Kent Fox Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Doesn't mean that they are all the best players out there. True - but it does mean that they collectively make a good team
Manwell Pablo Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 7 of them got proffesional contracts so they must have something going for them.
Babylon Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 True - but it does mean that they collectively make a good team They aren't all going to start playing for the first team in one go are they. The best individuals will, and there are better individuals out there than those currently in our youth team.
Babylon Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 7 of them got proffesional contracts so they must have something going for them. Obviously that goes without saying. But just because they won the youth cup doesn't mean we should stop looking for other better players.
Kent Fox Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 But until we're as good as Manyoo or Chelski etc, isn't that always gonna be?? In the past we have often brought thru good home grown talent. I'm hoping MA will rekindle that tradition.
Manwell Pablo Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 They aren't all going to start playing for the first team in one go are they. The best individuals will, and there are better individuals out there than those currently in our youth team. True but can we afford them. I'm not saying they're aren't better players out there clearly there are, I just don't see the point in signing some 17 year old unknown from Arsenal when we have some excellent talent in our own youth system.
Lester LXXIV Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Last time I checked Niklas Bentdner and Scott Sinclair weren't under the age of 18.And how much do you actually know about Scott Sinclair apart from the fact he scored one good goal for Plymouth in the FA cup. Better still what do you know about our youngsters? And do you understand how difficult it would be to get the two above players? Agreed, I went to see Argyle as I have family in Plymuff, Sinclair spent alot of the time on the bench towards the end of the season. I think he was a bit like Ryan Smith, potential but far from the complete player that some people say he is!
David Villa Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 yea i agree but when we do buy someone its usually a has been.
The People's Hero Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Yeah - you'd expect us to be signing the creme-de-la-creme. I can't believe this. We had someone saying we shouldn't sign Eastwood because he played for a team who got relegated. What do they expect? Us to sign premiership teams' top players? Not going to happen. Get a grip guys. Get a fu cking Tord Grip.
potter3 Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Hopefully you might see bit part roles for Max Gradel (right winger) Andy King (centre mid) and maybe Billy McKay (Striker) as well as Joe Mattock hopefully continuing to be in and around the first team.Potter Andy King is a really good player, he just didn't warrant a first team place last year IMO and I thought it would be good for him to finish the year with the rest of the Academy lads. He'll make a living playing football I gurantee that. I've never seen him play, I don't know how good he is, I was joking. nobody is saying we want prem talent. I want it, but we won't get it
David Villa Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 I want prem talent as well but we arent going to get it i feel because unless its 30+ rejects we wont get anybody.
Daggers Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 I want it, but we won't get it I only tend to get it if I beg or get her very drunk
The People's Hero Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 nobody is saying we want prem talent. You've completely missed my point. We'll be signing the better players from divisions below or players surplus to requirements from a level above. A lot of people on here were saying we shouldn't sign the likes of Healy (when he was available) or Eastwood because they had both played for relegated clubs. Get a grip.

Better still what do you know about our youngsters? And do you understand how difficult it would be to get the two above players? Sorry Niklas Bentdner is 19 and Scott Sinclair is 18. And how many of are "under 18's" were actually 18 we had a few players who were over 20 if they are as good as you make out why haven't more of them broke into the first team. You then go onto say you don't want players coming in on loan from other clubs but look at the way Birmingham gopt promoted last season players like Muamba,Bentdner and Larsson did a great job would any of are youngsters done aswell???
Lord Nibblington Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Shouldn't that be "FRANCKIE SAYS RELAX" Oh Yes! Yes oh Yes oh Yay!
Leonisco Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Sorry Niklas Bentdner is 19 and Scott Sinclair is 18.And how many of are "under 18's" were actually 18 we had a few players who were over 20 if they are as good as you make out why haven't more of them broke into the first team. True, but Birmingham's academy side isn't great, whereas ours won the League last year.

Err maybe do you know otherwise??? and you de relise Louis Dodds and Alan Sheehan etc don't actually play in our academy. All our players were 18 or younger at the start of the Academy campaign they're the rules. Don't get me wrong I'd be up for signing any of those three players, as well as Lupoli they were all tipped to have extremly bright futures. They're a bit of a different propersition than "Some youth team player from Arsenal or Chelsea" and also much harder to sign, this is why the abover players ended up at one of the biggest clubs in our league. A few of our young lads deserve a chance, they've been giving proffesional contracts and I would like to see what they've got at some point, not have them outed by some kid from Arsenal who will play for us for six months then leave.
Manwell Pablo Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Thracians not going to believe what he's reading when he sees this.
The People's Hero Posted 18 June 2007 Posted 18 June 2007 Thracians not going to believe what he's reading when he sees this. I wish I could say I disagree with the points you make, mate. But I don't. Thracian should observe and see what happens when people post about the subject in an informed manner without all the exaggeration, hyperbole, lies and ridiculous imagery.

I thought we had a couple of players who were above 18, as that was the reason some people gave for us winning the title? That were we older, bigger and stonger
