lcfc_jme Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 I think you're confusing Thrac - a loyal follower of the Academy players - with someone who's actually 'in the know' as far as club operations go. There's been no indication that the loan move is intended to pave the way for a permanent move, though. Ahh that I may well be doing. Just thought Thrac may have known the ins and outs of the deal seeing as he is such a close follower of the younger players at the club. Its good to know that the deal isn't directly made to give Mansfield the option of purchasing Sheehan full-time when his loan ends then - we'll have him back match-fit and sharp as ever Thanks also for that Thrac, helping to try and clarify the situation. I don't see anything wrong in giving him a chance to keep the left-back slot when he returns from his loan, it'd probably give the older men a wake-up call and give him more confidence anyway, making him a happy member of the squad. He couldn't possibly do any worse than what is already there anyway.
Thracian Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 Just a few comments from Mansfield and posted on TB: Sheehan played 88 minutes in Mansfield's 4-1 win over Hereford. Stags fans said: Quote: Thought he was absolutely class today. How he can't get in the Leicester team is beyond me. Quote: His touch and distribution were pretty much faultless - an excellent debut. Quote: Sheehan 8 Very accomplished debut, good on the ball and rarely wasted a pass Leigh is online now Reply With Quote

Seems to be an instant fans' favourite over there, and by the sounds of things, he is a much better prospect for our side than Nils and co. playing on the left. Big mistake to get rid of him if he can continue that form and get those sorts of reviews
Babylon Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 Well well. Big mistake to get rid of him if he can continue that form and get those sorts of reviews Once again IT'S DIVISION FOUR!!!!!! I don't understand why people instantly go over the top. It's great he's getting first team football and playing well, it can only benefit him and the club in the long run like it did with O'Grady. But... the standard of football is woeful in that division. People would think we were mad if we gave them Elvis for a month as he would be better than anything else down there. It pretty much sums it up when Julian Joachim and Stefan Oakes are also in the team of the week.
Babylon Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 That's the only place he's got the chance to play but it's not where he plays but how he plays that is so important to Leicester. Yes I know that thankyou... that wasn't my point. My point is people going over the top when it is one game in division 4.

I understand you being so negative about it, but, although the standard of football isn't as great down there as it is in the Championship (did I just say that?!?! ), Sheehan is being given match-practice, he'll be match-fit and sharp when he returns. Not to mention he hasn't played competetively for a while and he is able to come straight in and do a job. I think it's a good thing all round regardless.

I'm not being negative i'm being realistic, there is a big difference. Sheehan is being given match-practice, he'll be match-fit and sharp when he returns. I couldn't agree more.
lookwhaticando Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 I think the point here is, Sheehan has gone out on loan to let Joe Mattock burst onto the scene and claim the LB place. Upon Sheehan's return we will have two world class left-backs, thus solving the most problematic position of the last few seasons. It's pure genius. Kudos to the management.

There is a big difference and I've agreed with you on that front, it's just that your version of realistic is a little different to mine and comes across as a bit more negative than the way I'm choosing to view it, which I understand also. At least we agree on something though . He'll have a lot of confidence when he gets back and he'll be looking to force his way into the side, especially with him being sharp enough to handle match situations. I don't think the small step-up in class will even affect him too much tbh, take him around 25-30 mins of getting used to
Fez of Mahrez Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 Definitely a good point Babylon makes about Elvis looking like a world-beater in that league. Let's not forget also that McAuley and Low both played in that league last season. Read into that what you will. I hope he comes back and competes for a first-team place but it's redundant getting arsey about him playing well for Mansfield when he could be in the first team here. Better just to keep an eye on what their fans think of him while he's there and then re-assess the situation if and when he returns. Let's also remember that NEJ is off to the upper echelons of the Premiership in the summer when his contract expires and perhaps if Sheehan shows a good attitude at Mansfield then there will be a starting place for him to make his own next season. Just a thought.
Thracian Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 Yes I know that thankyou... that wasn't my point. My point is people going over the top when it is one game in division 4. Almost everyone else has wanted him to play other more meaningful games. It is only RK who hasn't allowed it to happen and who has seemingly allowed the lad to lose match fitness, if he ever got it. So how the hell he can play well anywhere but Mansfield is beyond me. The real point is that the manager and players you implicitly defend have taken two points from a possible 18 away from home. They have not won in those matches and have not scored or, in Kelly's case, presided over scoring in over 360 minutes. They are hovering just above the relegation places. The answer is not to change the strikers - who are all capable enough in their ways - it is to make sure we have supporting players (and Sheehan does support) all over the field and that includes defence and midfield. And then to have faith in those players and give them licence to attack the game. In what way is quoting other supporters verbatim a case of "going over the top?". I'm happy to praise anyone who does well including, for instance, Nils and Henderson for Saturday's efforts.

Just a thought. We cannot afford to wait until next season to get our team blending properly. You've only got to look at the League table and the goalscoring statistics to know that. McAuley's hardly likely to make the transition from lower to higher grade if he doesn't play - and doesn'teven get a chance to keep himself fit in reserves fixtures and Low would seem to have played as well for us as he did for Northampton from what I gather because he was always a bit inconsistent. What'smore he's having to defend as much as attack when we're away and that is something that has neutralised all our recent wingers.
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 September 2006 Posted 11 September 2006 Very good start for Sheehan. By the sounds of it he's playing the type of football he was a year ago. Fair enough it's not quite the same level, buy you can't do any better then making the League Two team of the week, I'm not sure Nisse would of managed that! Month of this he will be back and pushing for a place.
lookwhaticando Posted 11 September 2006 Posted 11 September 2006 The world's gone mad, there's some praise for Sheehan! Another convert? Still, hope he does well at Mansfield, and hope the intention is indeed to bring him back in good form for our own first team purposes.

Like wise when he deserves a slateing he will recieve it.

Louise Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 Sheehan played 90 minutes in a 2-0 away defeat to Hartlepool tonight. Match report: http://www.stagsnet.net/match/reports/view...&seasonid=7 Sheehan 7 Again showed his class with several vital interceptions.

Louise Posted 16 September 2006 Posted 16 September 2006 Sheehan played 90 minutes in a 1-0 away defeat to Torquay yesterday. Also it was his 20th Birthday on Thursday, so Happy Birthday to him.
Manwell Pablo Posted 23 September 2006 Posted 23 September 2006 Well he didn't make the team today, came on as a sub and missed a penalty earning a Match Rating from Stagsnet of 5/10. Quick lets get him back. However in his defense the idoits did play him a centre half I do like this quote though The on-loan defender stepped forward and his low left footed kick was well saved by Dunbavin. Field Mill was stunned. It was a fine save by the keeper, but it was not a convincing penalty by a supposed dead-ball specialist.

Louise Posted 26 September 2006 Posted 26 September 2006 Sheehan played 88 minutes in a 1-0 home win over Darlington tonight.
Foxes_Trust Posted 26 September 2006 Posted 26 September 2006 We will have a report from the Mansfield Trust about Sheehan's progress while on loan on our website in the not to distance future
Manwell Pablo Posted 26 September 2006 Posted 26 September 2006 Sheehan played 88 minutes in a 1-0 home win over Darlington tonight. Strange...they played Jelleyman and Sheehan in the same game, and they bought on John Mullins for Shehan who I have always thought was a right back...correct me if I am wrong. Concerning, surely we sent him there to enhance his skills as a Left Back not as a random utility man. Looking at it he may of played Left Back, and Jelleyman in midfield, actully who cares why I am posting this rubbish.

Looking at it he may of played Left Back, and Jelleyman in midfield, actully who cares why I am posting this rubbish. I'm sure Sheehan played centre-back in a previous Mansfield match. He has certainly played at centre-back for City Reserves around the time Kisnorbo arrived. From BBC Sport: Mansfield earned a first win in five games thanks to Danny Reet's winner against Darlington at Field Mill. Reet struck just before the hour mark after controlling Alan Sheehan's pass and drilling the ball past Sam Russell. Mansfield keeper Jason White had earlier saved from Julian Joachim as in-form Darlington pressed forward. In stoppage time White rescued his side with a superb save to keep out Ville Vaisanen's header and then Gaetano Giallanza fired over from close range. Mansfield: White, Buxton, Baptiste, Hjelde, Sheehan (Mullins 88), Hamshaw (Lloyd 77), Dawson (Coke 57), D'Laryea, Jelleyman, Barker, Reet. Subs Not Used: Beardsley, Muggleton. Sounds like an important assist wherever he played, although the team list suggests he played left-back.
