Geo V Posted 3 May 2007 Posted 3 May 2007 I only like tuning in so see the odd person say something embarassing and its the best voting tension that we get until the Eurovision comes around Does anyone bother with them and do they make that much difference??
Bert Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 No. What i do care about is people knocking on my door when im having a wa.. whilst i'm watching Neighbours or Hollyoaks to try and get me to vote for them.
act smiley Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 Would have voted for that pinnacle of political positions, Assembly Member for Cardiff Central. Except they put me off by constantly flyering me with absurd negative campaigns, doing irritiating door-to-door stuff ranting about how everyone else was evil and that stuff frankly makes me switch off - I want to hear about their policies not random stuff like that. So I didn't bother. Wouldn't have voted for the council anyway, all the candidates for that were crap.
Rincewind Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 I'd like see sometimes a candidate say something like ' The party that have been in have done some good things but we in the ...... party aim to expand those policies and will do our best to improve on those schemes the .... party have set up.' Instead of 'We in the ......... party aim to scrap any schemes or policies the ..... party have brought in and bring in new schemes and new policies of our own.'
lookwhaticando Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 North West Leicestershire has changed hands from Labour to Tories (Tories gain 15, Labour lose 16) Two BNP councillors have been elected to this council. Melton - the other Leicestershire council to be declared remains in Conservative hands (they gain 1 councillor from Labour). Daventry, Northants - the last constituency I lived in - has, without any surprise at all, remained with the Tories (gained one councillor from Labour - Tories now have 35, Lib dems 2, Labour 1... haha).
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 Disgusting! Funny how in Scotland and Wales, voters aren't happy with Labour so they turn to other left wing parties like the SNP and the Plaid. Why do some English feel to need to punish themselves with filth like the BNP?
Mort Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 Leicester City council are counting this morning, ditto Harborough... nationally good but not "great" for the tories, poor for Labour and very poor for the LibDems, how exciting !
davieG Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 On the principle that party politics stinks, especially at a local level I only vote if there is a suitable Independent standing, there isn't so I haven't voted.
London_Fox Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 So a few things: I'm disgusted that people voted for the BNP in the Leicestershire. A place with a mixed ethnic community and with rarely any trouble. Stats show BNP councillors often leaders to increased racism in that area. Let's hope not. If people don't want to vote (only independents or annoyed by negative campaigns etc) I would recommend spoiling ballots. It shows that you care and want to vote but aren't happy with any of the options. Wish more people would do that rather then not vote...more so at national level maybe then local.
Katy Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 We only had two parties to choose from and as the only people who get in round my way are the Con. men then i'm buggered really.

Daggers Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 I don't hate Leeds or their supporters ~ it's banter. I don't really hate bus drivers or the posty that nicks my mail. I can suffer db11's posts and sit and wait for people to move their cars from my drive...But grrr do I get wound up by the politics of hatred.
JadeFalcon Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 dan, people will keep voting for people like the bnp because of the current labour government just wants to A. give control of our country and our money to johnny foreigner B. immigration <--- nuff said about that already I AM A MINORITY in my own city now i dont want the bnp to be in charge of the country, i just want a thorn in the side of any government that follows my two points above
Benji Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 So why shouldn't people vote BNP? Our country would be living and running on a lie if people didn't have the opportunity to. This was my first chance to vote, and you know what, after deliberating between the liberals (who won in our area taking it from conservatives) and a more extreme party, i didnt bother. I read the BNP website and, as much as on SOME issues I can agree with, too many are TOO extreme. If they ever came into Government legislation would be passed left right and centre allowing the death penalty for everything. As much as I agree with the more serious offences, this would get way out of hand. I really wish there was a compromise, I have no faith in any of the three main parties and genuinely believe that all three of them will do exactly the same if in charge as each other. To whoever says Leicester has no problems, walk through the city centre/areas around it, on your own, even if it's not the darkest and tell me you feel safe. I don't think so.
Alexikokopops Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 Lincoln's changed to Conservative after being Labour since 1980, they said that was gonna be one to watch on Newsnight last night.
davieG Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 Lincoln's changed to Conservative after being Labour for at least 12 years, they said that was gonna be one to watch on Newsnight last night. But will anyone notice a difference, central government will continue to dictate to local government, councils will continue to waste money on pc activities at the expense of providing good quality basic services and council taxes will continue to rise above inflation.

People vote BNP because of ignorance and hatred.
Dr The Singh Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 That is, quite simply, crap.People vote BNP because of ignorance and hatred. I would say most people vote BNP, without actually knwoing there policies and the implications it has on society!! BNP, use negative politics and convert people to there ideals by maniplulating current circumstances with quick fixes!! Only a fool would vote BNP!!!
Daggers Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 The BNP are a fascist organisation...I hate fascism...Ban the BNP and take away the vote of their supporters...but that's fascist...I hate fascism
Alexikokopops Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 But will anyone notice a difference, central government will continue to dictate to local government, councils will continue to waste money on pc activities at the expense of providing good quality basic services and council taxes will continue to rise above inflation. I'm not sure, I just happened to have Newsnight on when I was mopping the floor last night. Makes me sound well intelligent
Phube Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 I love my area!! Only 6 candiddate from two parties!! Tory & Lib Dem Labour and BNP don't even try. It's the kind of place I like to live!!
Benji Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 That is, quite simply, crap.People vote BNP because of ignorance and hatred. The thing is, there is no major compromise between labour and BNP. It's either one or the other. People are tired are the ''main'' three and so be it ignorance or what not, BNP, extreme as they are, are the main difference. I think if a party middle ground of the two, ie some extreme policies but not as ridiculous as the BNP, they'd be quick to gain the vote.
Dr The Singh Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 We need a 'common sense ' party, but unfortunately it would fail. Big business, corporates etc would not buy into it as they only see there benefit, not for 'common', hence no funding, no media coverage etc. All parties are swayed by politics for the elite etc!!
Daggers Posted 4 May 2007 Posted 4 May 2007 All parties are swayed by politics for the elite etc!! You've been talking to Lemon Harpic, comrade Singh!
