Brainy Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 Did anybody else see the farce with the net at half time?
Master Fox Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 I’m routing for Venezuela. I just liked the fact they hadn’t won a game in the competition for 40 years until their 2-0 win over Peru the other day. Great game.
Geo V Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 I saw Brazil last night who were pants with the exception of Robinho who was awesome. Ive watched a bit of the comp in Cyprus but it seems that far too many teams cant be bothered with the competition. Brazil have a shell of a side and even the Yanks have a second team out. Loads of players have dropped out "fatigued" after playing in the gold Cup ahead of this compettion which seems weird to me?! I just wish that we had some scouts out there becuase players are avilable for pennies. Even a couple of Cypriot sides that have record transfer fees of about 100k have bought a few Venezuelans and the odd Peruvian! Surely some bargains to be had MM and MA??!!

Even a couple of Cypriot sides that have record transfer fees of about 100k have bought a few Venezuelans and the odd Peruvian! There's a reason Venezuelans are (in the main) cheap and playing in Cyprus.
Geo V Posted 2 July 2007 Posted 2 July 2007 There's a reason Venezuelans are (in the main) cheap and playing in Cyprus. I think there is a fear that South Americans dont like our weather and maybe culture so dont adapt. That can be said for that Delgado bloke who Southampton bought for about £3m and he hardly played for them but continues to look good in comps like the World Cup. I still think that there is a huge amount of talented footballers that will end up in hotter central European counries who could do a decent jobfor us. The two that AEK Larnaca are buying for a pittance look like really good footballers from the games I saw.
Daggers Posted 2 July 2007 Author Posted 2 July 2007 South America isn't all hot. The Andean spine is windswept, rain-soaked and oxygen starved in places. The coastal regions around the Equator have incredible humidity while most of the elevated Equatorial regions are quite temperate. Southern Brazil and Argentina have miserable weather like Britain while Southern Argentina/Chile is downright shit. I do wish people could get rid of this image of all South American players kicking balls barefoot on tropical beaches.
Daggers Posted 3 July 2007 Author Posted 3 July 2007 I can see why people find the Copa dull - it's the lack of goals that gets me
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 July 2007 Posted 5 July 2007 I can see why people find the Copa dull - it's the lack of goals that gets me Hmm on the past 2 days evidence Daggers you may be right! The tournament has got a bit cagey in the past two days.
hairy Posted 5 July 2007 Posted 5 July 2007 I do wish people could get rid of this image of all South American players bare on tropical beaches.[/b] I would but I like it
Joe. Posted 9 July 2007 Posted 9 July 2007 Paraguayan keeper sent off in 2nd min Causing a 6-0 defeat...
Manwell Pablo Posted 9 July 2007 Posted 9 July 2007 Causing a 6-0 defeat... I can't believe Blanco scored, what a legend.
Manwell Pablo Posted 13 July 2007 Posted 13 July 2007 Well. Brazil Argentina final. Have to say I didn't say that coming.
Simi Posted 13 July 2007 Posted 13 July 2007 Well.Brazil Argentina final. Have to say I didn't say that coming. Argentina will take it I think. Quality all throughout the team now. With Brazil resting Ronaldinho and Kaka, I don't see a way they can win this.

Yet they always seem to win it.

Yeah like Manwell says in the 2004 final there was no Kaka, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Gilberto, Dida, Lucio, Juninho and basically anybody else who normally commands a first team place.
Simi Posted 13 July 2007 Posted 13 July 2007 .I refer you to the Brazil team that won it in 2004. They always rest players in La Copa America. Yet they always seem to win it. Oh ok fair enough. I haven't seen much of them playing this year so far, although I saw a bit of Argwentina and they did look a good side.
sdb Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 anybody know if/where the final can be watched online tonight? should be a screamer

Yup - Despite all the stats racking up against them in this tourno my money, if I was dumb enough to give money to a bookie, would go on the team in yellow and green. Form goes out the window - this is the mother of Classico's. A Brasilian lad I taught stated that his aim was to become President of his country and that when he did he would build a big wall around Argentina and fill it with water. Every other Brasilian in the class stood up and cheered. You think that England like to beat the Argies? That's nothing on the Brasilians!

Head Honcho Posted 15 July 2007 Posted 15 July 2007 anybody know if/where the final can be watched online tonight? should be a screamer I reckon it will be too. Could be one of the classics, both teams scoring well, well now at least! Argentina to just nick it 3-2 for me. ..............may even stick a fiver on it!
