2006 Nice sig DCB. No storm, no rain, no power outs and no respite from this oppressive humidity...Birmingham sucks!
Katy Posted 6 July 2006 Posted 6 July 2006 No storm, no rain, no power outs and no respite from this oppressive humidity...Birmingham sucks! It does indeed as does my bit of Lincolnshire, it threatened to thunder and that but it couldn't be arsed in the end. Just had a bit of rain that's all

davieG Posted 6 July 2006 Posted 6 July 2006 Just got back from town, have you ever jumped into swimming pool fully clothed and then got straight out and driven a car. Well I certainly feel like that's what I've just done.
The Don Posted 6 July 2006 Posted 6 July 2006 Just got back from town, have you ever jumped into swimming pool fully clothed and then got straight out and driven a car. Well I certainly feel like that's what I've just done. No, but I might try it next time I go swimming - a lot easier than losing your locker key and heving to swim round for hours trying to find it
MC Prussian Posted 6 July 2006 Posted 6 July 2006 No power cuts here as far as I know, only a few heavy rumbles in the sky in the evening. TV went out for a second, but came right back. Went to bed and read some magazines during the most thunderous phase, only to come back and watch Portugal vs. France slightly after 9pm local time.
Collymore Posted 6 July 2006 Posted 6 July 2006 Just heard that the roof collapsed in hinckley Asda and JCC (college) flooded and everyone went home!
Daggers Posted 6 July 2006 Posted 6 July 2006 Holiday plane is hit by lightningA charter flight from Birmingham to Lanzarote had to be diverted to Manchester Airport after it was struck by lightning. The Boeing 757-200 was chartered by Thomas Cook and was carrying 229 passengers from the Midlands airport. It left Birmingham at 0740 BST and landed in Manchester at about 1000 BST after being hit by lightning. Engineers carried out a safety check and the plane was cleared to take off. It is now bound for Arrecife Airport. Patricia Sumner, whose daughter was on the flight, told BBC: "She rang me from her mobile phone to say that they were sitting on the runway at Manchester Airport after being struck by lightning shortly after take-off from Birmingham. "They had been flying in circles to use up the fuel before landing at Manchester Airport. "Passengers were being kept on the plane whilst it was being inspected for damage." Woohoo! Who is going on holidays soon?

Northants Fox Posted 6 July 2006 Posted 6 July 2006 So who was affected? I was going crazy after about 9 hours without electricity. i feel ashamed. BUT one good thing came out of it. i read a 400 page book in 5 hours straight, which i am pretty happy about considering its first book i have read for quite a few years Electricity went off here as well on Tuesday, wasn't off as long as yours was though only an hour an ten mins. Wasn't just in my area ether the whole of Northampton went off, as did Kettering, Wellingborough and a number of Villages. The Lightning did strike a Electricity sub station in a village to the West of my town mind you. There was another big Storm yesterday and parts of Northampton were flooded in flash floods. Can't make the link work
