HAVE YOU EVER BEEN RIPPED OFF?!

Most of us think we are too strewd to get ripped off but most of us do!

The worst rip-off I had was when me and some mates paid £600 a week for a 5 bedroom place in Florida for 2 weeks via an online company. We thought it was a good deal and only just over £100 each a week which is nothing. Anyway, we got to the house and it was in the heart of Kissimmee in Florida. the place was quality. However, it was full of American holidaymakers (first week in July) and we got to befriend some who all basically told us these homes were actually available through a US agent for $200 a week which was about £140 per week at the time.

Now that isnt that bad but this is....

I started this thread because yesterday I saw my brother who told me how he was ripped off over the weekend. He was walking across a retail park when a two blokes pulled up in a car and asked him in he was interested in a laptop. They showed him the machine working and said they wanted about £300 but according to my brother it was a high spec one worth over a grand. My brother then said he only had £60 or £80 quid on him. One bloke said "OK lets do the deal" and started to put the machine in a laptop bag but the driver said "No its not enough" and drove about 10 yards. He then reversed and said, "lets do the deal" and handed over the bag and my brother handed over the cash. They drove off. My brother then got on the train to go home, started unzipping the laptop bag and in there was TWO BOTTLES OF LILT AND SOME CARDBOARD!!! They switched it when they drove the 10 yards forward and had no intentions of giving him the machine!!!!!!!

Ive text him 10 times today calling him a mug :D

What an idiot.

I once brought 2 bullfight tickets from a tout in Madrid, for about £40 each, to subsequently find out that it hadn't actually sold out and I could have got the same tickets for about 50p each.

lol!

Talking of tickets reminded me of something a then mate did one summer. He had an idea to have the worlds biggest BBQ so I went with him to some huge park in London (Totteridge) with the view to hiring it for this event. Anyway, the money they wanted was ridiculous so it didnt happen. Or so I thought. About 4 weeks later some mates were telling me this big event on bank holiday and it was £30 per ticket at Totteridge. I thought it was too much of a coincidence so investigated. To cut a long story short this dodgy sod still went with the idea, sold tickets that promised live bands, a fair, unlimted BBQ food at this picturesque private parkland but I found out he had no intention of running it. He sold £2500 worth of tickets and I found out had not booked anything. We havent seen him since.

Same sort of thing nearly happened to me once, except the guys were selling a camcorder in a camcorder bag etc, they wanted £200, I offered £80, the guy said he would accept, which I was quite shocked at, and alarm bells were ringing!! The guy suggested we do the hand over simultaniously, but I insisted he opened the bag first as we were doing the switch over, at that point, he made a huff and puff, saying '...forget it then' and drove off!!!

Exactly the same happned to my mate, some irish lads did it to him but it was a camcorder. He handed over £80 even though I was telling him that it was a con and that he shouldn't. We start walking off and I tell him to check what he had bought as I bet they have switched it and he probably has pototoes in there.

He opened the bag and guess what.... two spuds sat there looking at him. He thought I was in on it as I said it would be spuds hahaha. I was amazed I actually guessed right.

Anyone who's stupid enough to be in that sitch and not get a receipt is asking for it really.

What happened to me was:-

Sitting happly in a pub garden last summer with three mates and two lads came over saying that they were selling laptops, camcorders etc. at stupid prices - think they wanted a ton for a laptop that was worth over a grand.

Anyway, they kept pestering us to go and have a look what they had in their car - so we (a few pints to the good) went over and took a look. There was all they said, brand new in cases sitting in the back of the car all the goods. Now we thought they were dodgy but they even put the laptop on and it worked! Anyway, we chucked 25 quid in each to buy the laptop (with a view to selling and splitting the cash) and they agreed. However, the laptop in the car was their 'sisters' and had her stuff on it so could not sell it but would go and get the other from home. They wanted the cash but we said we will wait for them to come back.

They returned with a laptop in a case identical to the one before, although (this was where we were mega stupid) it was not charged so would not switch on (but had cables and everything). So in the ten minutes they were gone (and a further pint to the good) we decided to give them the money and they left sharpish. The laptop looked genuine until i passed it over the table to my mate and sand started falling out! It was an empty laptop shell (god knwos where they got them from) filled with bags of sand to make the weight!

Anyway mega p***ed off we dumped the laptop in the bin and had a few more pints and went for a walk to the next watering hole, when low and behold we spotted their car in the carpark of the next pub. We looked through the windows and their they were sweet talking some more suckers. So we did what all good people should (i don't condole this type of action) we waited at their car and gave them a good old fashioned 'shoeing' (helped by the other three guys who they were trying to con in the pub!), locked them in the pub toilets and called the police (we told them they had 'fallen' in the car park while we chased them and to be honest the police knew them and did not care!).

The case went through court (they had been doing this and about 100 other petty crimes) and they got £150 pound fine (payable over 2 years!) and 20 hours comunity service - i bet that showed them!

Posted

A chap where I worked (and still work) committed break in & entry, burglary and fraud (cheques). Got caught and got less than 20 (I think) hours community service.

Bit stupid considering he'd had about £3,500 and all the stuff he'd nicked.

The shocking part of all this i think was when the police said to us and in court the line:-

'Yes they are known to us, we know they have been doing this for a while now, about 100-150 counts!)'

So the question back should have been:-

'So why did you not arrest them sooner?'

Say they did 100 counts making £50 a pop - thats £5000 not £150 and because they could not trace all the victims the money could not be paid to us - but the crown!

They must be laughing now, and probabilly still doing it!

lol cheers for the advice!! To be fair I had to alert his mates as he hasnt done anything this dumb since being talked into asking a mates sister out who was known by us as a devout lesbian lol. The knockback was disturbing to us all.

To whoever said that some Irish lads ripped them off, thats what happened to my brother. His exact words were "I hate fookin pykies"

You get all sorts of freaks trying to rip you off in London. The weirdest was someone knocking on my door last year saying he was collecting for a charity. When i reached in to check the card thingy with the charities registration details that was hanging round his neck, he ran so fast and hard that he left the broken chain in my hand! God knows how many poor sods he roped in to contribute to his personal charity.

this is an unbelievably common scam if you watch i think its called traffic cops on bbc1 on a wednesday

they catch people doing it every other week but the cops just let the criminals off with a warning. one week they caught this ginger muppet doing the laptop scam they let him off a few hours later they caught him in a van with loads of t.v's.

Well, all I can say is that some of you lot sound pretty stoopid. Anyway, must go now and get in touch with this bloke in Nigeria. He's the son of the king and he's having a bastard of a time getting his money out of the country before they kill him. He asked me to help him because someone he knows recommended me as a diamond geezer - not wrong there!

So, the next time I post I should be ten million pounds richer...HAHAHAHA.....see ya sucka's!
