Kent Fox Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 A "straight replacement for Darren Bent"! FFS! Can you possiblty compare the two? (sensibly) One sold for £16.5m and the other is worth £1m. Good Lord! Are we out of this one now then? I know it says other clubs have shown interest, but... Are we?
dandannieldanok Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 Are we out of this one now then? I know it says other clubs have shown interest, but...Are we? Not officially but realistically I would say so. I'm not too disappointed, I would rather get DJ than this guy although I do respect he has scored a lot of goals and does deserve a chance with someone in this division.

Good Lord! Are we out of this one now then? I know it says other clubs have shown interest, but... Are we? Are you mental? Are you suggesting they spend £16.5m on his replacement? Or could attract anyone worth more than about £2-3m?
Kent Fox Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 Are you mental? Are you suggesting they spend £16.5m on his replacement? Or could attract anyone worth more than about £2-3m? Did I suggest anywhere in that they spend £16.5m? NO! But to suggest that Izale could be a direct replacement for Bent is fecking ludicrous. Bent scored something like 37 in79 for Charlton. I seriously doubt Mcleod could hit that. So No. I am not mental!

He doesn't need to score x many goals in x many games to directly replace him, he just needs to be a similar sort of player, which he is, quick and fairly strong with a decent goalscoring record.

Quote from Sky: The 22-year-old hit-man, who has netted 54 goals in 105 starts for The Dons, is being lined up as a straight replacement for Darren Bent, who recently joined Spurs in a £16.5million deal. I interpret that as a straight replacement. Not someone similar. And his decent goalscoring record is, as discussed at length elsewhere, not proven at a higher level. And i have re-evaluated my mental state and partially agree that I am indeed slightly mental

And i have re-evaluated my mental state and partially agree that I am indeed slightly mental I've got nothing better to do so I'm going to carry on arguing about this. A straight replacement is just one out, one in, he doesn't need to be a player of exactly the same quality to be a straight replacement. Charlton sold a striker, now they need a striker. Of course you could argue the media will interpret McLeod as the replacement for Bent rather than Varney, Iwelumo or Todorov because... well, he's black isn't he?

RedOnRed Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 McLeod's a good player but is quite capable of spending 87 minutes of a game not doing anything after he's got a goal or two in the remainder of the time. He may be pig lazy but he did win us quite a few games like that though. The bad part of his game is when he spends 90 minutes of a game not doing anything apart from picking up his usual yellow or red.

OK, so that was going to be my next point, but not because he's black. I would see Todorov more as a "straight replacement" than Mcleod, but see where you're coming from. But just to be difficult, and for arguments sake, if Arsene Wenger left Arsenal, would the club then look for a replacement, straight replacement, direct replacement or a different type of replacement altogether? I would think they would want a straight replacement manager of the same ilk, at least, as Arsene.
The People's Hero Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 Imagine actually having a pet pig and taking it to the football! hahahaha!
Kent Fox Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 So we aren't in this anymore? Izale We're not mentioned here..
Blue Bob Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 A "straight replacement for Darren Bent"!FFS! Can you possiblty compare the two? (sensibly) One sold for £16.5m and the other is worth £1m. Good Lord! Are we out of this one now then? I know it says other clubs have shown interest, but... Are we? I believe that Charlton have got financial problems since their relegation. I heard Pardew say that the majority of the £16M will be going on players wages to make up for the loss of Sky revenue. So I guess they are bargin basement shopping like the rest of us.
RedOnRed Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 If Charlton come in at £1.5 million for him i'm sure a deal will be on the cards. As far as i'm aware financially we don't need to sell him, so the fee should be pure spending money which should go a long way...minus the 30% cut owed to derby of course.

With all those Premiership clubs linked to him I`d be surprised if you dont get £3m BTW, what are your initil thoughts on Ince??
Mickey O'Neil Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 BTW, what are your initil thoughts on Ince?? He's a knob-sack & I'm glad we didn't get him!* *Oh...you wasn't't asking me. Oh well.
RedOnRed Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 With all those Premiership clubs linked to him I`d be surprised if you dont get £3m BTW, what are your initil thoughts on Ince?? Hard to say what he's like yet really. We had our first game at the new stadium last night, beating an annonymous Chelsea XI 4-3. The striking differences between him and his predecessor appear to be his complete lack of updates and communication on our web site. He hasn't done one yet! If there is any comms it oddly seems to be his assistant manager doing it. There has also been a lot less transfer activity compared to Allen this time last year. Only a couple of signings so far, unlike Allen's half a team in and out approach.
Daggers Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 Oh dear - looks like a lot of MKD fans will have to go back to supporting the teams they supported before a club suddenly appeared in their town then. Or there's always The Galaxy of Beckham?

How do you so gleefully and smugly reach that conclusion then? We don't all support teams the other end of the country. I've always loved my football and didn't support a team prior to the Dons arrival simply because there wasn't a local team to support.
