Kilworthfox Posted 24 January 2007 Posted 24 January 2007 Leicester bid for Hawley according to Carlisle's Vital Football site. So 2 days ago we cannot afford £150,000 for a former city favourite, but today we can afford £500,000 for a guy who has a good record in div 4! "Where's all the money come from" New Fanzine?
Brummie-FOX Posted 24 January 2007 Posted 24 January 2007 Leicester bid for Hawley according to Carlisle's Vital Football site. But where has the 500k came from..?
lcfc_jme Posted 24 January 2007 Posted 24 January 2007 Leicester bid for Hawley according to Carlisle's Vital Football site. Aye according to Sky Sports we aren't guaranteed to get him, as the Hawley chase hots up. Norwich and Ipswich are both reportedly ready to make bids for him in an attempt to stop him coming here.
Ajax Treesdown Posted 24 January 2007 Posted 24 January 2007 But where has the 500k came from..? Maybe Mandaric has become the chairman this evening and LCFC will formally announce it tommorrow?? He may have released some funds to Kelly tonight. Hope so.
davieG Posted 24 January 2007 Author Posted 24 January 2007 Karl Hawley - how many times is this rumour going to be posted?
Brummie-FOX Posted 24 January 2007 Posted 24 January 2007 Maybe Mandaric has become the chairman this evening and LCFC will formally announce it tommorrow?? He may have released some funds to Kelly tonight. Hope so. You'd like to think so. Some nutter said the deal was done early last week, but why must they wait 10 days to announce it?
Ajax Treesdown Posted 24 January 2007 Posted 24 January 2007 Karl Hawley - how many times is this rumour going to be posted? If you look on the link, that denial story was older than this 'bid' news.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 24 January 2007 Posted 24 January 2007 Karl Hawley - how many times is this rumour going to be posted? It was only posted on Vital Football an hour and a half or so ago though and it's the first thing I've seen that has us bidding for him.
davieG Posted 24 January 2007 Author Posted 24 January 2007 You'd like to think so. Some nutter said the deal was done early last week, but why must they wait 10 days to announce it? Well there's a done deal and a done deal, maybe it was done in principle last week but they are delaying an official announcement until it's actually all signed, sealed and delivered. The first being a Mercury done deal and the later being the real thing. Or Not!
davieG Posted 24 January 2007 Author Posted 24 January 2007 It was only posted on Vital Football an hour and a half or so ago though and it's the first thing I've seen that has us bidding for him. Fair enough but the same site also posted this early this afternoon: After the news that we reported on Monday of Leicester City being interested in Karl Hawley. Carlisle Manager Neil McDonald has denied the interest from Leicester.McDonald told the News & Star: "That`s very interesting to hear, because I have heard nothing from Leicester and I haven`t spoken to their manager Rob Kelly at all. "I have had a couple of calls from teams in League One and even League Two enquiring about him. "But what I have told them is that we are trying to get him to sign a new contract and, with respect to those clubs, his ambition is to play at a higher level. "I`ve had no calls about him from Premiership or Championship clubs, so this is all speculation and I can`t really comment on that. "This was always going to happen with the transfer deadline coming up and with Karl being out of contract in the summer. "I don`t think the speculation will affect him. I hope it won`t." Mind you if MM's involved I doubt he'd ask the managers

Hawley has been absolute bloody awful through December and January. It'll be a blow for him to leave but considering the poor form he is in and also that he frankly looks totally uninterested I'd take 500k with or without a replacement. Agreed Dave, would rather have £500k than a player who doesn't want to be here. Just wonder if this deal will come off! Leicfox Posted 24 January 2007 Posted 24 January 2007 End of rumour tbh... NEIL McDONALD today insisted he had not taken a single phonecall from Leicester over Karl Hawley – despite rumours linking the Championship side with a £500,000 swoop for Carlisle United’s top scorer. http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/sport/viewart....aspx?id=458411
Brummie-FOX Posted 24 January 2007 Posted 24 January 2007 Quite strange as I thought Mandaric would be keen to add experience to the squad. Players like Sherwood and Sheringham being brought in in Portsmouth's promotion season. The past year and a half we have signed younger, lower-league strikers i.e Fryatt, Hume. If this was Mandaric's decision to ''bid'' for Hawley then it confuses me.. Ive heard good things about Hawley, already having Hume and Fryatt we would have 3 terrific young strikers. Add an experienced striker like Peschisolido who can come on in the second half and make a difference. It'll please me.
Brummie-FOX Posted 24 January 2007 Posted 24 January 2007 I'm sure it will be found on there tomorrow. Seems to be one of the strongest rumours concerning LCFC during the window.. along with Matt Holland. Just e-mailed them saying Karl Hawley and Matt Holland are on their way to Leicester . See if thats approved, eh?
Steven Posted 24 January 2007 Posted 24 January 2007 Karl Hawley - how many times is this rumour going to be posted? At least one more time.
MC Prussian Posted 24 January 2007 Posted 24 January 2007 But where has the 500k came from..? I can do magic... I can do anything that you desire... Du du du du...

davieG Posted 25 January 2007 Author Posted 25 January 2007 Shipperley snubs Foxes moveJan 25 2007 By Stuart Rayner, The Journal Carlisle United have missed out on much-travelled striker Neil Shipperley and are likely to face the former Premiership frontman at the weekend. But manager Neil McDonald is adamant Leicester City have shown no interest in rubbing salt into the wound by bidding for top-scorer Karl Hawley. Geography prevented McDonald landing the former Chelsea, Barnsley, Nottingham Forest, Wimbledon, Crystal Palace and Southampton player, who has been released by Sheffield United. The 32-year-old instead signed a four-month contract with bottom club Brentford, the Cumbrians' League One opponents on Saturday. "It was going to be either Gillingham or Brentford that got him and he's decided to go to Brentford," said McDonald. "I made enquiries about him but was told he wanted to go back down south. His heart was set on that."
Leonisco Posted 25 January 2007 Posted 25 January 2007 From BBC Sport: "NK Gorica's Jani Sturm has pleaded with Kilmarnock not to forget him after financial restraints meant that any transfer had to be put on hold until the playmaker becomes a free agent in the summer. (Daily Record) " This is the guy we tried to sign not long ago but he failed a medical. If he's available for nothing in the summer he's definitely worth a gamble IMO.
bigneville Posted 25 January 2007 Posted 25 January 2007 Just want to know people's opinions.... Ray Parlour has just been released by Middlesbrough. Would he be a good signing??? I know his wage demands might be high, but he's a player with experience and quality. Discuss.....

I know his wage demands might be high, but he's a player with experience and quality. Discuss..... Bastard!!...beat me to it! another Sky Sports news watcher then! Daytime telly is so bad! Anyway, i dont see why not, as long as he is fit and ready to play. We do need a midfielder ASAP, and the Holland rumour seemed to come to nothing. Although, could this not be a certain Andy Johnson mark 2?! if theres any chance of that.....stay well clear my friend!!!!
Geo V Posted 25 January 2007 Posted 25 January 2007 he would be great for us if we could get him, but we have no chance Apparently he is training with Arsenal at the moment to get match fit. To be honest, I havent heard of him for ages and thought he was either injured or had retired. If he is anything as good as he used to be he would be a decent addition to the right side of our midfield.

Jimmy Posted 25 January 2007 Posted 25 January 2007 This is already on two threads at least mate! BTW, MM not turning up may hinder permanent deals but we should be able to get a player or two in on loan surely? you can still make loan deals until the old transfer deadline
