Thracian Posted 22 October 2006 Posted 22 October 2006 Will it make the slightest difference?. He's no chance of a game for him here unless Nils gets injured and even then we'd probably draft in a Brevett on tic or make right footer Maybury dance on his left peg. And there's precious little room on the bench unless they're going to turn it into the longest church pew ever made.

Nice of you to again show your faith in the selection process of our managerial team Thrac
Thracian Posted 22 October 2006 Posted 22 October 2006 Nice of you to again show your faith in the selection process of our managerial team Thrac When kelly took over as manager it was simplicity itself to predict his team but now you'd need to be clairvoyant. But basically he drifts back to the Chosen Men as much as he can, including his own ones signed for this season. Solid, reliable, competitive. hard to beat but the same old weaknesses and limitations.

Call me naive and daft if you must, but have you ever tried expressing any of your concerns to the people who actually matter at the club? I mean, it's ok sounding off on an internet forum about these things, but seriously, if you think your ways would be better, wouldn't it make sense to get in touch with the managerial team. You may think they will not listen to you but surely it'd be worth a shot..

That was apparent when I went to the last Academy home match and has been demonstrated on various occasions before.

Maybe so Thrac, but I reckon you'd have more luck letting them know personally than relying on them having read an internet forum
Louise Posted 29 October 2006 Posted 29 October 2006 Sheehan played 90 minutes in Mansfield's 3-2 away win at Macclesfield. From the match report: Sheehan - 5, got forwards well and put in some good crosses in the second half. Corner delivery was poor.
lcfc_jme Posted 29 October 2006 Posted 29 October 2006 Hardly setting the world alight with a match rating of 5. At least he's getting forward and delivering crosses though - something our right winger hasn't been doing so far this term
Thracian Posted 29 October 2006 Posted 29 October 2006 From what I read from someone who probably wasn't at the match Sheehan scored a 6 and made the equaliser for Mansfield just before their extra time winner. Don't really give a toss - he'llnever make it at Leicester - but that's what was said.
lcfc_jme Posted 29 October 2006 Posted 29 October 2006 Don't really give a toss - he'llnever make it at Leicester Thracian?? Is that you?? Nah seriously have you given up all hope of him actually making it for us one day, and are prepared to see Sheehan go and ply his trade elsewhere?
Thracian Posted 30 October 2006 Posted 30 October 2006 Thracian?? Is that you?? Nah seriously have you given up all hope of him actually making it for us one day, and are prepared to see Sheehan go and ply his trade elsewhere? He's got three big problems.... One is his own inconsistency. He's clearly a cultured footballer but remains flawed defensively and a bit too vulnerable to mistakes for my liking. Secondly Nils has improved his game, certainly for now and would be much harder to dislodge than previously even if he wasn't so well thought of by RK. Third, the Joe Mattock in the wings. He has the makings of an energetic attacker with lots of skill and decent defensive qualities. I'd doubt he's much more than a year away. Sheehan got a couple of bad breaks at Leicester and didn't seem to cope well but his big chance was in the pre-season friendlies and he clearly didn't do enough. As to your last question, no point keeping him if he's not capable of correcting his faults and achieving the consistency needed for Championship football. I just look at other inconsistents getting a place in our team and think of how close he was and how the right mentoring might have made some difference. Who knows if he got that mentoring but didn't have the wisdom or ability to take it?

He has the makings of an energetic attacker with lots of skill and decent defensive qualities. I'd doubt he's much more than a year away. I'd say he was a little inconsistent myself, and he even seems to be showing that a little with his performances/match ratings whilst out on loan as well. We have many players who are inconsistent in our team, and a few players are currently making up for that atm, and so another inconsistent player would damage the balance and consistency we are starting to display. It doesn't look as though he is capable of correcting his faults atm, and he seems content to just remain how he is, and not enhance or further develop his game, and that is going to hamper him as he gets older. He was capable of going pretty far, but his apparent lazyness, as you say, is holding him back Nils has certainly improved his game, and shows signs of wanting to better himself and go further than he is atm, and about time too. He'll be more present than ever in RK's lineup now, and I don't think anybody will dislodge him but for injury and/or suspension So Joe Mattock should be a suitable understudy for Nils come next season?? What if Nils happens to leave, would Mattock be suitable enough to cope with being played regularly in the first-team?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 30 October 2006 Posted 30 October 2006 Mattock's only 16. He's got a long way to go.
lcfc_jme Posted 30 October 2006 Posted 30 October 2006 Mattock's only 16. He's got a long way to go. I know he's only 16 , but Thracian seems to think he'll be ready to play for us next season, as he is, and I quote, " much more than a year away ". I was just interested to see exactly how highly he thought of him. I take it you do not think he'll be ready next season?

Thracian gets a bit carried away sometimes once he gets his favourites.
lcfc_jme Posted 30 October 2006 Posted 30 October 2006 I have faith in him. I know you do. And you aren't often wrong when you strongly back a player (yes I too am now a fan of Gareth McAuley, even if he was an idiot in getting sent off!!) No. We've got a promising bunch of kids at the moment. Thracian gets a bit carried away sometimes once he gets his favourites. Yeah I know Thracian gets carried away when backing the youth players, as seen with his persistent backing of Beaglehole's tactics, Gradel, Porter, Sheehan (up until recently), Odhiamsandwichwithsaladcream, King, and now it seems Mattock. Still in the developmental stage then Fez? I wouldn't know as I don't get to see many academy games...
The People's Hero Posted 30 October 2006 Posted 30 October 2006 I think the likes of King, Gradel and Odihambo would benefit from going out on loan too. Until that happens, I don't think you'll see any of them near the first team unless in the case of having loads of injuries.

What if Nils happens to leave, would Mattock be suitable enough to cope with being played regularly in the first-team? But senior players can be inconsistent. It's youth players who get called "not ready", "inexpereinced" or "not strong enough" as soon as they make a mistake or two. Sheehan, Porter, O'Grady have all have far less leeway than the likes of Nils,. Hughes, Tiatto, Sylla, Low, Johnson and Kenton. And look at the people who got on at Odhiambo. Sure he was a bit nervy but he barely got a proper pass all night yet instead of blaming the passers - who should all have known better, it was Odhimabo's fault for not changing water into wine.

Preferably in the Highland League.
TrickyTrev Posted 30 October 2006 Posted 30 October 2006 So Rob Kelly was right, along with most of the people on this board, and you were wrong? Sheehan isn't the second coming? Suprise.
Thracian Posted 30 October 2006 Posted 30 October 2006 So Rob Kelly was right, along with most of the people on this board, and you were wrong? Sheehan isn't the second coming? Suprise. In what way? Exactly how has anyone been proved "right" or "wrong". This time 12 months ago Sheehan looked an excellent full-back with lots of attacking skills and the ability and enthusiasm to back any attack...and how we've needed that. He was cast aside in no time by Leicester despite some promising first team appearances and appeared to go backwards - a course not helped by having several weeks out with a groin injury. Sheehan played in several of our successful pre-season friendlies and since moving to Mansfield appears to have made at least four goals which is more than Kenton or Nils has done all season to be truthful - in fact it's probably more than Nils managed if you count last season too. So no, I don't think anyone's been proved right or wrong and I don't for a minute think Kelly would like to be right if it means a potentially good career has not blossomed. I imagine he's a better person than that. I'm saying things change very rapidly in football which is why people have to take their chances when they arise. And Mattock to me looks to be a player of outstanding potential so what I think is that if Sheehan expects to progress, he has more likelihood of doing so away from Leicester because Nils is not going to be moved in a hurry however well Sheehan plays and when he does, I am quite sure Mattock will be next in. A least I was until the Mandaric thing arose. If that comes off I imagine most of our kids will have as much chance of progressing through to the first team - as getting a trip on the next moon landing - but we'll see.
Jimmy Posted 30 October 2006 Posted 30 October 2006 A least I was until the Mandaric thing arose. If that comes off I imagine most of our kids will have as much chance of progressing through to the first team - as getting a trip on the next moon landing - but we'll see. the reason Mandaric fell out with harry has been publicly acknowledged that Mandy wanted to make Redknapp use the youth system more rather then the journeymen he kept signing and harry refused so the whole "if Mandaric takes over our youth team will have no chance" is a load of bullshit, if anything our academy will be 1 of the main things which attracts Mandaric and the yanks
