The batting is simply not deep enough in this format. Shan is also not Handscomb.

Then take away our best two white ball bowlers in Rehan and Hull, it’s very very difficult.

The fact we’re on 3 wins out of 5 is still very decent with the latter two still to come back. We’re sadly relying on one of Kimber or Budinger to go big each game and neither are consistently good enough for that.

Agree with most of your comments but Handscomb is not a T20 player love him but continuing to play him last season in the Blast cost us big time.

Budinger has batted in 29 T20 games and averages 13.7 with 2 fifties at a strike rate of 138. (Significantly worse than the much maligned Arron Lilley who averaged 23.6 with 5 fifties at 146 for us).

Also in comparison Harry Swindells has batted in 31 games and averages 19.2 with 3 fifties at (a woeful) 113.

I'm not suggesting the latter is the answer to our top order issues but it's increasingly clear that Budinger isn't up to it either and given Patel's poor form and Kimber also being a feast or famine batter it's a real problem. Budinger's had one decent knock so far to be fair so really hope he finds a couple more soon as don't think we have anyone else on the books to come in.

Probably the coach.

They interviewed Alfonso on Radio Leicester just after the toss. He gave the impression that they wanted to bat first but thought that there may be rain & were concerned about DLS. Interestingly the Yorkie commentator said that they would have batted anyway.

I do wonder if there's a case to be made for Kimber to float in the order and come in when Budinger gets out?

Get Padded up early then!

I had tried to forget Arron Lilley! I think we can all agree there were other significant issues with Lilley, regardless of what his average was and he was not great for team spirit. By contrast the team are very cohesive at the moment.

I would hope that Budinger has a higher ceiling that the other two you mention and sometimes you need to give time for it to click, of course other times, players need a break and a way to find form out of the spotlight.

Discussion on the possible future Championship structure. Be sod's law if we win the division at a canter and it ends up meaning nothing...

You can't change the rules after the matter. It would land them in court pretty swiftly I would imagine

Are we banned from playing at Derby in T20s or something?

Derbyshire move the fixture with our agreement. Makes both counties more cash than a home game would.

It'll never happen while they're in the same group as Yorkshire, but I'd love our game against them to get moved to Chesterfield one year. Great ground.

Agreed although  we are one of the clubs pushing for a fixture reduction and the club want 10 fc matches a season not 12 which is being suggested

Massively  when I first went down as a kid  in the late 80s they played 72 days of first class cricket along with 3 other competitions  they currently play 56 and reckon they play too much. Also worth pointing out sides have much bigger squads these days remember 49 year old coach Ken Higgs having to play because we had about 2 injuries same with Agnew coming out of retirement  in 92 for the same reason. Nowadays we have about 4 or 5 bowlers on the sidelines for every single game who can play if players need a rest plus the loan market is always available

Guessing we're in favour due to the commercials of it, can't imagine we make much if any money from hosting championship games? I don't agree with it though

Totally  the club say they lose money every time they host a championship game

Ben Green just helped Somerset chase 230 against Middlesex who have always and remain not the greatest at T20.

Du Plooy had quite possibly the worst day in the field I've ever seen someone have!

Cracking game

P.s. our stream is not as bad as some. Northants and Sussex are both pretty amateur.

The range in quality in the streams is wild. Somerset and Lancashire to name a couple put out a properly polished product. Couple others look like someone's got their phone out to do it.

Budgets differ for different places though. Easy for Lancs when it's funded by Emirates ads, though it is an excellent watch. Somerset's is best watched on mute.

Feel you get the best commentary with the Beeb reporters, who might follow one side but at least offer balance when it's required.
