Really uplifting to see how we are responding. To concede 520 and still be well in the game is a great effort.

Shout out to Hill

He looked like me for the first 20 balls he faced. He then just entered the zone.

If he can go and get a hundred and a big one today, I’ll shed a little tear I think. I wrote him off last week. But he’s golden. The underdog, the loyal fox, one day cup winning captain and modern club legend quite frankly.

Irritates me we're playing Weatherald to be honest. It's not Leicestershire's fault but it is an issue for the ECB.

Why? We’re entitled to two overseas players and he’s averaging 70 over his first three innings. From his interview the other day he seems a good guy and what’s not to say that he’s using his experience to help lads like Rishi and Lewis to get their confidence back?? When things are going well for us, we’ve always had good overseas to go with it eg. Simmo, Cronje, Hodge, Pete.

Because I think the county game should serve the national team. To be clear I dont think Leicestershire have done anything wrong, its in their interest to do it. Australia dont let English players play. The Indians dont let their players play outside of the IPL. Just feels like another own goal from the ECB.

His interview before day one on his mental health battles was really good.

Hope they didn't learn to much from Cronje

Interesting that we have two players currently at the crease - Patel and Eskinazi - with significant, identical career-best scores (179). Fingers crossed, that coincidence will disappear some time this morning.

So you're saying we should ban oversea players entirely?

If you were on about some of the bang average overseas milking county cricket during the Kolpak era, I'd agree, but overseas players have always had a role in our game.

They raise standards, make the Championship more marketable and test our best. You had two or three Surrey blokes who want to be in the England frame bowling at Australia's Test opener yesterday.

Its not just one though is it - Harris, Mcsweeney and Weatherald all playing. Id limit it to certain nations and bring in some sort of draft personally. You could level things up vs the likes of the test ground counties.

And id try and leverage it for some sort of access to the shield.

The county game needs good overseas players. In an ideal world we wouldnt be helping rivals get better but the standard isnt good enough to not havd them.

Not your average journeymen ones though or those that come for a couple of games.

I think what you're saying is completely fair but its not healthy to have internationals bailing out a lack of quality over here. Counties aren't short of money now, more needs to be done to incentivise local talent development. Weatherald will be taking a decent chunk of cash which could have been spent elsewhere for example. As I say that I do get the need the club has for short term progress as well.

The national team couldn't be more disrespectful to the County game than it's been in recent years.

I've never understood this argument to be honest. Think the net benefit of overseas players is by far more weighted towards the county game rather than the OS players getting some exposure to county pitches (which don't often resemble those England will use in anycase).

Whatever thd result here the county has done us proud. Going great but someone has just suggested on the stream that Davey is out for the season! 😲. Hope not.

I mean having good batsmen tests Englands county bowlers and fielders, so I think it’s a completely ridiculous argument full stop to be honest lol
