The "Have a listen to THIS" Thread

Recommended Posts

Listen to mine (2nd one down's the best) and I'll CONSIDER putting myself through that.

yeah, it's not bad, not enough of a groove for me, the bass starts well, but gets mobbed by everything else! sounds very early nineties (proper) indie, like ride and curve and the pixies (with scottish accents)

Yeah - mentioned them about a week ago on here. Really good band.

Check them out at this link - you won't regret it.

Yeah well I saw them first!

I don't really see the Pixies comparision, Stez. Possibly on the drum production, but the Pixies were always sparser and faster. Not that I don't love them, but this is dense and shimmery and has a kind of 'driving at night' feel.

They sound kinda like Mogwai crossed with Interpol to me.

Good band, but is it because they rely harshly on the influences of the following bands:-

Joy Division

Siouxsie & The Banshees

Wire

Cabaret Voltaire

The Cure

????

Only heard bits of the rest, but I really like Wire and don't heard any similarity at all. Which bit sounds like 'em?

My latest slightly belated discovery is the Northern Soul genre - surely some of the most beautiful music ever... Anyway I don't know much about it apart from I had a great time listening to it in the sun all day on Saturday.

Just bought a couple of collections off Amazon but if there's any fans out there that can offer some guidance please let me know...

for those of you who like a bit of sophistication and melody in your electronica - on of my favourite unsigned bands is Some Kinda Frantic Scene

DJ Krush. Anything and Everything by him. Proper legend. :worship:

The best Japanese DJ ever and one of the best Japanese musicians of all time as well for that matter.

Try the albums Milight, Zen, Jaku, Code 4109 - and there's a fair few more to choose from.

Oh, and he's playing Koko in Camden next Sunday. Hoorah!

Now you're talking James, I play a lot of DJ Krush in any DJ Sets I play and adore this album I've got on vinyl; especially the track which mixes over 'Just be good to me' B00004R656.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Problem is in Leicester, no venue wants any downtempo/trip hop style DJs, it's all based on ****ing DJ Sammy wannabees - think I'll have to move to London !!

Right, here's another belter for you.

DJ Vadim - The Soundcatcher.

Just got hold of this album and it's absolutely fantastic. A melting pot of funk, hip hop, reggae and soul with a sprinkling of Ninja Tune twistedness. Some beautiful female vocals (although I could listen to women sing all day every day) and a cameo from Skinnyman and others.

Best album I've heard in a long time.
