Manwell Pablo Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 What'd be the point of appointing a renowned Director of Football and putting a structured scouting system in place if we weren't going to sign a couple of players nobody has heard of?I retain my faith in Milan signing the two quality midfielders we desperately need but one of them may be Sergio Hellings - there are plenty of excellent players I haven't even heard of and I trust people with the football pedigree of Milan, Don McKay, Lil Fuccillo and even Martin Allen to make better judgments than the Football Manager-playing kids and reactionary grumpy old bastards on this forum. Players like Nielsen, Sappleton and Hellings are exactly the sort of players we should have expected to be signing as opposed to the Rob Kelly approach to free transfers of taking a quick look at the League Two Team of the Year and seeing which of them was out of contract. On Hellings specifically, I find it funny that people are moaning about him having played Dutch Second Division football last year when MK Dons in the fourth tier of English football are asking £2million for a player we are being linked with. Indeedy mundo. I especially agree with this part, I was about to post that there have been horrific suggestions for potential signings on this board. I said months ago a lot of you are in for a shock come the summer and here it is. What I find mildly amusing is that we've signed four players, which is more than every single Premiership team bar Bolton (our sheep shagging friends are yet to sign a single player as well) I don’t think the transfer window even opens until July 1st, and most of you lot are bemoaning our lack of activity in the transfer market! Unbelievable. I can sort of see where Geo is getting his point from but I've already had this discussion with him. He thinks we should be buying players from clubs like Red Star Belgrade, Lokomotive Moscow etc. Our fan base needs to understand that until we're in the prem again most European established teams are going to be infinitely more attractive than us.

We have to accept that whoever we sign is going to be a bit of a gamble, even the likes of Lee Hendrie who would come with a bit of baggage attached to him and could be classed as an underachiever, Billy Sharp and Izale McLeod who are unproven at this level. We just have to trust the people in control of this football club who have far more knowledge of football players than me or yourself, to make the right decisions. What point are you trying to make ? I just don't want players like Andy Johnson players that we will only get a season or half a season out of at best if were going to sign older players we should at least be aiming to get 2 full seasons out of them unless they get injured or suspended or players like Carl Cort who spend most of the time injured. Really its not a hard criteria to match is it unless you really think that we should be signing a load of Alcoholics, Druggies and Gamblers ? And yes we are a better or at least equal proposition to places like Burnley, Preston, Wolves and Norwich but we continue to let quality players go to them without putting up much of a fight. We might not have had money up until recently but its still happening. I'm not the most knowledgable on all this and i'm not an FM bumming kid but its not hard to see that we are still losing out to clubs which really we should be beating and still settling for second best.

Hopefully you might see bit part roles for Max Gradel (right winger) Andy King (centre mid) and maybe Billy McKay (Striker) as well as Joe Mattock hopefully continuing to be in and around the first team. Potter Andy King is a really good player, he just didn't warrant a first team place last year IMO and I thought it would be good for him to finish the year with the rest of the Academy lads. He'll make a living playing football I gurantee that.

David Villa Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 I bloody hope they are because when the fans see young lads coming on off the bench IMO it gets the fans going more because i remember when we played Fulham home and away whenever Levi Porter touched the ball the fans stood up and urged him on. So i think youngsters have a huge effect on city.

And how much do you actually know about Scott Sinclair apart from the fact he scored one good goal for Plymouth in the FA cup. Better still what do you know about our youngsters? And do you understand how difficult it would be to get the two above players?
