Pete_foxes Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 I had hoped for a miracle and that we would be paying a seven figure sum or two on certain players so in that sense I ama little dissapointed but you only have to look at the players that we have bought in to know that the squad has improved significantly.N`Gotty was offered a new deal by Brum and they were promoted to the Premier, Nielsen was linked to bigger clubs than us but we managed to get him here, Chambers turned down an improved contract from Watford despite being reegated out of the premiership and quite a few other clubs wanted him, Cort turned down other championship clubs and a premier league club to come to us, Hellings has been transferred for £1.5m already in his career and is just 22, Sappleton had trials at Liverpool and Middlesboro but was persuaded to come to us, Kishishev was Leeds bets player last season and is held in high regard and still a current imternational and the lad today is an 18yo who has already impressed in the lower leagues. Big names, maybe not but a big name doesnt guarantee big success. Lets see who else we add to the squad as we are still meant to be getting 4 or 5 more players. Well said. Also on Wikipedia Hellings apparently had been linked with Seville Weider Bremen, & I think Fulham & Wigan.
Daggers Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 It's all getting a bit tetchy, isn't it? Has it? I'm not eating cream buns if they've gone tetchy
Babylon Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Anyone else think that the club should have got in a load of diamond-encrusted Battenburg?Mandaric seems content to buy and eat imitation cream buns - which all means that there will be less room on the plate for fresh cream donuts. I bought a Battenburg today... wasn't encrusted with diamonds though. Fecking cheap skate Mandaric... sign a £2m player now or i'll cry.
Blue Bob Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 well its wasn't really to have a moan ! i think most Leicester fans might have expected a few more household names to have come to the squad? some of the players are an unknown quantity and my might turn out to be great for us but i think there are better players out there that we could have got probably on less money I disagree, if they are a household name then they are likely to cost more money. We have used the experience of the MM, DM & MA to get players who are supposed to have the skill and the hunger to perform. Remember we released, transfer listed or sent back loan players - in total 15 players. We dont have the money to buy that volume of players if not more as I dont think we had that big a squad. They are building a squad carefully - sure we have missed a few targets but who doesnt. Still some way to go yet - you might just get some names. On the other hand we might not get any names but because of the way they play for us they become a name just like Lennon, Izzett, savage managed to do.
Geo V Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 We can't expect to turn into play off contenders over night. It just doesen't work that way. We are not an attractive club to Sharp, Eastwood, Javis, Varney etc.. hence they went/going to clubs who were in the playoffs last time out. We have to earn the right to sign players of that calibure. Totally disagree. These lads would have been well aware of us as a Premiership club that has some great players at times in the last decade. They`ll also be aware of a newish stadium, big fan base and central location and the fact that we have Milan Mandaric as our owner who has had major success with Pompey. Wolves hae done fook all in years in the top league and Sheff Utd are hardly a more attractive club. They arent even the best in there city for gods sake!!!! I think the fact is we havent the money to risk on one signing, its as simple as that. MM will pay big wages to tempt people here but he doesnt like spending big transfer fees on one or two players unless we are in a strong position. If a miracle happens and we are in the play-off possies come January I can see him giving MA some cash to spend again whilst our rivals may not have that option.
Babylon Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 but i think there are better players out there that we could have got probably on less money Name them? And put that crack pipe down.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Has it?I'm not eating cream buns if they've gone tetchy The buns have gone limp and soggy. Too much artificial cream. The discussion has gone tetchy. We all seem quite divided at the moment about our glorious club and its newcomers. Good 'uns, bad 'uns? Who knows. Might have to wait until they actually play a macth to find out. I don't think there has been a single signing where everyone has said "yes, please!". Must admit though, I'm not that chuffed so far.
Daggers Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 I don't think there has been a single signing where everyone has said "yes, please!". Yea. It's a shame Henry slipped through the net before we could tie him down.

Also I still feel Sheff Utd would still be more attractive than us. Anyway our squad is an improvment on last year thats for sure. Under Kelly & his monkeys the club lacked a sence of direction & money , MM MA, & DM have given us that back.
l444ry Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Wish the season would start or something happen. The drivel on here is getting worse.

Under Kelly & his monkeys the club lacked a sence of direction & money , MM MA, & DM have given us that back. That's exactly the type of attitude we need to change if we're going to get anywhere. We are just as big as all of those clubs, if not bigger - fair enough, recently they've been more successful than us, so I can understand why a player may think that, but we need to start showing a bit more ambition.
Daggers Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Wish the season would start or something happen. The drivel on here is getting worse. The buns have gone tetchy and now the drivel is as good as off...is there nothing left?

We are just as big as all of those clubs, if not bigger - fair enough, recently they've been more successful than us, so I can understand why a player may think that, but we need to start showing a bit more ambition. Thats what I was trying to suggest that now we are showing more ambition with MM & MA. MM's statement about "premiership in three years or failure" is a clear indicator of his ambition. Simply we can't go from Josh low to Ronaldo in one step. For now we should sit back and relax, shouldn't say our signings are poor when we have no idea what half of them are capable of doing. I've lost count of similar topics on here!
Leonisco Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 totally agree ! We're Leicester City for gods sake !! up the foxes !! Don't mistake that for me agreeing with your original post. OK, the signings haven't been amazing, but they're solid and I wouldn't say I'm unhappy with them at all.
Steven Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 disagree, Cort will be good provided he does not get an injury, Chambers solid player/does a job, Hayes is highly rated by MK dons & Reading fans, Sappleton, Hellings we have no clue how they will turn out, however Sappleton comes with high regards from QPR who say he just has an attitude problem but is a good player, Kishishev brings experience, n'gotty lacks pace but still a solid enough player at this level. Jimmy comes here with Aab fans saying hes a great keeper & an amazing shot stopoer. We do still need 4/5 more players to fill in the gaps. Another centre back, Centre mid is what we need atleast, both high profile. Allegedly pulled up with a back injury today.
Floating Fox Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Christ what are you expecting Torres & tevez? Fcks sake
Pete_foxes Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Allegedly pulled up with a back injury today. yeah  might not be too serious, but does show how injury prone he is.
Daggers Posted 4 July 2007 Posted 4 July 2007 Allegedly pulled up with a back injury today. N'Gotty had to go for a lie down too - apparently his senile dementia is kicking in. We're all going to hell in a handcart.
