Saw a bit of the 2s. Pitch looks white. Its only April

Perhaps hoping they get some turn in the next few weeks.

Tattershall played well in what I saw. As did Gumbs. Not sure if has left Surrey but often plays in our 2s.  But its a tough surface for bowlers. As I say white almost no grass

Gumbs is at Loughborough for uni, no longer on the books of Surrey it seems. Second score in two games for us.

Don't think that's at stake the BBC don't pay for the coverage just the commentators.

They have the rights. Other radio stations can't cover One Day Cup games, even though the Beeb stopped bothering with group games last year.

It’s still going to be less coverage as a whole if there’s less commentators.

Maybe not remember in the 50 over games last year they had young commentators starting out who worked for free

Think Gumbs would be a good signing.

Yes, Farooq took 6 wickets in the match. We could play 4 Spinners at some point

Here are the relevant bits from The Cricketer article about RR. Seems he may return in 2027 as the the full-time members of RL staff are busy up until May.

A group of county supporters is protesting the BBC's decision to end the employment of Leicestershire commentator Richard Rae.

Rae, a winner of the Christopher Martin-Jenkins Domestic Cricket Broadcaster of the Year award in 2014, is being released by the club after six rounds of Championship matches. The remaining games will be covered by permanent members of staff at BBC Radio Leicester.

As a casual member of staff, previously employed on a freelance basis specifically to cover Leicestershire's season, Rae has few rights and will not receive compensation. There is no suggestion that his departure is performance-related - he is regularly commended in awards citations - with the decision instead based around finances.

That is likely to prove somewhat controversial, though. The ECB currently provides funding of around £100,000 to the BBC to support their local radio coverage of the 18 first-class counties. This means each of the local stations receives £5,450.

In the case of BBC Radio Leicester, they have decided that money will cover just the first six Championship matches of the season when their full-time staff members are busy covering football and rugby. As a result, Rae will leave his role in mid-May.

The decision is likely to raise fears that other local BBC stations, suffering huge budgetary pressure, will make similar decisions around the staffing of their county teams.

Rae declined to comment when contacted by The Cricketer, though he did confirm he would be open to returning to the role in 2027 if funding was available. This looks likely with pressure on Radio Leicester's small sports team, especially intense in the weeks where the cricket and football seasons overlap.

Radio Leicester will continue to cover all Leicestershire's Championship and T20 Blast matches. Only the knock-out stages of the One-Day Cup will be covered.

So is it the club or the BBC as this article contradicts itself?? I just can’t see the club in its current guise doing that to him.

My reading of it, is that it's BBC Radio Leicester who have cut his employment after the first round of 6 champ games, when their other presenters will have more time. Of course they will be very stretched again without him once the football and rugby seasons start up again. It's a shame as it marginalises cricket more by not having a dedicated cricket reporter. When you compare the coverage that Surrey had with 4 or 5 established cricket presenters, it really is night and day.

I have written to the BBC expressing my views much along the lines of George Dobell’s article in The Cricketer. I’m not holding my breath though!

That's Surreys own channel though which they can afford easily with the money they make nothing to do with the BBC.Let's be honest though much as we enjoy ball by ball coverage from.a business point of view it makes little sense with all the costs involved to keep it going for a club that gets gates of 200  and with only a few hundred listening.I know you can't compare the costs but the BBC axed Doctors last year which had a huge fan base because costs were too high so why would they would they want to keep CC coverage full time.

BBC it's nothing to do with the club.Few sides have there own channel with commentators but we don't sadly costs would be too high

Yes see he's. playing at the snooker world championship again. Presume that's who you mean as I know you wouldn't want to bring politics into a sports forum.
