COG in the wheel now

This does not surprise me.

Chris O'Grady returned from loan at Rushden fit and raring to go, quickly got picked for the first team and made some short but valuable contributions.

Beginning of the season he's there or thereabouts but Fryatt got the nod (for no reason seeing he was unfit and had done nothing pre-season) and the next thing you know COG and Kelly seem to have had words and COG is effectively on his way.

Whether he'd have made it I don't know - he was stacks better than Horsfield - but the point is who was giving him specialist striker advice at Leicester?.

There may be someone but from the above article it doesn't sound as if COG noticed and suddenly, with the right advice, hed's getting goals and apparently doing well.

Not, as I say, that he was ever as bad as people made out, and it seems like a once reasonable striker thinks so too. Can't argue with the professionals as Hullfox might say! :D

Good for him. Always like to see the academy lads doing well at whatever level.

Chris O'Grady ... made some short but valuable contributions.

My snook is being well and truly cocked in your direction - what abject piffle. The boy was hopeless, good riddance.

He has found his level - League 2.

I'm glad he's doing better somewhere else. He was never going to make it here, he just wasn't good enough.

You must have seen him in different games to me cos I never really saw him being asked to operate as a centre-forward. Just a guy who was told to hold the ball up, move out wide and retain possession while Kelly tried to play out the game.

I'd have never known he was a striker except that I saw him in the Reserves and I never did understand why no-one got him to make more dangerous runs or to attack the box more. Still, if he doesn't know it all at 20-odd what hope is there for him?.

Kelly must have known all alon that he could rent Horsfield and get Caders off the street!

He was rubbish. End of.

But hold on, people have been selecting indifferent players in their teams all season - Sylla, Low, Johnson, Jarratt, Yeates - none of whom were as good as COG in their respective roles.

COG wasn't rubbish anyway - he simply wasn't ever developed to his full potential. Kelly admitted as such when COG left saying he didn't really want to sell him but that COG wanted opportunities and they weren't likely to arise. Weeks later Fryatt was injured yet again and we were signing Horsfield and Yeates.

And ironically in retrospect, COG would almost certainly have had a more effective season that Fryatt, as would Dodds. Yet Fryatt remains the golden boy, presumably because of his relatively big fee and because he scored a few goals last season before being sussed.

But when Fryatt gets sussed and struggles there's understanding for a guy "having a bad spell". When Porter gets sussed because he's stuck to a certain role, then he's not as good as he's made out. Double standards.

Well COG's gone, dismissed as rubbish. Dodds has probably gone, dismissed as rubbish and we're left with five goal Hammond, four goal Fryatt and two goal Horsfield as three of our main strikers.

Inspiring that.

Haven't seen Dodds at Championship level so I couldn't possibly dismiss him as rubbish.

COG, however, was rubbish.

And you'll struggle to find a single person who thinks Porter is as good as you make out.

Yes I'd echo that.

You can't claim that O'Grady and Dodds would definitely have had better seasons than Fryatt Thracian because clearly they weren't cut out for the first team. If they were they'd be playing now.

I can't rule out Louis Dodds but I'm not so sure he's the answer to all our strike problems and will score you 15-20 goals a season.

Will be cursing my luck when he scores 15 goals in League Two next year  We've really missed out on a good player there

Your are the walking talking version of a old journalist saying Thrac "Here are the opinions on which I will base my facts"

Fifteen!!!! Who the hell mentioned 15? If COG had scored 10 at Leicester he'd have been a hero if he'd done it in a Fryatt mask.:D

Did I?

I suppose it's all my fault then.

I'm glad for O'Grady - in the end, all a footballer wants to do is go out there and play and be an asset to the team.

He's already scored four times since joining Rotherham and I'm pleased to say that it was O'Grady who scored the only goal against Forest, a game that ended in a draw (just like the first matchup at Millmoor).

This is spot on.

I never had a problem as such with COG and wish him all the best, but he was hopeless.

All the technical ability of Elvis (minus the pace).

at the end of last season he was good to bring on and he held the ball up and also scored a very valuble goal against luton that got us a 2-1 win and just about clinched mathmatical safety!
