Joe. Posted 2 February 2007 Posted 2 February 2007 Time to fire up a good old debate. James has had a great season. Robinson has not. Therefore my vote is going to James. He deserves another chance.
Leonisco Posted 2 February 2007 Posted 2 February 2007 I've voted Robinson as I'd have him over James any day. However, at the moment, I'd drop him and stick in one of Kirkland, Carson or Foster, most probably Kirkland. If he hadn't had so many injuries he'd be England number 1 by now anyway.
Bert Posted 2 February 2007 Posted 2 February 2007 Robinson. 1. The best 'keeper England have. 2. If we want to actually win things a settled back-line is key.
Joe. Posted 2 February 2007 Author Posted 2 February 2007 I'm sure he scares the defeders sh*tless. They never know if he's coming or going. At least James is commanding and will sort his defence out. Robinson is living on reputation, I'm sorry.
Matt Posted 2 February 2007 Posted 2 February 2007 This is tough I have slagged off James time and time again and was very happy when he was finally dropped and Robinson was given his chance, but now Robinson is just as bad. TBH Think James might just edge it. (Never thought I ever say that)
Flynny Posted 2 February 2007 Posted 2 February 2007 I'd always considered James a brilliant keeper in terms of flair. In a scramble in the box he's brilliant. However, he's not particularly solid and prone to lapses in concentration, so he's actually worse in less dangerous situations. Apart from the odd high-profile boob, though, he is an absolutely brilliant keeper. I'd probably just about play him over Robinson.
dandannieldanok Posted 2 February 2007 Posted 2 February 2007 James is technically better, Robinson is overweight.
Simi Posted 2 February 2007 Posted 2 February 2007 Robinson just. Not had the best season so far but still the best we have I think. James has had a great season but has constantly shown himself as a liability for England.
lookwhaticando Posted 2 February 2007 Posted 2 February 2007 Neither. Would prefer someone else. Foster looks quite handy.
lcfc_jme Posted 3 February 2007 Posted 3 February 2007 Robinson. He's a less-scary and more consistent prospect than David James for sure. Though if Foster had more experience at the top level, I'd go with him over the pair of 'em.
lookwhaticando Posted 3 February 2007 Posted 3 February 2007 Not very good with his hands though, Foster. James and Robinson wouldn't need their hands if they used their brain once in a while.
Jay Posted 3 February 2007 Posted 3 February 2007 on current form it has to be james without doubt!! however at 38 he's probably to old to be anything more than a stop gap. If Paul Robinson is the best we have as an England Keeper then we are in a terrible state
Sly Posted 3 February 2007 Posted 3 February 2007 Robinson for me, purely bqased on avid James age. England have many high profile decent keepers, Robinson, James, Foster, Carson, Camp, ect but for me we only have one high profile international class keeper and thats Kirkland. He's just about as fragile as a twig! Some of Englands best potential keepers are held back, we all raved about Richard Wright when he was at Ipswich, he went to Arsenal and he becmaes the forgotten man. I would think that somewhere in the lower leagues we must have a keeper somewhere that is better than all our Premiership high flyers. Well maybe?
MC Prussian Posted 3 February 2007 Posted 3 February 2007 James, but only based on this season. Can't really see an exceptional English keeper these days.
Guest Gist Posted 3 February 2007 Posted 3 February 2007 I think it's hard to chose because of what James' last performances were like for England and that Robinson hasn't really been playing well either. I'd give James a chance, but I think I'd stick with Robinson as first choice.
Manwell Pablo Posted 3 February 2007 Posted 3 February 2007 David James on his day is a world class goalkeeper, he just makes a stupid mistake every time he puts on a England Jersey.
Flynny Posted 3 February 2007 Posted 3 February 2007 David James on his day is a world class goalkeeper, he just makes a stupid mistake every time he puts on a England Jersey. My thoughts exactly. Surely his bad run has to end sometime, though? I'd expect him to be more experienced and to have a greater desire to make a proper fist of it on his last chance if he were made No. 1 again. If he messed up again, he wouldn't get another chance and he'd know it.
potter3 Posted 4 February 2007 Posted 4 February 2007 James, good keeper, and seems to cut out the stupid mistakes now too. Plus de Vries scored against Robinson, he'll never live it down.
Simi Posted 4 February 2007 Posted 4 February 2007 Although he got 4 stuck past him he made some very good saves today and without him could of been more.
Floating Fox Posted 4 February 2007 Posted 4 February 2007 A month ago I would have said James but he's non improved since and robinson is finding some form now. Tough one.
