Daggers Posted 24 September 2006 Posted 24 September 2006 I like to play a bit of golf now and then - but for the love of God! The entire BBC sports department has ground to a halt because of it...I had to listen to Talk Sport instead yesterday on the drive home. Talk Sport FFS!
Leicester Lass Posted 24 September 2006 Posted 24 September 2006 Im not a big fan of golf either. Alot of people do like it though,ah wel it will be over soon.... <_<
Mort Posted 24 September 2006 Posted 24 September 2006 I'm still wondering how the hell golf can be thought of as a "spectator sport"? Thats not to say I'm against a spot of golf now and again, but as a spectator sport?!?!
lookwhaticando Posted 24 September 2006 Posted 24 September 2006 I mean EVERY sports item it taken over with a really boring golf tournament!! I can't be the only one.... Im not a big fan of golf either. Alot of people do like it though,ah wel it will be over soon.... Translation: me. My Dad's loving it at the moment. I'm not I'm still wondering how the hell golf can be thought of as a "spectator sport"? Thats not to say I'm against a spot of golf now and again, but as a spectator sport?!?! Don't care for golf myself.
Head Honcho Posted 24 September 2006 Posted 24 September 2006 It's not as if you can't get away from it for crying out load! It's 3 days in 2 years not much to ask is it?
City Fan Posted 24 September 2006 Posted 24 September 2006 It's not as if you can't get away from it for crying out load! It's 3 days in 2 years not much to ask is it? That's not true. I turn on Skysports News expecting some good footy news, I get bloody golf. I turn to the back pages of newspapers expecting some good footy news, I get bloody golf. Golf a spectator sport? Jesus christ what is the world coming to....... Worst of all, the Ashes will get the same amount of media attention soon. Who cares about the flippin' ashes? Oooh England finally win a game, lets knight them all. Can't understand why Cricket is a spectator sport either.
shen Posted 24 September 2006 Posted 24 September 2006 I zapped past it today when they started the last day of play, and I was stunned at the roaring reception they got! Well done to those golf fans, even if golf is just about the most boring spectator sport around...
Daggers Posted 24 September 2006 Posted 24 September 2006 Golf is not a sport that translates to radio.
shen Posted 25 September 2006 Posted 25 September 2006 im pretty bored of it now aswell It's already over... since last afternoon
Lester LXXIV Posted 25 September 2006 Posted 25 September 2006 I like any sport that includes beating the yanks!
Suffolk_fox Posted 25 September 2006 Posted 25 September 2006 I like any sport that includes beating the yanks! Now now Foxile, I thought you guys actually preferred the Septics?? This chap from 3 para apparently does... link Oh, and golf sucks
Thracian Posted 25 September 2006 Posted 25 September 2006 Golf is an awesome spectator sport for anyone who genuinely takes an interest - and the television companies wouldn't broadcast it with such enthusiasm if it wasn't.
Suffolk_fox Posted 25 September 2006 Posted 25 September 2006 Dwarf tossing is also an awesome sport for those who geninely take an interest!!! I'd love to know the audience ratings.... Bet even egg chasing world cup beats it...
Daggers Posted 25 September 2006 Posted 25 September 2006 Golf is an awesome spectator sport for anyone who genuinely takes an interest - and the television companies wouldn't broadcast it with such enthusiasm if it wasn't. I agree that it is a spectator sport...but to cram Radio5 with coverage of it? Daft planning.
Shum Posted 25 September 2006 Posted 25 September 2006 I enjoyed watching the Ryder Cup. Beating the Americans is always nice!
Ric Flair Posted 28 September 2006 Posted 28 September 2006 That's not true. I turn on Skysports News expecting some good footy news, I get bloody golf. Can't understand why Cricket is a spectator sport either. So your opinion caters for the whole nation/world on what should be classed as a spectator's sport? Golf is one of the most popular sports in the world. Some people don't like it, fair enough. But a hell of alot of people do.

Golf is one of the most popular sports in the world. Some people don't like it, fair enough. But a hell of alot of people do. Since when did I make out that MY opinion caters for the whole nation? I never said that.......

Can't understand why Cricket is a spectator sport either. I know i couldnt stand the SSN coverage of it. I disagree about Cricket 20/20 is a good spectator sport...there is also a decent atmosphere
Smudge Posted 28 September 2006 Posted 28 September 2006 I'm still wondering how the hell golf can be thought of as a "spectator sport"? Thats not to say I'm against a spot of golf now and again, but as a spectator sport?!?! Errrrrrhum "Yesterday's worldwide TV audience on Ryder Cup Saturday was an estimated one billion as the clash of golf's heavyweights was beamed into 750,000,000 homes in 140 different countries. Hum, indeed. The K Club's daily attendance is a 45,000 sell-out" This has followed The Masters, The British Open and the US Open with massive following. I agree there is more to life than watching golf for 3 or 4 days of it but the final rounds are usually exciting especially when one adds patriotic pride. Anyone who has tried to play the game, can only watch in awe, the skills of these guys.
Milky Posted 28 September 2006 Posted 28 September 2006 in my opinion the vast majority of big live sporting events are worth watching, but hey, i just love sport.
