Samilktray Posted 13 April 2010 Posted 13 April 2010 Im gutted the new OS wont be fully compatible with my 3g. Might try and enquire about a cheeky upgrade to the 3gs, doubtful though. O2 now offer unlimited texts though and im really not happy about that as the quivalent of what im paying a month now gets you a far better deal from them.
danielpholt Posted 14 April 2010 Posted 14 April 2010 02 offer unlimited txts? When did this happen? I'm forking out £7 to get the damn bolt on. But i can't wait for July, i can upgrade then so i should be able to get the 4th Gen iPhone on launch day.
Alexikokopops Posted 14 April 2010 Posted 14 April 2010 Turns out I can get 50% off any Vodafone tariff. I could be tempted by the iPhone when I come to upgrade in October.
Samilktray Posted 14 April 2010 Posted 14 April 2010 Well o2 gave me unlimited texts, no hassle either. No 3GS though
dave_the_fox Posted 14 April 2010 Posted 14 April 2010 Well o2 gave me unlimited texts, no hassle either. No 3GS though I "accidently" smashed my 3g a few months ago, as i pay something stupid for insurance they sent me a new one like. a 3GS
Guest Posted 19 April 2010 Posted 19 April 2010 According to Rory Cellan Jones' Twitter, the BBC's tech correspondent, the 4G has been 'found' by somebody on gizmodo http://bit.ly/dCHfOC

Tommeh Posted 20 April 2010 Posted 20 April 2010 Desperate to get rid of my 3G but have a good 11 months to run on the contract. Whilst I still use most things on it, I don't need to, looking at you facebook, Twitter, youtube etc. The only things I'd miss is Maps and Run Keeper. It simply has too much and for the battery life it has deems the whole thing pointless in my opinion. Plus every f ucker roaming the streets has one.
Samilktray Posted 20 April 2010 Posted 20 April 2010 iPhone 4G is gonna be different gravy, from the rumours about it I've read it sounds like its gonna be an incredible bit of gear. Couldnt live without my iPhone now, and I very rarely see many people with them, not that that I'd give a fuck about having the same phone as someone else, not sure why that'd be a problem.

Bit like why people go off bands when they become popular... they are "too cool" to like the same as the masses. My contract was up yesterday on the original 3g model, not bothering to upgrade though. I've just gone onto a month to month sim only contract. 300 mins, unlimited texts and unlimited data and wifi for £20 a month. If I decide to upgrade or anything happens to the phone i'm only on a month to month contract anyway so I can still get a new one.

I'm all for individualism but the iphone is a great piece of kit so I've got no qualms about having what someone else has. To be precise, the upcoming iPhone will technically still be on a 3G network basis - 4G is next-gen and not yet available. So, to complete my smart arse mode, the correct label would be iPhone 4.

My cynical brain thinks that this is just another way (for Apples marketing dept) to build hype before release?... edit: Just seen your cartoon daggers haha!
Jordan Posted 28 April 2010 Posted 28 April 2010 iPhone? What's that? HTC is releasing a phone over here this spring/summer with the Sprint network called the Evo 4G. Sprint is in the process of rolling out its 4G network--I think they've done about a dozen cities so far and New York is expected to get it by the end of the year. So, the Evo 4G will be released, then Apple fanbois all over the world will have a few months to fellate each other while waiting for iPhone 4G, and another year to do the same while waiting for their carriers to upgrade to a 4G network. Either that, or play with their king-sized iPod Touches, I mean, iPads. Thing can't even run Flash (neither will the new iPhone 4G). Evo 4G will have a 4.3" screen, HD support, will support HDMI cable (can record high def video), has two cameras (8mp on back, 1.3 on front--apparently iPhone 4G will but not expected to be as good as the Evo), Android OS (better), can be used as a WiMax hot spot (can connect up to 8 devices to WiFi/3G/4G). Oh, and the kicker--it's got a kickstand , an idea so simple--maybe even too simple--that in hindsight I wonder why I haven't seen that on a big touch-screen smartphone before. Sorry, Apple, you just got beat at your own game. All of the secrecy, the bullshit "lost and found" phone, the lame-ass copyright infringement lawsuit against HTC are all signs that Apple knows it just got one-upped. But I've gotta hand it to them--they know they've got a large enough cult behind them that will buy all of their iProducts. iPhone used to be exclusive to AT&T here, but rumor has it that it will be available on Verizon and Sprint by the end of 2011. AT&T was making kick-ass coin with the iPhone but Apple has probably realized that this isn't a sustainable business model in the smartphone world these days, with touch-screen smartphones everywhere. The only thing that will make iPhone 4G beat the Evo 4G is price. Prices for the phones (and their respective plan rates) have not been announced for either Evo or iPhone 4G. Evo 4G will certainly cost a pretty penny (without discounts/rebated, I think the friggin' Palm Pre cost over $500, and the Evo makes that look like a Nokia 3310), and I'm sure Sprint will add a higher-cost unlimited plan for this phone because of its 4G capability. I might not have the cash to throw around for the Evo 4G, but I will receive a $150 credit on upgrades on June 1 from Sprint, may be eligible for a further discount on phone upgrades, and get a 15% discount on my monthly bill thanks to my employers, so I'll just wait for everything to be announced. And I might not need the Evo 4G, but damn, I'd LOVE to have one.
Samilktray Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 My iPhone is starting to show a few effects of all the times I've dropped it and I've been told by a few people if I take it into the Apple shop theyll swap it for a new 1, anyone know if this true?

Tubes Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 Yeah they will. I got a new one last week, tried to swap sims didn't work and snapped the cradle thing. Still stuck with the fvcker mind. So I can just take my phone into the apple shop and get a new one just like that? Edit to say ive got the 3gs on contract with O2.

Providing it's a bit bashed and less than a year old. I reckon so. Like I said i only snapped my sim card holder and they spotted a tiny dint on the back and sorted me a new 'un. Just makes sure everything is backed up in itunes before taking it in as you will lose the lot.
coale39 Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 So couldnt you buy a battered iphonee from ebay, go in there and get a new one?
