My Nightmare Experience At Derby

Recommended Posts

Posted

Yesterday was easily the worst footballing experience I've had since I became a City fan in 1993. On the train journey down to Derby from London, Leicester fans were chanting and having a good time. Then the Derby fans got on at Long Eaton and everything started to go wrong from there. I know you'll hear the odd bit of racism around football matches but I was shocked yesterday. Straightaway the Derby fans started to do racist chants. In my 13 years of going to football matches, I've never heard any racism, especially on this level, so that's why I was so annoyed. I'm proud of Leicester's multiculural success and those Derby fans should be ashamed of themselves.

As a result, I was well up for the match and hoping City would get the win. What did I see - a gutless, defensive side trying not to lose against our rivals instead of going for a win. The distribution was awful from defence and we couldn't put two passes together. What is the obsession with playing long ball when we have players who have quality with the ball at their feet? We only turned up for the last 15 minutes. It was an awful game and seeing that poor kid crying his eyes out was a terrible sight. To top it off, we obviously had the goal disallowed controversially late on. The only bright points were Levi's performance and the way we completely out-sung the Derby fans, even when we went 1-0 down. We need to get someone up front who can hold up the ball (Hartson?) and a couple of experienced and 'gifted' midfielders (Bryan Hughes and David Thompson fit the bill).

I haven't been that gutted to lose a match and I thought things couldn't get much worse but as I got a later train back, I sat opposite a couple of Derby fans bragging about the win for a couple of stops.

An absolute nightmare of a day but like any City fan, I am so looking forward to the return match at the Walkers where hopefully we'll get the win.

Someone in authority should find out how that nipper got whacked and by whom. There's been so much mention of him.

An absolute discrace. No matter what the plight of our team or football in general, today there is no room for rascism in sport or the world for that matter and for a kid to get whacked thats shocking and needs sorting.

You never see us play against Leeds or Everton, they were allways particlarly bad!! (and I'm talking about the late 90's!!)

It was the train from London arriving into Derby at 1.56pm. I've heard Everton and Leeds have got a reputation for racist behaviour from their fans but never experienced it 'in your face' like this.

Someone should find out IF any child was assaulted because NO ONE on this forum has so far said THEY saw it.

It is all stuff and nonsense based on the fanciful tales of some impressionable teenagers. No fact.

Posted

Lynching a few policemen and playing the 'big man' ought to solve it all though, right DB?

Why use the official avenues and common sense when overreaction and thuggery is so instantly gratifying?

Posted

Not that this matters because I am one of those "impressionable teenagers", but I heard a grown man on the train saying a young kid had been hit by one of the policemen - which would probably be the kid in the crowd who was crying. He said he didn't know whether or not it was an accident, but he definitely thought a kid had been hit.

We've tried playing the long ball, it didn't work before if I remember correctly in a 4-4-2 formation. We do have players capable of playing the ball on the floor, however they don't seem to be doing this, and we're now desperately lacking in creativity and movement. What I saw yesterday when we switched to 3-4-3 was better than what I have seen with 4-4-2 this season, and so I think it is worth giving 3-4-3 a go just for a game. Couldn't be much worse than our current system.

"...but it's the footy!" they say

"Let them have their little smoke" they say

"Oh stop being such a killjoy DB!" they say

"It's not surprising the atmosphere is going from the game!" they say

"The coppers should have let the kiosk stay open" they say

"I don't even know what the song means, but I defend their right to sing it" they say

"I don't believe in the judicial system (until the nextdoor neighbour has a noisy party" they say

Let's stick to facts?

It wasn't even aimed at you... not everything is about you!

Why so defensive?

A paranoia issue maybe? Or maybe because I have upset/offended so many people on here in the last 12 hours I thought that it would be aimed at me. It just seemed quite like something I have said, but in a chav/gangster version. If it wasn't aimed at me then I apologise for jumping to conclusions.

I know the things in bold I have definitely said. The atmosphere is disappearing from the game, and a majority of people feel the same. The kiosks should have been open at half time, I thought that was just common at football grounds :S I defended their right to sing it as I was pissed off and didn't like what the police did yesterday. I have already mentioned I didn't know who the bloke was and I didn't join in. I'm also now aware that more fans than ours sing it. And about the party thing, the judicial system works for some people and doesn't work for some people.

I saw the lad of about 6 crying all second half and my mate walked up the stairs after ht behind him FACTS!

I live with a lad of six who cries from time to time...doesn't mean he was attacked by over-enthusiastic policemen.

...and as for crying all of the second half: Who can honestly say they don't feel like that for the full 90 minutes at present :P
