Babylon Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 The problem between younger players and older players because the older ones, particularly at Leicester, seem to have their own self-protection arrangements. What the hell are you talking about? So Stearman, O'grady, Wesolowski and Porter have all had problems ousting older players have they!!! changes will have to occur for Sheehan to break through. Those changes will inevitably mean that Leicester really will have to focus on fielding a young side. Because our team is so old at the minute... if we focus on a much youger team we might as well just enter an under 15's league.
Thracian Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 I hope the Board are aware of the situation too and have questions to ask about why such a potentially good player has for some reason failed to be given a proper opportunity - especially if it's for reasons suggested elsewhere by Bruin. If Leicester were spoilt for left-backs it might not matter much but we're not. People talk about giving the manager time but what time has Sheehan had? I cannot emphasise enough, Sheehan still has flaws as a left back - as do present incumbents - but put him with a footballing team of near contemporaries and he really can and does make a significant contribution...as Peter Shirtliff obviously thinks and whoever made him captain of the reserves. Furthermore he has already performed perfectly well in first team league and cup fixtures so having his path apparently blocked at this late stage of his development seems to make no sense at all. But we'll see what happens during and after the months loan when Sheehan has the perfect opportunity to state his case and Leicester, I hope, will be sensible enough to think again.

You're asking too much of our Board of Directors.
Stuliasz Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 I think it's a pretty good move to send him out for now. Quite a few of our youngsters seem to have benefited in the past from loan spells so I think it does more good than harm at the moment. Would like to see him given a run in our first team at some point depending on our league situation towards the end of the season though.

Stearman had quite a battle with Maybury and even then Maybury wasn't dropped but accomodated in a position totally unsuited to him, O'Grady doesn't compete with an older player, Wesolowski has by no means outsted either Hughes, Williams or Johnson and Porter is battling with Tiatto. Leave Kenton and Johnson because it's too soon to judge their performances over a period of time but, otherwise, name me an older player who really does his full job consistently well on a regular basis. There's Nils, Tiatto, Williams and Hughes to consider.

If it's to early to judge Kenton on the very good performances he has put it then it's to early to judge Porter and Sheehan on theirs. Without mentioning Sheehans shocker against Crewe, Stearmen, and Hume's (in his case continuing ) poor from at the start of the season, and Fraytts goal drought. We have no players that have proven they will show up week in week out over a long period of time.
Steven Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 I don't know how accurate it reflects his feelings but it defininately comes across to me as someone who's looking for an out, no mention of RK, yet No mention of the more obvious getting fit to earn a place at LCFC or the like. Edited to say I should write quicker or less if I want my posts to be original & topical You will always be original and topical.

Manwell Pablo Posted 8 September 2006 Posted 8 September 2006 Not a line of assessment on any of the players I mentioned. A classic case of avoiding the question. I believe you asked for a name of a older player who performed for us regularly, and I believe I answered you. Seeing as you question wasn't even aimed at me it would of been very easy to avoid had I wished to do so.
Mark Posted 9 September 2006 Posted 9 September 2006 Thought he was absolutely class today. How he can't get in the Leicester team is beyond me. His touch and distribution were pretty much faultless - an excellent debut. link We're keeping a close eye on him so if he carries on like he's started at Mansfield I expect him back after this month, given the never ending problem at left back. <_<

Thracian Posted 9 September 2006 Posted 9 September 2006 It's funny how, judging by the fans response, he seems like his old self again. Someone in our boardroom needs to find out exactly why.
Louise Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 Here's a match report: http://www.stagsnet.net/match/reports/view...&seasonid=7 Sheehan 8 Very accomplished debut, good on the ball and rarely wasted a pass
lookwhaticando Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 Sounds like he's made an impression already. Let's hope our scouts are keeping a proper eye on him.
Gené and Tonic Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 Hopefully he'll come back dfull of confidence, and actually get a chance.
Nationwider Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 Good, winning start for Al. Sounds like Dawson's playing well too. Can't we enter a reserve team in League Two?
Babylon Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 Stearman had quite a battle with Maybury and even then Maybury wasn't dropped but accomodated in a position totally unsuited to him, O'Grady doesn't compete with an older player, Wesolowski has by no means outsted either Hughes, Williams or Johnson and Porter is battling with Tiatto. There's Nils, Tiatto, Williams and Hughes to consider. Yes Stearman had a battle, because when Maybury first arrived he was bloody good and Stearman was only just coming through the ranks. Facts are Stearman is now ahead of Maybury, whether Maybury played in another position is completely irrelevant. O'grady doesn't compete with an older player? So Deep Freeze, Hume and Elvis aren't older than him? O'Grady has displaced the lot of them who were 6 months ago all ahead of him in the pecking order. Wesolowski WILL displace one of the players you mention.... you know it and I know it. The guy has had two broken legs and a few other injuries. When he is fully fit he has started games. Porter has for the moment displaced Tiatto, yesterdays game shows that. You say that it's jobs for the boys and older players can't be displaced. The facts are only Nils comes under that bracket because you think Sheehan is gods gift. What other older players do we have for gods sake??? Yes the midfield two aren't great, but we don't have any other fully fit options!!!!!! Maybe you could have a case for Low to be in that bracket, be he has only played 6 league games. If gradel came in and everyone wrote him off you'd soon has something to say about it.
Babylon Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 It's funny how, judging by the fans response, he seems like his old self again. Someone in our boardroom needs to find out exactly why. HE'S PLAYING IN DIVISION FOUR!!!!!!! Lets not go over the top.
lcfc_jme Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 At least he's playing now, which will do him the world of good when (or indeed if) he comes back to play for us.
Thracian Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 HE'S PLAYING IN DIVISION FOUR!!!!!!! Lets not go over the top. That's the only place he's got the chance to play but it's not where he plays but how he plays that is so important to Leicester. I can rarely remember a game he's played in when our team has not scored. And usually more than one. Including the first team and first team friendlies.

Seem to have made a point of pointing that out myself. Seeing as you're pretty in the know, will he be coming back at the end of his loan spell, or will it turn into a permanent deal??
Louise Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 League Two 'Team Of The Week': Manager: David Hodgson Adolfo Baines-Pilart (MK Dons) Dan Martin (Notts County) Alan Sheehan (Mansfield) Gary Liddle (Hartlepool) Matty Robson (Hartlepool) Joanthon D'Lareya (Mansfield) Sam Igoe (Bristol Rovers) Stefan Oakes (Wycombe) Paul Evans (Swindon) Jamie Ward (Torquay) Julian Joachim (Darlington)

Seeing as you're pretty in the know, will he be coming back at the end of his loan spell, or will it turn into a permanent deal?? I think you're confusing Thrac - a loyal follower of the Academy players - with someone who's actually 'in the know' as far as club operations go. There's been no indication that the loan move is intended to pave the way for a permanent move, though.

Seeing as you're pretty in the know, will he be coming back at the end of his loan spell, or will it turn into a permanent deal?? I think he'll want to come back - if he's going to get a proper chance. Yes Dawson is a big pal and he rates the Mansfield boss but Sheehan's mostly frustrated because he thinks he's been denied any chance to have and to keep the left-back shirt. I cannot seriously believe our directors will want to lose him. Mansfield fans already think we're nuts and the word they seem to use is "class" which he is given the chance. Not faultless, not the finished article but potentially everything you could want from an attacking left-back.
