Barnsley fans threaten to boycott leicester game

Recommended Posts

What a load of crap I've just read in this thread.

Barnsley fans have every right to complain if they feel they're being ripped off. Away fans have been treated like second-class citizens for some time now. How many posters were up in arms over the alleged treatment of away fans at Derby recently?

I think discounted matches are a load of rubbish. If the club set its basic ticket prices at a sensible level (including season tickets), there wouldn't be any need for these "fans' fixtures". It's just ridiculous that two sets of fans should have to pay different prices to watch the same match.

LCFC's ticketing and marketing baffles me. They seem to chop and change their schemes and prices at the drop of a hat, with no sense of direction or even the slightest understanding of what their "customers" actually want. Which I assume is simply affordable football, and not all the pointless commercial sh*t rammed down our throats?

I think the fact that "we're treated the same" at other grounds is irrelevant. It would be nice if our club took a lead and showed a bit of respect for football fans.

The same goes for some posters in this forum.

I'm with you NW we're all fans of football why are people so disrespectful to other fans. We should be united in our condemnation of the over-comercialising of the game. Not only do we have to suffer from the affects of it we don't even derive any benefits from it.

With all the money coming into the game there is absolutely no justification for these exhorbitant prices. If the clubs had any feelings at all for their paying fans they would set a realisitic maximum fee for any game and then pay the players out of what's left, and that includes cascading some of the money down to the lower leagues.

The whole situation is a piss take and we all sit here either defending it or taking it or totally excluded from it.

Whilst I agree in principle with Nayshe and davieG, my understanding is that when we have had Fans Fixtures in the past, and extended it to the away team (Crewe and Preston spring to mind), it has been because the other side has said that they will reciprocate. And they have. This probably explains the official statement from Barnsley FC itself. However this is pure speculation, and not based on any facts.

Agree entirely. I'd be livid if Barnsley were doing this to us.

It's a shame that the regime, in its last days, is showing all the generosity of Scrooge towards visiting fans.. :(

i couldnt care less how much barnsleh fans pay, or any other fans who come to the walkers. the only cheaper tickets we get away is carling cup (bolton last season prices were good) and rarely students get discount (cov, hull, brum etc).

if they dont fancy coming to watch their team play then so be it. it'll be a right laugh with no away fans im sure.

I agree with nearly every word of that.

My only quibble is with discounted fixtures.

The club should set a maximum price for any game but I understand that, depending on results, there may be a need to boost attendances.

But if it's a fans fixture or if there's some other sort of incentive, the goodwill should be extended to the away fans too in some way.

It's an old fashioned concept but they are our guests - just as the visiting team are our guests - and we should, as you say, take our own initiatives and set our own standards rather than waiting for others to lead.

We should. But like every other club in the land, it's "me, me, me".

Of course, the whole ticket pricing thing in general pisses me off. Why do we pay these prices? Because the players demand a certain level of wages. The whole game needs to be looked at from the very top to the bottom, but it will never get done. Those with the money hold all the trump cards, and they stand too much to lose.

But that's all another argument...

its just how away games are. i mean they shouldn't really be expecting a discount, and to be fair its not often leicester offer good deals for their own fans.

How can you saw that when they are some of the best in the league for doing special offers?

in a sensible world all games should be at the same reasonable price, why should away fans (like ourselves) be charged more if their team is a one with reputation or if they are of lower reputation like colchester. if the home fans are charged a certain low amount for a special offer then so should away fans

lol

Does anyone else think this is really funny? I can imagine the chants in L1 if the away section is empty:

"Shit team, no fans

Shit team, no fans"

:D

I'd have thought it was more likely to be "Small Town near Yorkshire" myself.

I THINK THAT LOADS OF BARNSLEY FANS WILL SIT IN THE HOME STANDS FOR THE CHEAP PRICES.... WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I DO.... WHAT DOES EVERYONE ELSE THINK?

I DONT THINK PEOPLE FROM YORKSHIRE ARE SMART ENOUGH.

I THINK THEY WILL HAVE A PROTEST INSTEAD

I think we should stop writing in capitals... <_<

Narh, sorry, I can't say I agree with you all that much. The club want to make as much money as they can and in our situation we can't complain about that too much. We don't have as much trouble pulling in away support, we have a problem with encouraging our OWN fans to come back and watch a team in shambles. While I, in principal, like the idea we're all football fans and we should all love the game together, football's a business nowadays and the club have to think about this.

The mentality of the targeted Leicester fan is going to be "We're playing shit, it's December, it's freezing, it's BARNSLEY - fock it, I'll take my kids to see Santa." In reverse, the idea is that Barnsley fans should be delighted just to be where they are and will happily fork out for the privilage to come to some Premiership quality ground and potentially take the scalp of an "under-achieving, larger club."

The club aren't out to cater for everyone, they're out to make money. The more City fans they pull in on match day the more shirts they sell, the more hot-dogs they sell, the more hot chocolate they sell, the more money they make, the more City fans they get into the habit of coming back.

I don't like it. You don't like it. But that's capitalism for you. You can argue about the philosophy of it 'til the cows come home, but the Barnsley fans have no grounds to expect Leicester City Football Club to discount tickets to them just because the Club's introduced a scheme to encourage it's OWN fans back into the ground.
