The cost of our squad

I thought we bought Maybury, de Vries and Kisnorbo at the same time - £100K for all three of them

We signed Kisnorbo on a pre-contract at the same time... I imagine we got him on a free.

Indeed we did!

THE continuing air of uncertainty surrounding Hearts will cost the club a further key player this week when Patrick Kisnorbo joins Alan Maybury and Mark De Vries in committing his future to Leicester City. The 23-year-old Australian has been in negotiations with Hearts regarding an extension to his contract that expires in the summer, but has accepted an offer from his former manager Craig Levein to sign a pre-contract agreement with the Championship club.

Scotland on Sunday (Sun 9 Jan 2005).

He duly joined us in April, a couple of months earlier than planned.

I agree with pretty well all of that. Unfortunately the transfer window is about to close, we don't have a Fairy Godfather in place yet and we have to do the best with what resources we do have until that happens.

I'll be perfectly happy when the time comes to see the sort of players you've mentioned at our club but what I don't want is any more wasters coming along to hold our youngsters back, because once they're here they seem to have a charmed life selection wise.

The kind of players you mention would speed the development of our youngsters anyway but they are not the kind of "experienced" signings I've seen so far and I'm not sure such people would want to come this season to a club that's languishing so far down the League table.

Instead I could name four or five older players who haven't deserved to wear a Leicester shirt these last two years but they have, just the same. Why? And five more who would never lead us forward. Why?

And why do I hear calls, not for brilliant midfielders but for yesterday's men like Joey who are not as good as we already have in King?

Sometimes it seems we simply buy experience for its own sake rather than to genuinely steer the team forward.

Make no mistake though. I'm with you when we get a good one.

I was with you all the way until you said that King was better than an International player who is still only 26, once went for £3m and was our player of the yesr last year! Dont get me wrong, I dont agree in bringing back former players but suggesting that King is not as good is lunacy. Maybe he has great potential but he isnt there yet.

I also agree that the old ponies we have added in recent times but two years ago was King, Dodds and Porter ready? We had to do what we had to do!

I think that MMs deal means that you will get your wish and we will actually be forced to play some more young lads. I just hope and pray they are as good as you say fella!!!

Thracian, you missed the point I made.

What I am saying is that I dont have major objections to trying youngsters, at the right time, with the current squad we have. However, if we want to be one of the big boys of this division again (forget the premiership), we have to get into the position where we are playing better quality players than the journeymen you are listing, but adding players who have proven abilities.

Look at Birmingham, 3 strikers added, all worth over £10m to replace the departing Heskey. 3 Arsenal players in on loan (young but with more ability than our youth teamers), Derby add £1.5m players from Man Utd and the likes of Pearson, Teale and getting Lupoli on loan. Sunderland buy £3m strikers in Stokes and have made god knows how many other purchases.

As ideologic as it is to have youngsters of class coming straight into the side, its not gonna happen. We need proven class players who can learn and train with the kids to bring them on instead of throwing them all in and expect miracles. I`d love nothing more than to see a handful of our kids lining up for our first team in the premiership but this club hasnt got time to babysit a handful or two lots of kids whilst they learn there trade and then punt them out when we work out they havent got what it takes.

GET SOME FOOKING QUALITY IN before this club goes down the shitepan and follows Forest.

likewise and to add fuel to what you saying luton who did well last year have been selling of the best parts of their team and have spiralled down the table.

Luton is the perfect example of a club which is going tats up fast but hopefully Leicester as a club have got alot more going for them than Luton! Those poor sods at Luton have just had a £250k bid accepted for a Sheff Weds striker currently on loan at S****horpe as a replacement for a £3m player they sold! (Vine). One thing can be said about mouthy Mike Newell is that he keeps finding these players and making them better to become valuable in the first place. Fair play to the longfaced chauvinistic racist :D

So who said this board can't manage properly?

A tidy profit and maintaining our position in the league - what more can one ask for?

Behave Davie!!!

What you mean? How many clubs can you name that have made a profit on their transfer dealings, not many I'd guess.

I'm a happy contented LCFC fan, we're very lucky to be in the Championship it's our natural level. People expect far too much!

Someone slipped you something in your tea, davie? lol

We're Leicester City, we have a divine right to be in the top flight.

Or am I the deluded one?;)

Funny you should ask, I've just finished drinking a cup of tea, I'll have to ask MrsG, hopefully without her finding out I'm on Foxes Talk. :D

It doesn't tell the whole story though davie. Also, making a profit on transfer dealings isn't that essential, it's only essential if the club has absolutely no money inside the club to play with. Then you'd have to ask why the club cannot raise any funds other than from transfers, that to me would indicate that the board aren't doing their jobs properly. Hardly any investment in to the club in the 4-5 years they've been in charge.

So, yes. We will be one of a few clubs that have made a profit on our in's and out's over the past few years, but that doesn't include the players we've bought and then paid to leave the club such as Gilbert, Gerrbrand, Canero, etc. That equates to nearly another million. Plus we bought 2 of our players (Williams and Connolly) with the parachute payments, money we don't now get. So it was inevitable we'd have to sell our most prized asset to get some money and luckily we got way over the odd's that made us more than break even.

I certainly would not use this statistic to gauge whether our board has done a good job or not. We have been battling relegation for 3 consecutive seasons to a league we've never dropped in to before and for 2 of those seasons we've had the aid of parachute payments, yet it's been wasted. Piss poor workmanship.

We didn't pay Gilbert off, did we? I thought we shipped him out on loan then had Sheff Wed buy him off us?

As it was undisclosed it was assumed to be at a loss.
