Toby or not Toby Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 i feel that with a reserve team players would be able to be kept match fit because they are playing games regularly, whereas this season they get 1 game every two months! your thoughts please
coale39 Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 No it wouldn't help the reserve team players AT ALL!
Floating Fox Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 The club are in the early process of setting up a midlands league
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 The club are in the early process of setting up a midlands league Wahey, Rab Douglas might get his first game for about a year
Joe. Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 Wahey, Rab Douglas might get his first game for about a year Is that a good thing?
Harpenden Fox Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 utterly essential we have a proper reserve team. One of the many lowpoints of the last year. It keeps younger players involved, and helps injured players to get match practice. A complete no brainer
Daggers Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 Is there a point to this thread as we all agree on this...I think...without exception. Well done us, applause and pats on back all round
Thracian Posted 22 February 2007 Posted 22 February 2007 Even though I cannot understand losing the reserves team in the first place with all the problems it's caused I am sceptical about its value in the future. This club will be so full of loanees and imports shortly that the Academy trainees will disappear so far down the pecking order they might as well not exist. Experience is the new watchword and I saw the result in full technicolour at Burnley. A team with no style, no intent and no joy.
Daggers Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 ... I am sceptical about its value in the future Match fitness for squad players?
Thracian Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 Match fitness for squad players? But I felt that while the club see its value for youngsters, they don't see first teamers as playing there other than on one-off occasions, almost by request really. I got the impression that reserves football is considered beneath the first teamers dignity. Certainly I think they need to regain their fitness there because a good few of em definitely haven't been fit when picked for the Championship side.
El_Thief Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 was the reserves lost due to money or cos someone thought i t worked so well for newcastle in the past ? as man utd added a team in the lower non league as part of there reserves and we don't even have one, not right really, every club needs one to keep players fit as sorts
Aixelsyd Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 I can't think of any legitamate reason for not having a Reserve Team. I admit I don't currently know what sort of "non-1st" team setup is possible but I would think multiple teams should be available for maintaining the fitness level of ALL players within the club. Frankly, how does a 1st Team player expect to really push for re-inclusion if he isn't willing to display his talents in a competative arena. Anyway I guess I just agree with all of you
Geo V Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 at the sarcastic comments on here! Of course many of the people who posted are right. Its almost disgraceful that we havent got one this season. The advantages to this are obvious (ie younger players get to play against better class players, fitness improved etc) but RK will probably point to the fact that his squad is too small to cater for reserve football and if he promoted the youth team to the reserves, that would have stiffled the progression of the kids who have been succesful as a unit. The step up may be too early and hindered progress??!! Reserve Team needed but we need a bigger squad of players!
JoeyB Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 i would re-introduce, it was stupid idea getting rid of it. when we had a reserve team we managed to get players back from injury quicker, also it would be good to play some youngsters like, king, gradel, dodds in it and see how they cope
shen Posted 23 February 2007 Posted 23 February 2007 No he shouldn't. Let the reserve team players hone their PSP or XBOX skills in the club house.
Jay Posted 24 February 2007 Posted 24 February 2007 this thread seems suggest that the club decided to get rid of the reserve team and not the fact that The Premier League decided to kick us out with little or no notice and without a viable alternative leaving the club with no immediate options of course a reserve league is a good idea and I hope some of the midlands teams manage to sort something out

Kilworthfox Posted 24 February 2007 Posted 24 February 2007 Milan Should reintroduce the Foxy Ladies! I don't know how many times it needs to be said!
Sods Posted 24 February 2007 Posted 24 February 2007 Milan Should reintroduce the Foxy Ladies! I don't know how many times it needs to be said! he should be said be once, then they should bring them back the cheerleaders were looking a bit tasty last saturday
Chrysalis Posted 27 February 2007 Posted 27 February 2007 I heard the championship will have a reserve league for next season.
Thracian Posted 27 February 2007 Posted 27 February 2007 No official word from the club - no word either on when the postponed Academy matches are to be played. I think there's three of em now. The season comes to a climax, City are top of the League and the first we'll hear about the matches is when they've been played.
