As yesterday marked the bombing of Hiroshima by your definition this was an act of terrorism.:huh:

Why are you unsure? Hiroshima was an act of terrorism.

It was a civilian target, chosen because it was likely to burn well and thus cause the maximum number of deaths.

I'd label some Israeli action over the past 40 years as acts of terrorism, although I still maintain that the current Israel/Iran conflict has seen a justified response from Israel on Hezbollah. This has unfortunately resulted in civilian casualties. I've noted that the Lebanese Government is now bitching about Israelis being on their soil - no such bitching was heard about the Syrian nationalist presence on their soil...

Yes there was - the Syrians were forced to leave Lebanon last year.

Maybe they'll now be asked to come back..

So no home for the predictable, tedious and often ridiculous left-wing rantings I've come to expect from you?

My predictable, tedious and often ridiculous left-wing rantings would go in the Po-Faced section of General Chat.

In the USA, 50% of people still believe that Iraq had WMDs. That's over 145 million braindead people, a staggering level of ignorance for a supposedly developed nation.

What does this have to do with General Chat? I for one think it's a good thing that we can discuss (if that's alright with you) important world events. We may not have the power to change things and our opinions may seem stupid, but having threads like these encourages people to take an interest in the world around them.

Without stuff like this on General Chat, Britain would turn into a blinkered nation of morons just like AmeriKKKa. But more expensive to live in.

Yeah.. to take the left wing stance, Ipods shouldn't really exist as they are manufactured by a money making organisation which really is a product of the commercial, capital age. Really we should all be growing carrots and helping our neighbours who haven't grown any carrots because they are lazy, despicable layabouts who just smoke drugs all day.

Presumably then, the right wing stance is that carrots shouldn't exist because all the farmers should be producing cheap consumer goods in sweatshops instead?

Officially at least... I doubt Lebanon would tolerate a Zionist presence on their homesoil, so for consistency's sake they shouldn't have been so inactive on rooting out Hezbollah.

The US has many issue's he biggest is integration with the world, many in US have never left there town let alone there state, they have been educated in a very pro US patriotic manner which maybe one of the reasons in accepting thoughts or ideals that are foriegn to them. These people are voters and hence a reason why poeple like BUsh are re-elected. Also there are those that have too much faith in there government and believe in it's patriotic beliefs ie 'as a land of the free, US has a duty to free others'. ANd there are just hose that cannot be bothered and are too enclosed in there own lives to bother with politics (eg trailer trash)!!

Brits are generally more open to others and more tolerant and hence are an envy to the whole world interms of racial equality and it's law\justice system, some argue Britain's tolerance, freedom and good nature etc has been taken advantage by some but I would hate for Britain to follow it's biggest allie and become a nation of ignorants!!!

What this conflict, Israel\Arab has shown is that ignorance and hatred has been the prime thought, without rational thought, and a real foresight in what is correct and humane, the war will continue!!!! Only by discussing and talking with people you will understand that all humans have more in common than differences.

very interesting stuff; galloway at his fighting best :thumbup: still think he's wrong though, both sides being very selective in their argument ;

he made some good points about when the clock starts etc in these issues; i suppose though , one could go back to biblical times as a starting point , but we have to live in the here and now :(

Why do you think that? I think he is one of the few mp's who does have a grasp of the big picture.

The trouble is Moseeds, he only sees what he want's to see. Like it or not, the truth is that Israel only invaded because Hizbollah were rocketing their civilian population. Rather than bringing up the old chestnut of when this all started George should have at least condemned that. By not doing so you have to wonder what his motives are.

Israel's opening of a second front to the north stems from unfinished international business in Lebanon. In September 2004, UN Security Council Resolution 1559 called on foreign forces to withdraw and militias to disband. The Syrians completed the pull-out of their troops in April last year but Hizbollah, with its thousands of fighters and Katyusha rockets, remains the most formidable military presence in the country. Sponsored by Damascus and Teheran, it makes a mockery of Lebanese sovereignty. That one party in the government coalition should have an armed wing operating with foreign support in defiance of central authority is intolerable.

Funny how George quotes United Nations resolutions when in suits him but ignores them when it doesn't!!!

The rest of the world is still waiting to see Israel implement UN Resolutions 242 and 339, nearly FORTY years after they were passed.. :(
