I think my options are Catskills, New York State - Massachusetts - Vermont or New Hampshire. Is it likely to be warm at the end of September? Oh, and America be warned. James. Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 I had one of the best weekends of my life in New York City. It's the obvious choice but an absolutely incredible place. Good time to go as well, what with the $2:£1.

If you want beautiful scenery, Vermont's a safe choice. You should really experience New York City, as James says. You can't really go to the North East and not go to New York city itself.
Smudge Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 Late September will be getting a little cool so you aint going to be sitting on the beach up there. My choice would be to fly into Boston and spend a couple of days there. Lots of history, bars and seafood restaurants; very Irish. Head west into New Hampshire and Vermont; then into Upper New York State and eventually head south to the Big Apple where I would spend my last few days and fly out of JFK or Newark. The leaves will be turning color at that time of year which is a magnificent sight. The football season will have started and the baseball playoffs will be taking place; even if you don't like the sports, the atmosphere at a live game is brilliant. If you decide to come further south.......Washington DC is a great city and I'll have the missus put the kettle on. Hoteling it everywhere will get expensive so you might consider getting a Holiday Inn or Hilton credit card. As you spend money between now and then you will get points towards hotel stays. If you join their frequent stay programmes you will also get points for each stay. That applies to the airline that you choose join their frequent flyer programme before you travel and you'll get points for the round trip.........if you know all this I apologise. I've seen too many Brits not bother and regret it later since after four long haul trips you might have enough points for a free ticket anywhere in the US, Canada and Mexico. If you look around accommodation is not that expensive (I stayed on 32nd street - walking distance to Grand Central, Empire State, etc - for about £15 a night or something). Beware of breakfast though. It is a fully deserved stereotype regarding the size of portions (and stomachs). These boys don't f**k about. I could barely walk after I asked for pancakes and in a ridiculous act of stubborness proceeded to devour the lot. Painful.

The city has some great music venues, the Philly sound is still huge there and, of course, the one and only Marah. Musical maestros.
