Geo V Posted 14 May 2007 Posted 14 May 2007 I know part of the question is hypothetical but still answer as best as you can! Matt Jones for us - I think he cost £3m and was touted as being a player in the mould of a Muzzy Izzet. Its a shame we didnt see much of him. David Hirst - Man Utd wanted to buy him a few weeks before he got injured. At one stage he looked a very good striker although for me I thought he was over-rated. Michael Owen - Maybe a suprise choice but he has been dogged by hamstring injuries for years and hasnt looked the same in 3 years now. He has his spells of decent form but I think he`ll never be the same player again. Darren Anderton - Its funny to hear he is still playing and infact just signed a new contract because this bloke at times was awesome and never fulfilled his potential. Glenn Hoddle played him ahead if Becks in one major footy event I can remember but he never really shook off his continous injuries, many of them apparently niggling as GH reckons he only played when 100% fit about 5 times . Unfair to be called sicknote maybe but he could have been a superstar but ended up being a good player at best. Paul Gascoigne - I suppose he never fully fulfilled his potential after his injury against Forest but he did play on for years afterwards. I dont think he was the same player post-injury but maybe that was also down to his life away from the game. I still look back at him being the best playmaking midfielder of my years (born in 72!) but he should have ruled the world like a Zidane or Ronaldinho.
Koke Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 Harry Kewell -- The bastard is collecting big money doing fock all for Liverpool. Watch him break a bone or something against Milan on the 23rd. And he'll be out for another season.
Geo V Posted 15 May 2007 Author Posted 15 May 2007 erm lee morris he was the biggest waste of space we had in a while. We should have expected nothing less from a Derby leg end.
Thracian Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 Made me think of Duncan Edwards, Tommy Taylor, Dave Pegg, Roger Byrne, Geoff Bent, Eddie Colman, Mark Jones and Liam Whelan who all died as a result in the Munich Air disaster. Even now I can remember that awful day. I was nine at the time and football crazy. It still makes me feel very emotional to think about it. RIP one and all.
Father Ted Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 Luc Nilis I remember, he was meant to be good, but... after nine minutes in a Villa(scum) shirt decided to commit suicide, in footballing terms
Bryn Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 Lionel Morgan at Wimbledon, touted as the next Ryan Giggs. Used to get him all the time on Champ Manager, was quality.
Father Ted Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 Lionel Morgan at Wimbledon, touted as the next Ryan Giggs. Used to get him all the time on Champ Manager, was quality. What happened to him?
Stevosevic Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 I remember, he was meant to be good, but... after nine minutes in a Villa(scum) shirt decided to commit suicide, in footballing terms nine minutes? he didnt break his leg nine minutes into his debut i'm confused
Father Ted Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 Knee injury. Like a lot of them. When Cruciates are damaged thats what normally happens. I think Ashley Chambers did both about 1 year ago, only just come back.
Father Ted Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 nine minutes? he didnt break his leg nine minutes into his debut i'm confused Sorry!! Although it was quite early into his Villa career.
Jordan Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 When I first saw this thread a few seconds ago, my first though was, "I wonder how long it'll take for someone to mention Lee Morris?" erm lee morris Three posts in.
Dames Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 Peter Canero was just as bad. Didnt he and Morris become best mates from all the time they spent in the treatment room ?
lookwhaticando Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 Canero was costing New York Red Bulls $143k a year - 1400 quid a week. He made a total of nine appearances, got crocked (long-term), and generally looked crap when he played. He's described as a waste of $142,996. Canero's career hasn't been ended by injury, yet... but it's not looking terribly clever.

Another one of our waste of space players and I think he cost us more than Kisnorbo and Maybury combined although that didnt take much either!
