Thracian Posted 5 July 2007 Share Posted 5 July 2007 http://www.lcfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Lates...0.html Bit of an exaggeration about Chambers playing a huge part in the Under 18's success last season. He played a small part in the final but was injured for most of the season. Hopefully he will be fit and well this season and back to his speedy and predatory best. Kent Fox Posted 5 July 2007 Share Posted 5 July 2007 I hope the final squad includes them both. It can only be good for them, and us. Good luck, lads.

Joe. Posted 5 July 2007 Share Posted 5 July 2007 Under-17s allowed to take Mattock? Why wouldn't they be allowed to?
lookwhaticando Posted 5 July 2007 Share Posted 5 July 2007 Why wouldn't they be allowed to? I suspect it's the fact that he turned 17 not too long ago that has caused some confusion.
Jimmy Posted 5 July 2007 Share Posted 5 July 2007 yes it's a FIFA tournament so ubject to the usual rules that govern the senior game, he could opt out though if he were going to be 1st choice
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 July 2007 Share Posted 5 July 2007 I decided to have a dig around after finding out we had 23 year olds playing in the U21 Championships in Holland. Turns out as long as your under 21 at the start of qualifying your allowed to play the tournament till it's conclusion. Same rules apply here I reckon. MBK Posted 5 July 2007 Share Posted 5 July 2007 I suspect it's the fact that he turned 17 not too long ago that has caused some confusion. Actually made the mistake of thinking he was 18 recently. Hope with MM's spending ability, we can actually nurse these kids to become good seniors and not become lost in the process.
Candidcamera Posted 8 July 2007 Share Posted 8 July 2007 Chambers could have benefitted from having the lay off. Unlike Weso he had not been noticed in a high profile way by the fans. He looked to be a real talent and this selection supports that.
Nationwider Posted 8 July 2007 Share Posted 8 July 2007 I can't see the benefit in them playing in such a nonsense tournament. In fact, I can't see how anyone benefits from an U-17 World Cup. Pointless.

It is so people like us on Football Forums can say that player X was in a FIFA one to watch list after their performances in said World Cup. It's good big match experience. But I'd guess that if Mattock had a choice between playing in front of 30,000 at the Walkers or in front of a few hundred people for the U 17s I'd guess he'd choose the former? Jonbluefox9 Posted 8 July 2007 Share Posted 8 July 2007 This is promising although Chambers and Mattock will probably be included in England squads up to under 19 as long as they are fit. If they manage to make it into an under 21 squad in the future then we will have a couple of gems on our hands.
