2 weeks old, the red light of death... cant believe it. I am not going to be the happiest when i walk into GAME tommorow morning!

Ive looked around on the web and most peoples last alot longer before they experience problems, microsoft said its a hardware failure and id have to contact them. No thanks, im going GAME. Really dissapointed <_<

To be fair if Game have only provided it brand new - it's not their fault so it's not really fair to shout at them, but yeah go there first off if it's under guarentee or owt there.

£350 :(

Something tells me someone had this xbox before me. For it to break in just under 2 weeks, its quite something. The xbox has moved without falling or hitting anything, up and down the stairs once or twice in its lifetime. I understand it may well not be GAME's fault, but if they say i should send it back to microsoft i would feel quite insulted, as thats what id expect to do after playing on it 24/7 for 6-12 months.

Alas there is!

lol On the receipt it says at the bottom, i can return any products 28 days after purchase. I purchased on the 29th of December, therefore i should be ok. Thank god... itd be a right waste of money if i couldnt.

And phube, i agree about the microsoft bit. Although, no disrespect to the xbox 360, its an amazing console.

the red light of death...

Sale of Goods Act '79:

• Wherever goods are bought they must "conform to contract". This means they must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality (i.e. not inherently faulty at the time of sale).
• It is the seller, not the manufacturer, who is responsible if goods do not conform to contract.
• For up to six years after purchase (five years from discovery in Scotland) purchasers can demand damages (which a court would equate to the cost of a repair or replacement).

This means you can either have your money back or a replacement...and it may be worth asking them for a gesture of good faith considering the aggro and the cost of returning the malfunctioning unit ~ i.e. a game or something...but you'll have to be nice for that one to pay off. Good luck, the law is on your side

Thanks for that Dave, ill walk in GAME with good confidence now

I think GAME would be sick of all the xbox 360 returns theyve had... apparently its perfectly normal to get the red light of death after 6 months, it just shocked me that i got it after just under 2 weeks lol

As an almost former retail manager mate, I can confirm that Daves advice is correct but what I will say is these store managers are put under pressure to not do refunds so beware as he or she will attempt to fill your head with crap.

My advice is to put GAMES head office number on your phone and if they dont sort it out instore, call Head Office whilst still in the branch or even better, ask them to call HO on there phones. Take peoples names in there and they`ll crap themselves but again, most are told not to refund (offer exchanges etc)

Good Luck

My xbox 360 broke after 4 months and im still expecting a email from microsoft for the couriers number. They said yesterday that they would email within 24 hours but they've already failed to repair it once but they said if they cant fix it they will give me a new console.

If it is only 4 months old then you should not be talking to Microsoft - the law says you can obtain a replacement or refund from the shop you bought it from. Take it there, demand your rights, don't be fobbed off - and if they kick up then take names and report them to their Head Office on your way to a solicitor.

Don't do that. It's cheeky, it's stroppy and frankly it'll get you loathed by whoever's behind the counter. End of the day, whatever preconceptions you have about GAME's employees, most of the time they're just young people like you or I (well, not Dave ;) ) doing a part time job for beer money / rent - just as bound by whatever regulations the company have laid down as you are.

Haggling at small, private businesses or down the market is one thing - hassling the poor buggers at GAME, HMV, Virgin or wherever for free stuff is just dickish.

nb. SosbanFach may, or may not work in a Blockbuster.

Not when you get free stuff because they checked with the manager. I find it always pays to be nice and polite and ask for extra stuff. Everywhere does deals.

...or maybe it is that they take sympathy on me because of my age...cheeky fudging bar steward stoodent

But the managers have managers. It's alright saying, yeah, the manager can hand over a free game or something - but they're like £50 odd on the 360. Say he does that for every faulty xBox (at peak, say, maybe twice a week in a busy store?) he's got to explain to his auditors why he's missing £100 worth of stock. It sounds petty, but it's the sort of stuff they'll take him to tribunal over.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not being sympathetic towards GAME, HMV or whoever. Most of these companies are completely cockish. But the average bloke behind the counter's just like you and I. Hassling them's never cool (unless they're rude to you, like, then give them hell.)

This is because the 360 overheats. Apparently reading elsewhere it gets so hot it melts the solder on the circuits! M$ suck.

I have never had a system like it for overheating. I was playing Fight Night Round 3 the other day for about two hours and this is not going over the top - i bearly could touch the disk and take it out it was that hot. Also the system is great when booming sound out on my 5.1 but if the misses is doing something and i need to play it quietly all i hear is the fans going crazy, its really not good enough for a next gen machine with that pricetag.

Sony all the way for me (although i do work for them)!
