davieG Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 Link Former Dundee goalkeeper Rab Douglas is set to make a comeback for the Dark Blues after Dundee sold him for a record sale of £1.2m to Celtic. The 6'3 goalkeeper spent three years at Dens Park making 134 appearances and if the latest rumor is to be believed, he could end his playing career at Dens with a few more appearances than he already has for Dundee. Rab was a great goalkeeper at Dens and I would welcome him back any day. At Celtic he made 161 appearances in five years but Celtic fans called him 'Butterfingers Douglas' The rumor has been on the go for a few days but it was confirmed that one of the two players to be paraded on Tuesday is from the Championship. The other is David O'Brien who joined from Stirling on a pre-contract agreement. Douglas picked up nineteen caps, after a 6-0 loss to Holland away in Amsterdam in a 2003 he lost the Scotland number one jersey and was even pictured with his eyes shut when one of the goals went in. Douglas picked up one more cap in a 4-0 defeat against Wales under Berti Vogts. Walter Smith recalled him to the squad in 2005 and he played against Italy in a World Cup Qualifier but was taken off injured early on. Dundee made a £1,100,000 profit on Rab after paying Livingston £100,000 for his services in 1997. A good record sale but somehow I think that if he signs we won't get much if anything for him. I would welcome Rab back to Dens, would you?
costadelboy Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 Quality about time we got rid of mr nesbitt too old too fat my 1 year old could do better in goal
Mort Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 Too much to hope that we'll get a fee... but (with the best will in the world, coz he's a "nice guy"), good ridance!
Tommeh Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 At Celtic he made 161 appearances in five years but Celtic fans called him 'Butterfingers Douglas' love it, shame I've really enjoyed living in the same village as him / admiring his new bentley.
Joe. Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 He can go for sure. We need him and his hefty wages off our list
The Reverend Posted 25 May 2007 Posted 25 May 2007 We can dream, its about time that twattin leech was let go from this club.
Tubes Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 He's been linked to Gretna aswell about a week ago anywhere will do
Durnerz Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Thought Celtic used to call him Dracula as he was scared of crosses.
Father Ted Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Thought Celtic used to call him Dracula as he was scared of crosses. Hahahahaha
Simi Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 After the shocker that he had against Lincoln pre-season I've wanted to see him leave. Maybe now is the time.
Asha Posted 26 May 2007 Posted 26 May 2007 Such sad sad news Especially as I bet my mate £100 that he'd be our top scorer next season.....
Ben Posted 29 May 2007 Posted 29 May 2007 Thought Celtic used to call him Dracula as he was scared of crosses. Ha ha ha! How much do you think we'll get for Rab if he goes?
lookwhaticando Posted 29 May 2007 Posted 29 May 2007  Ha ha ha!How much do you think we'll get for Rab if he goes? Nothing. Probably. We'll agree to let him go if he gets another club lined up, just to ship him off the wage bill. Like Sylla & Hamill (if I recall correctly).
James_lcfc Posted 29 May 2007 Posted 29 May 2007 I'd be surprised if we could GIVE him away! I've hated him ever since the 3-3 pre-season friendly with Lincoln last year when he gave us the 'V's' after we were giving him stick for possibly the WORST goalkeeping display I have ever witnissed! Absolute PRAT!
davieG Posted 24 June 2007 Author Posted 24 June 2007 Saints set to win the race to sign Douglas ST MIRREN look set to move for former Scotland goalkeeper Rab Douglas if he can agree a compensation package with Leicester City. The 35-year-old has been told he is not needed at the Walkers Stadium but still has a year of his contract to run so is due a sizeable sum of money before he departs. Newly-promoted Gretna have been credited with an interest in Douglas, who made his name with Dundee before moving to Celtic, but Buddies boss Gus McPherson aims to hijack the deal once the player finally receives the green light to move on. Jay Posted 24 June 2007 Posted 24 June 2007 well as he is on something like £8000 a week and is one of our top earners we probably need about £400 000 to break even on his last year lets just hope we can sort out some sort of deal so that the club doesn't lose to much
